Trigun Episode 2: Truth of Mistake

The episode opens with a man running in a sandy field. Someone in a suit is shooting at him. The running man is hit and starts to run away. The guy in the suit claims something has to be done........

Meryl and Milly come upon another town. They are out of water and very thirsty. Unfortunately, this town is empty. A ghost town. They spot a well, but discover there is no water in it. So they are in a dried up ghost town. Two people walk past them and claim that first the town dried up and then the legendary outlaw Vash the Stampede showed up! He is apparently a hired gun at Mr. Schezar's mansion. Meryl and Milly decide to pay him a visit.

Meryl knocks on the door and announces that she is with the Bernadeli Insurance Society and looking for Vash the Stampede. Low and behold, the man to answer the door is the same blond hair, red trench coat wearing guy they had met in episode 1. (Vash, but they don't know it.) Vash gladly accepts the donuts Meryl has as she questions him as to why he is there. A short man walks up to the door and asks Vash if these ladies are friends of his. Meryl and Milly are shocked when the man addresses him as Vash. The shorter guy invites them in to discuss the situation.

The shorter man introduces himself as Cliff Schezar. He sells water to the people in the town. Lately people had been trying to kill him, so he needed a bodyguard. He put out a want add stating he needed someone tough like Vash the Stampede. To his surprise, the real Vash showed up and offered his services. Cliff tells them that Vash is here no only to protect his safety, but also a young lady that is staying with him. Her name is Marianne Aura Cayzen. Cliff wants to protect her at all costs. As Vash poses and brags of his marksmen skills, Meryl falls over on the floor in disgust.

Meryl pulls Cliff aside and tells him he is being deceived. This man cannot be Vash the Stampede. Cliff reveals to her that he is doing the deceiving. The idea that Vash the Stampede was the bodyguard would scare off any potential assassins. So when this blond haired guy showed up he spread that rumor that he was Vash the Stampede. This is a terrible inconvenience to Meryl. Cliff states that he didn't want to let things go this far, but the man after him had blond hair and a silver gun. He was a deadly marksmen. Meryl now thinks the guy after Cliff must be the real Vash, so she offers her and Milly's services as bodyguards. Free of charge of course.

Meryl and Milly end up cooking dinner. (Some bodyguards....) Vash peeks in to see if its ready, and quickly vacates the area when Meryl snaps at him. He walks up stairs to Marianne's room and hears the sound of running water. He decides to take a peak the sneaky way. He goes up to the roof and ties a rope around his waste. Vash then jumps over the side and crawls into position outside Marianne's window. He finds the room to be empty with the tub filling with water. Milly happens to pop into the room to tell Marianne that supper is ready. She finds Vash, but he claims to be searching for evil spooks.....

As Meryl is bringing supper to the table she finds Marianne cautiously coming out of Cliff's study. At the dinner table, Vash notes that Cliff's how is very fancy, and that water must be very profitable. Cliff informs them that his father had purchased land with a water surply and the surrounding area had a drought the last few years. Marianne claims that he is charging money for a natural resource, but Cliff says he is protecting the water surply because it won't last forever. Thoughtless people would waste it. Marianne gets up from the table and goes to her room, claiming she feels ill. Vash decides to make his rounds, claiming he should at least act like a real bodyguard.

Meryl and Milly are out by the water fountain hoping that Vash the Stampede will show up. Meanwhile, Marianne is in her room about to undress when Vash knocks on the door. The two begin to talk. Marianne tells Vash she has been traveling to friends homes because her father doesn't trust her to journey alone. Vash begins to tell her that one day she will make a journey, but it may not be alone. Before he can go on, Marianne sees something moving outside. Vash runs to check it out, but it turns out to be Meryl and Milly. When they all three go back in the house both Marianne and Cliff are gone.

Milly finds one of Marianne's dresses. In it are some bloodied bandages. Meryl puts two and two together and comes to the conclusion that Marianne is the person after Cliff. (Vash strongly objects of course....) Milly suggests that ghosts kidnapped them. When asked what she means by that Milly states that Vash was looking for "spooks" on the roof. Meryl berates him for looking into a ladies room. As she gets in his face he falls backwards and in the process grabs on to a rope hanging from the ceiling. A curtain is opened, along with a trap door.

We next cut to a scene with Marianne running down a corridor. At the end of the passage she comes upon a water treatment facility. Cliff emerges from the shadows and catches her snooping around. He also notices she is wearing a Marshall's badge. Cliff shoots her in the shoulder and knocks her to the ground. With no witnesses left in town he can eliminate her with ease. He pinns her to the ground with a foot to the shoulder and prepares to finish her off. Suddenly, a goofy sounding howl fills the air. Vash comes tumbling down one of the water currents. He notices the water filters and notes that this is how Cliff affords his little luxuries. Marianne tells him to run for his life. This literally brings tears to Vash's eyes as he realizes Marianne is the girl he thought she was. He leaps out of the water and faces Cliff directly.

Cliff admits the bravery Vash is showing, but is apparently not impresses. He aims his gun and fires at Vash's head. To his (and everyone else's for that matter) amazement Vash dodges the bullet! This angers Cliff to no end, so he continues firing. Vash dodges each bullet and ends up right in Cliff's face. He knocks him back with a simple thump to the nose. Cliff opens his jacket to reveal automatic weapons which he uses to open fire on Vash again. He misses and ends up hitting the water filtering equipment. The equipment begins to spark, and the entire house is destroyed in an explosion.

The entire town is now filled with water. Marianne says the water all overflowed at once, but it will return underground in a few days. She thanks Vash for all his help. As he leaves them, he laments the fact that things didn't work out as planned. He really liked Marianne. He also figured this disaster would be blamed on him too.....
