Yu Yu Hakusho News Archive

July 2003

Thursday, 7.31.03  I have a really amazing update for all of you CCG fans. We got our hands on the Official Yu Yu Play-Mat. This is the full mat, not just the one that comes in the demo pack (As seen on the right) Click on the image for a larger view. Later!

Also, Here is a scan of the uber rare "Epic Tales" card from the upcoming Yu Yu Hakusho CCG.  At GenCon, Score was passing out Yu Yu Hakusho Demo Packs.  When we demo'd the game, we were told that approximately 1 in 200 packs had this rare "Epic Tales" card.

Wednesday, 7.30.03  I have a huge update for you today, it actually took me a few hours to do all of it. Eleven attacks have been added to the Attack List, 16 items have been added to the Items List page, and two new bios have been added to the Bios page. I'm really happy with this update as I finally have a respectable amount of items listed. Later!

Tuesday, 7.29.03  Thanks to L. Kinak, I have created what I have termed the "CCG Prelude" subsection of the site. If you look in the menu, you will see it along with the first two sections, Decks and Rules. Later.

Monday, 7.28.03   *UPDATE* It seems that today is just the day for news. I received an e-mail from Douglas Goldstein,
Senior Editor for ToyFare, Toy Wishes, and Anime Insider telling me about their latest issue doing a cover story on YYH. They outline everything you "need to know to be a spirit detective". The issue is on stands now or can be purchased via their website: http://www.anime-insider.com Thanks Douglas!

Also, I have received a nice piece of information on the CCG from a fan who attended GenCon that I will be posting tomorrow, so check back for that. Later!

Some interesting news has come my way regarding the new Yu Yu Hakusho video game. If you go to this link: http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/236571.asp, you can pre-order the game.

So far, what is known about the game is that it is being published by Atari and expected to be released on December 9, 2003. The genre will be RPG with a similar game-play to that of Legacy of Goku II. The price will be around $29.99 and made for the Gameboy Advance. It is certain that games are being developed for other systems as well, but no information has yet to be obtained on them.

Thanks again to Spirit Detective for the news.

Yu Yu CCG News:

Game Play demonstrations took place at Gen Con this past weekend.  Demo Packs were given away at Gen Con.  The game will definitely be hitting stores this September.

News from Z Store:  "Z Store will have 15,000 demo packs of the new Yu Yu Hakusho Collectible Card Game.  The Store will be putting packs in every Z Store order over the next 10 weeks, as supplies last."

Two ex Pojo Deck Mechanics, who now work for Score, were game designers for the Yu Yu CCG.  Chipmunk (left), and IQ (right). The ugly dude in the middle is Pojo (Bill).

Sunday, 7.27.03   Today I have prepared a small update, but nice nonetheless. Three new bios have been added to the Bios page. Later.

Saturday, 7.26.03   I have prepared a somewhat large update for today. Two new items have been added to the Items List page. I know that page is seriously in need of a larger update, but images of items are hard to find. Next I have updated the Episode Summaries page with summaries for eps 56-60. Finally, I have re-modeled the Death Files page in a more organized fashion rather than simple descriptions of the character's death. Enjoy.

Thursday, 7.24.03   Yet another new section joins the page today as I present to you Death Files. Here you will find a listing of who died in the series, in what saga, arc, how they died, and at who's hands. Also, I have updated the Dragon of the Darkness Flame Attack with a much better, much cooler pic. Enjoy.

Wednesday, 7.23.03   As promised, I have a content update ready for you. Twelve new Bios have been added to the section with the same name. Enjoy.

I'll have a content update for all of you later today, but here is some CCG news that I thought you would find interesting:

-The release date is confirmed for Sep 15th, and should arrive on schedule.

