Zealotpker's Deck GarageNEW BANNED LIST +
					more contest winners
 02.25.05
 Well, sorry for the
lack of reviews lately, I've been waiting on the last
contest winner's submission, it still hasn't come, so I'm
just going to go with the ones I have. Also, I have an
article on the new banned list, and a very creative
					honorable mention contest solution.
 Silver Surfer writes:

I m fairly sure this isn t the solution you had in mind, but
it is a solution that by no means would want Pot of Greed,
as it is a card that could lose this deck the game. Anyways,
					here it is.

 SOLUTION:

 Reversal Quiz Deck: 40 Cards

 Monsters: 39
 [2] Guardian Sphinx
 [1] Vampire Lord
 [3] Bazoo the Soul Eater
 [3] Prickle Fairy
 [3] Troop Dragon
 [3] Peten the Dark Clown
 [3] Night Assailant
 [3] Spirit Reaper
 [3] Spear Cretin
 [3] Mystic Tomato
 [2] Immortal of Thunder
 [2] Goblin Attack Force
 [1] Fiber Jar
 [1] Breaker the Magical Warrior
 [1] Cyber Jar
 [1] Morphing Jar
 [1] Magical Scientist
 [1] Exiled Force
 [1] Sinister Serpent
 [1] Fairy Injection Lily

 Spell: 1
 [1] Reversal Quiz

 Fusion:
[3] Dark Blade the Dragon Knight
 [3] Ryu Senshi
 [3] Reaper on the Nightmare
 [3] Dark Balter the Terrible
 [3] Fiend Skull Dragon
 [3] Thousand Eyes Restrict
 [3] Dark Flare Knight

 Strategy:

Get your own lifepoints as low as possible without losing,
play Reversal Quiz, and finish them off with one fell swoop.

 Reasons for Cards:

This deck depends on a delicate balance between Self-Burn,
Stall, Speed, Monster Self-Recursion, and Beatdown. If you
play it all out right, you can actually win fairly often.

 Self-Burn:

 [3] Mystic Tomato
 [2] Immortal of Thunder
 [1] Fairy Injection Lily
 [1] Magical Scientist

 Stall:

 [2] Guardian Sphinx
 [1] Vampire Lord
 [3] Spirit Reaper
 [3] Prickle Fairy
 [3] Mystic Tomato
 [3] Troop Dragon
 [3] Spear Cretin
 [3] Peten the Dark Clown

 Speed:

 [3] Troop Dragon
 [3] Mystic Tomato
 [3] Peten the Dark Clown
 [1] Cyber Jar
 [1] Morphing Jar

 Monster Self-Recursion:
 [3] Night Assailant
 [3] Peten the Dark Clown
 [3] Spear Cretin

 Beatdown:

 [3] Bazoo the Soul Eater
 [2] Goblin Attack Force
 [1] Breaker the Magical Warrior
 [1] Fairy Injection Lily
 [1] Magical Scientist

Immortal of Thunder is strictly Self-Burn. He s Flip, which
makes him a tad slow, but he can get destroyed pretty
easily. Fairy Injection Lily and Magical Scientist are most
definitely Self-Burn cards, but they are wonderful Beatdown
					as well. Mystic Tomato is just unbelievable for this deck;
he blocks several attacks, thins the deck, and lets your
lifepoints go down in a controlled way.

Vampire Lord is quite nice for this deck because he can keep
brining himself back, as well as doing a bit of Beatdown
every once in a while. Guardian Sphinx has a monstrous
defense (big enough to stop Jinzo, most powerful monster
commonly played) and a great effect that, while slow, can
possibly aid a Morphing Jar or just clear the field for a
final attack or a major blowback for your opponent. Spirit
Reaper has time and time again proved to be a wonderful
stall card, and I just love Prickle Fairy. Troop Dragon is
one that no one really uses because of cards like Nimble
Momonga and Giant Germ. Those two obviously don t belong in
this deck, so Troop works nicely. Spear Cretin is an often
overlooked card that can create a Spear Lock for attacks
(which doesn t work well, but can in the right context), but
more importantly, lets me use Cyber and Morphing Jar again.
I once got a Cyber Jar effect off 4 times successfully (in
my Necrophear deck, not this one) thanks to this guy. Also,
if he s on the field, I can flip him before Reversal Quiz
and set a Cyber Jar to swarm his field with whatever
Beatdowns I have left. Peten the Dark Clown is an amazing
card who can stall okay, deck thin, tribute for Sphinx and
Vampire, but much more importantly can get another out after
					a Reversal Quiz.

Cyber Jar can thin out my deck, get me out some monsters,
and destroy his all at once. Morphing Jar is great after a
Sphinx Flip or is another that gets me a lot of speed. Fiber
Jar is thrown in just in case anything goes ill with the
					Reversal Quiz.

Night Assailant destroys his card/gets good flip monster
					after Reversal Quiz.

Bazoo the Soul Eater is unbelievable just because of all of
the monsters I ll have in the graveyard. Goblin Attack Force
is a 2300 beatstick. Breaker can get rid of his set cards
					before final attack.

Other cards I was thinking about putting in this deck
include Kuriboh, Greenkappa, Gren Maju Da Eiza, and Jinzo.
Cards I was thinking I would take out include Immortal of
Thunder, Goblin Attack Force, and Breaker the Magical
					Warrior.

Why It Wouldn t Need Pot of Greed:

It seems pretty obvious; a Pot of Greed when using Reversal
					Quiz costs you the game.

