Name: Venomoth

Pokemon #: 49
Species: Poisonmoth
Level: 28
Power: "Shift"
Once during your turn (before your attack), you may change
the type of Venomoth to the type of any other Pokemon in
play other than Colorless. This power can’t be used if
Venomoth is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed.
Attack: [GG] Venom Powder (10)
Flip a coin. If heads, the Defending Pokemon is now
Confused and Poisoned.

History: You think this pal’s Butterfree? No sirree. Nasty Bug/Poison Type Creature. Like Butterfree, it has limited Psychic Powers. Koga and his apprentice both used Venonats in the Fuschia City Gym. Koga evolved Venonat in the middle of the battle.

Strategy:

Venonat Weak. Venonat Weak to Magmar L31. Venonat Weak to Charmander. Venonat Weak.

That’s about all I have to say about it, because it _is_ weak. 40 HP doesn’t guarantee much survival, and all it can deal is 10. At least it can heal some of it, though, so it can’t be too bad.

Venomoth is a lot of fun. Shifting the damage Type produced by Venomoth to the Defending Pokemon’s Weakness is fun. Even though the attack only does 10 damage, if the flip is heads, semi-lock there :-) Poison combined with Confusion is a nasty predicament for any Pokemon.

Strengths:

  • Venomoth can Poison and Confuse, which means that Pokemon gets 10 damage per turn and has a harder time retreating!
  • Against the right type of Pokemon, Venomoth can deal 20 damage a turn guaranteed Weaknesses: Fire guarantees Venonat to be a smoking crater
  • It’s hard to guarantee the Weakness of your opponent for Venomoth Combos:

Venonat + Pluspower: Remove 2 Damage Counters!

Venomoth + opponent’s Psychic Pokemon: Guaranteed 20 damage! And semi-guaranteed Poison/Confuse Lock!

Ratings:6.5/6.8 - Not a Tourney Level Card IMHO (too weak attacks) but fun!