-The basics of game play: Each game is made up of a best 3 out of 5 matches. Matches are one on one between characters. You start with 4 characters in play, so if the game goes to the 5th match you have to play the 5th character out of your draw deck

-There will be 7 teams in the initial set. Revealed at the San Diego con were Urameshi, Uraotogi, Saint Beast, Masho, and Rakuyokai

-You can mix characters on your team (even good guys with bad guys), but if at least three members of your team have the same team icon, you qualify for a Team Bonus

-For example, if at least 3 of your characters are St. Beast, you get to draw an extra card at the end of your turn.

-There are 4 card types (character, Item, Technique, and Event). Characters are self explanatory, Items are things like Serpent Yo-Yos and Spirit Cuffs, techniques are learned attacks (like Spirit Gun Double) and Events are the obligatory play this card, get the effect, and discard it card, like Instants in Magic or Combat Cards in DBZ.

-There are 2 promos floating around already.

-A foil stamped Spirit Gun Double that was given out at AX, and an ultra rare demo pack that includes not only the usual demo cards, but a card called Epic Tales as well. Epic Tales is particularly hard to get, but there'll be some in the demo packs given out at gencon this weekend.

-We handed out 50,000 demo packs at San Diego. out of those, probably only 50 - 100 Epic Tales went into circulation

Thanks again to The Question of Spirit Detective for the news. Later!

Monday, 7.21.03   Some news about new YYH toys has just come my way thanks to Spirit Detective.com:

"Jakks Pacific, the company that now makes the toys for all FUNimation properties, has announced that they will be releasing YYH Series 2 Action Figures!

The characters that are to appear are Botan, Suzuka, Yusuke, and Koenma (in both his toddler and teenage forms). The figures are going to be priced at $12.95 a piece. From what I've seen, these figures look to be just as high quality, if not more so than Series 1 was. Don't believe me? Well, I scanned the article from my Animation Insider which gives the information along with a picture of the Yusuke figure and young Koenma figure."

Thanks to TheQuestion of Spirit Detective for the info.

After creating the Voice Actors page, I have used the model of that page to redo the Spirit Class page. Further, I have added every arc of the series up through the Dark Tournament to the spirit class page. Enjoy.

Sunday, 7.20.03   I have created yet another new section for everyone to enjoy, Voice Actors! Here you will find a listing of the VA that portrays characters in Yu Yu Hakusho in alphabetical order according to the character's name. Creating this section was not easy, so please check it out and enjoy. Later!

Friday, 7.18.03   Ten new BIOS have been added to the bios page. Many of which are supporting characters, but important nonetheless. Later.

Thursday, 7.17.03   I have added some more Episode and Movie submissions today. Enjoy.

Tuesday, 7.15.03   I have created a new section for all of you today, Spirit Class! Here you will find listing of what class of fighter the characters in YYH are. Further, I have added a new site to the Links section as well as a picture of Yoshihiro Togashi to the section of the same name. Later!

Monday, 7.14.03   Well, for those who thought I vanished, I say shame on you; for I have returned! Too dramatic? Ah well, I have an update to make up for it. BIOS have been updated with the Toguro Brothers as well as a whole bunch of new Attacks. Also, I have fixed some mistakes that were on the Glossary section.

On a more positive note, my summer course is, as of today, finished. What does this mean? I will now have much more time to spend working on the site and I have plans for a bunch of new sections as well as updates to those that already exist. So keep checking back for those. Later!

Monday, 7.07.03   Score sent us a Press Release today about the upcoming Yu Yu Hakusho Trading Card Game.  The Game is expected to hit stores in September.  The game will be unveiled to the Public at GenCon later this month.  Here's the full Press Release

Thursday, 7.03.03  YOOHOO! Sorry again everyone, I'm in the last 2 weeks of my Biology summer course and I have a lot of work. But enough of my excuses. I have added a new section today, Glossary. Here you will find terminology that is used in Yu Yu Hakusho that many may be unfamiliar with when watching the series; so the section will clarify the confusion. If you know of a term that I have forgotten to add, please tell me and I will update the list. Later.
