Hello Pojo Fans,

On the week of a complete farce of a “boxing exhibition between Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou, it’s fitting that we’re reviewing Battlin’ Boxers.

All Battlin’ Boxers are FIRE and Warrior Types, so now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, lets look at Battlin’ Boxer Promoter. Promoter Special Summoning himself from the hand when your opponent has a monster is almost as easy as it gets. Combine that ease with the ability to pop Promoter to Special Summon two more Battlin’ Boxer monsters from the Deck (with different names) and this monster makes it easy to go into Extra Deck plays for the archetype, on top of getting you to other effects like Uppercut getting you another search from the Deck.

The archetype is made up of mostly Level 4’s, but there are some Level 3’s and 2’s, and with only one Rank 3, leveling changing is needed to help those monsters along, as well as get your Level 4’s up to Level 5 for the Rank 5 Xyz (though you need 4 of them for your Rank 5 in the archetype). Banishing Promoter to raise or lower by 1 all your Battlin’ Boxers on the field is a great way to quickly go into your Rank 3 or Rank 5, all in the same turn, all off Promoter.

Promoter is the Rescue Cat/Rabbit of the Battlin’ Box archetype. A one-card Extra Deck setup in both of his effects, there is no reason you shouldn’t be playing this in 3’s if you play the archetype, and this should be the monster you search when going second with RoTA.

Art-2/5- Never seen a promoter look like one of the fighters, unless they are promoting their own brand/PPV event.

We got the last archetype from the Soulburning Volcano set as we get some modern Battlin’ Boxer support starting with a quick way to help make an Xyz: Battlin’ Boxer Promoter.

Promoter is a Level 4 FIRE Warrior with 1700 ATK and 800 DEF. A decent ATK stat to start, a good combination with FIRE/Warrior as well. Promoter can be Special Summoned from the hand if your opponent controls a monster, making it an easy extender. You can also tribute this card to summon 2 Battlin’ Boxers with different names from the Deck, besides Promoter, which is a super fast Xyz there. Finally, you can banish this card from the graveyard to increase or decrease the Levels of all Battlin’ Boxer monsters you currently control by 1, which helps the archetype make their lone Rank 3 Xyz or if you want to summon the Number C monsters of the archetype without a Rank-Up-Magic, you can increase the Levels to go into a Rank 5. You can only use each effect once per turn and you cannot Special Summon any monsters the turn you use any of this card’s effects, besides Battlin’ Boxers. The first restriction is standard, the second can be harsh since Battlin’ Boxers don’t have the strongest line-up of monsters. Still, it’s a pretty good way in the archetype to make an actual play, so 3 of it feels right to make your Xyzs as fast as possible.

Finishing our Soulburning Volcano coverage is none other than Alito’s Battlin’ Boxer support, starting with Battlin’ Boxer Promoter, a level 4 FIRE Warrior monster much like the rest of its kin. In addition to Reinforcement of the Army like always, it has synergy with the Infernoble Knight series and the Igknight archetype, which isn’t too applicable for Promoter in particular but it’ll come up in a later card. Promoter has a respectable 1700 attack and a much less respectable 800 defense, so don’t count on it doing much battlin’.

Promoter has three hard once per turn effects that both lock you into Special Summoning Battlin’ Boxer monsters the entire turn, so there’s no real point in using it outside of Battlin’ Boxer. Promoter’s first effect lets you Special Summon it from your hand if your opponent controls a monster. I’m not a fan of monsters that rely on your opponent to Special Summon themselves and aren’t going-second tools like Dinowrestler Pankratops, but at least it’s faithful to the Battlin’ Boxer mold. On the bright side, this gives it amusing synergy with the amusing KenGen combo, which we’ll probably cover in our Age of Overlord coverage! Promoter’s second effect is considerably more useful going first, tributing itself to Special Summon any two Battlin’ Boxers from your deck with different names except itself. The best targets, by far, are Battlin’ Boxer Uppercutter and Battlin’ Boxer Chief Second for their search and extender effects respectively, which is a little sad since the other Battlin’ Boxers either only have Normal Summon effects or accomplish nothing of value. You can instantly go into tomorrow’s card as the best Rank 4, or you can use Promoter’s third effect, letting you banish it from the Graveyard to either increase or decrease the levels of all of your Battlin’ Boxer monsters by one. This is the most practical way to summon both their new boss and Battlin’ Boxer Cheat Commissioner if you wanted to summon that guy, so you should probably run as many copies of Promoter as possible– both ROTA, and even Infernoble Arms Durendal help a lot with accessing it. While it’s an amazing starter, I can’t say the same for Battlin’ Boxer as a whole…
