Ability: One of this ship’s treasures is worth +2 gold when unloaded at your home island.

The Pirates seem to specialize in tiny, inexpensive ships. This is realistic; most pirates couldn't afford a big square-rigger, and wouldn't buy one if they could - small ships were more maneuverable and better suited for piracy. But this one seems tinier than usual. Her cargo is terrible, as is her one cannon. Her speed is nothing to write home about. She's a poor gold runner, a worse fighter, and don't even think of boarding with her. So what is she, something to blow five points on when you've bought everything else you want?

Ahh, no. This ship has a major role to play, and that role is to stay at your home island and never move. Yes, you heard me. Your other ships gather the gold, and instead of unloading it at your home island, they transfer it to the Ahura Mazda, one coin at a time. The Ahura Mazda then unloads that coin, and runs up its value by +2. The little ship has paid for itself after only three coins, and every treasure she handles after that is pure profit.

An ability like this is worth quite a bit more than five points, in this captain's humble opinion. The Pirates already have a ship with this ability, the Greed's Hammer, but the Hammer has good cannons and cargo, and also costs more than twice as much. The Ahura Mazda is good for only one thing - treasure inflation - and she does it well, for a very low cost.

Total rating: 4 / 5
