Chronomaly Vimana

Chronomaly Vimana – #DAMA-EN044

2 Level 5 monsters – Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can target 1 face-up monster on the field and 1 Xyz Monster or “Chronomaly” monster in your GY; that monster on the field gains half the ATK of that monster in the GY (until the end of this turn), then attach that monster from the GY to this card as material. Once per turn, when your opponent activates a monster effect (Quick Effect): You can detach 2 materials from this card; negate the activation.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Chronomaly Vimana is one of the newest Chronomaly cards for the archetype and wraps up our week.

Generic materials like Machu Mech yesterday, this resembles an armored version of that card in my opinion. Raises ATK of a monster by half of an Xyz or Chronomaly monster in your grave for the turn and then gets that grave monster attached to itself, netting you another detachable material. Quick Effect makes this something you can use in the Damage Step either turn, elevating its usefulness. Chronomaly finally get negation power, but it costs 2 materials, only negates monster effects, and only negates. This is a -1 for you: negation is a plus, detached material evens things out, but the monster negated lives, making it a negative. 2300ATK is weak for a Rank 5, and while you can raise this card’s ATK, you’d like to see the negation power be better. This is a monster to bring out once you get your graveyard filled with a few monsters. You can have four monsters attached on this easily, but you’d better hope the negate but not destroy effect pays off.

The negation effect has to be used wisely. The ATK boost not needing another Chronomaly on the field to help it makes this Rank 5 the optimal choice for the archetype. Multiple negations are possible, but without the destruction to follow it feels unfinished. Should’ve been a negation for any card effect if they weren’t going to include destruction/banish. Or they could’ve added an ATK boost for the turn or half the targeted monster’s ATK.

Chronomaly Week ends off with the new Rank 5 for the archetype that does more than a gimmick OTK: Chronomaly Vimana.

Vimana is a Rank 5 LIGHT Machine Xyz with 2300 ATK and 2600 DEF. An improvement in stats, mainly for DEF, and the LIGHT/Machine combo we like. Once again, generic Rank 5 that just needs any 2 Level 5s. You get a once per turn Quick Effect to target a face-up monster on the field and any Xyz Monster or Chronomaly monster in your graveyard to buff the targeted monster’s ATK by half the ATK of the monster selected in grave, then you can attach said monster to this card as material. Nice way to buff your monsters while also regenerating materials for this card. You could buff an opponent’s monster if you want to try and trigger Machu Mech, but you rather be doing that by weakening an opponent’s monster rather than buffing it, but it could potentially lead to you running over an even bigger monster instead. Second effect is another Quick Effect with a soft once per turn when an opponent activates a monster effect, letting you detach 2 materials from this card to negate the activation. Free negation on a generic Rank 5 is great, I can understand 2 materials cause they want this to be more costly for anything not Chronomaly related considering those Decks would be limited to regenerating materials by targeting used up Xyz Monsters. It’s better in a dedicated Chronomaly strategy since you’ll be full of cards to put under this as material to keep negating monster effects. No hard once per turns on something like this is outstanding as well. The card overall helps Chronomaly put something on field that’s better to have on the opponent’s turn besides Chateau Huyuk. You play this in Chronomaly and potentially any Deck that can make Rank 5s as well just to get a free negate at the very least.

Chronomaly Vimana close the week (again, as one may have guessed, gold stars for the readers paying attention) also Rank 5, still Light/Machine, who also needs two generic Level 5s for its XYZ Summon.  2300/2600 atk/def is fine enough I suppose.  A Quick Effect lets you (once per Turn) Target a face-up Monster to have it’s attacked increased by half of a Theme or XYZ Monster in your Graveyard.  This, of course, made so SO much better by being Quick, but I don’t like that said Effect only lasts for the Turn.  But it’s a nice pump up, even temporarily, and certainly helpful.  Honestly, I think the better part is the fact that it transfers the Monster you chose as new Material, all while remembering that this guy doesn’t have to detach Material to do anything with its first Effect.  I’m going to call that a win.  And it becomes a bigger win, seeing that you have to discard TWO Material (although this Effect is also Quick) to negate the Effect of an opponent’s Effect Monster.  It’s pricier than it needs to be, but if you’re cycling Material back to this card, it becomes less painful.  This Effect, also, is once per Turn.  Fun card, easier to use than yesterday, and does more, faster…not much to dislike here.

Art:  Vimana are mythological floating/flying castles, palaces, chariots (etc)  and given this exact pic is on google, I’d say they did well.  This is very pretty, almost in an eerie way.  5/5