That s my solution, hope you like it. Thanks for reading my
solution. Please e-mail me back, thanks again!

 ~SilverSurfer

Thanks for the extremely creative solution! Even
though all 5 contest winners have been decided already, I'll
still post this e-mail up in my review column as honorable
					mention.

Next we have the deck fix for one of the contest winners:

 Hi.
 This is my Fiend/Chaos deck.
I took it to the Butler regionals in October (4-4), but
haven't played it any other time. I recently made a few
changes, and haven't been able to playtest much, so I
thought I'd send it in to see what you think.

 Fiend/Chaos

 Monsters: 19

Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning
 Breaker the Magical Warrior
 D. D. Warrior Lady
 Dark Necrofear
 Dark Ruler Ha Des
 Fiber Jar
 Magical Scientist
 Magician of Faith
 Mobius the Frost Monarch
 Newdoria
 Night Assailant
 Night Assailant
 Night Assailant
 Shining Angel
 Sinister Serpent
 Slate Warrior
 Theban Nightmare
 Theban Nightmare
 Tribe-Infecting Virus

 Spells: 15

 Change of Heart
 Confiscation
 Creature Swap
 Heavy Storm
 Mirage of Nightmare
 Monster Reincarnation
 Mystical Space Typhoon
 Nobleman of Crossout
 Painful Choice
 Pot of Greed
 Premature Burial
 Scapegoat
 Smashing Ground
 Snatch Steal
 The Forceful Sentry

 Traps: 6

 Call of the Haunted
 Dust Tornado
 Raigeki Break
 Raigeki Break
 Ring of Destruction
 Torrential Tribute

Basically the point of the deck is to control the field and
the hand using night assailants, mirage of nightmare with
raigeki break, confiscation, the forceful sentry, and
Airknight Parshath from my side deck, then to bring either
of the "remove from play" monsters to finish. The theban
nightmares are in primarily for painful choice, as they are
light/fiends, and the monster reincarnation works well with
Mobius and Ha des and is supplemented by night assailant.
					Everything else should be self-explanatory.

 Thanks!

Interesting combination of Fiend/Chaos. However, I
don't think it will work and thus will suggest that you
					stick with just fiends.

 -BLS
 -DDWL
-Fiber Jar (fiends and fiber don't mesh well)
 -Magician of Faith
-Mobius the Frost Monarch (sideboard it)
 -Shining Angel
-2 Theban Nightmare (they aren't very good, even if they are
					fiends)

Now we have all of the Chaos elements out of the deck, lets
					add support for the fiends:

 +2 Newdoria
 +1 Dark Ruler Ha Des
 +2 Slate Warrior
 +1 Dark Necrofear
 +1 Cyber Jar

And now we have one slot left open to add on a spell or trap
(18 monsters is beter than 19 anyways).

And we'll utilize that slot with +Nobleman of Crossout for
					more consistency.

 In addition,

 -Scapegoats
 +Smashing Ground

Again, consistency, plus Smashing is just better in this
					deck.

The traps look pretty good, your monster lineup seemed to me
to be the biggest problem here.

Good luck at the next Butler Regionals!

And here the deck for the last contest winner:

 1 Sorcerer of Dark Magic
 2 Dark Magician
 2 Dark Magician Girl
 3 Skilled Dark Magician
 2 Apprentice Magician
 2 Magician of Faith
 2 Double Coston
 1 Breaker The Magical Warrior
 1 Tribe-Infecting Virus
 1 Cyber Jar
 2 Sage's Stone
 2 Double Spell
 2 Dark Magic Attack
 1 Thousand Knives
 1 Mystical Space Typhoon
 1 Change of Heart
 1 Painful Choice
 1 Pot of Greed
 1 Premature Burial
 1 Snatch Steal
 1 The Forceful Sentry
 1 Swords of Revealing Light
 1 Heavy Storm
 1 Smashing Ground
 1 Ring of Destruction
 1 Torrential Tribute
 1 Call Of The Haunted
 1 Magic Cylinder
 1 Trap Jammer
 1 Bottomless Trap Hole

 Very interesting deck.

 I recommend the following changes:

 -2 Dark Magician Girl
 -2 Sage's Stone
 -2 Double Spell
 -Trap Jammer

 +Bottomless Trap Hole
 +1 Magical Scientist
 +1 Apprentice Magician
 +1 Old Vindictive Magician
 +2 Pyramid Turtle
 +1 Vampire Lord
 +1 Dark Magician of Chaos

Those last 4 may look weird, but Double Coston is a Zombie,
and I'm adding in some synergy to the deck.

 -Swords of Revealing Light
 -Smashing Ground
-Thousand Knives (not worth the stipulations of usage)

 +Confiscation
 +Sorcerer of Dark Magic

That should put you at an even 40.

I'm adding in the 2nd Sorcerer of Dark Magic because now
they are incredibly easy to get out!

Sinply search out Scientist with Apprentice Magician, summon
2 SanWitches, and VOILA! Sorcerer of Dark Magic comes to
your bidding, leaving your opponent helpless with no traps
to save them from your 3200 attack spellcaster!

Okay, maybe that was a bit dramatic, but you get the
					picture.

DMoC is also now a force to be reckoned with, now that you
have 2 Double Costons, easily searched out by your 2 Pyramid
Turtles. And if you don't need a Coston, just start beating
					down your opponent with V-lord!

This deck should run much smoother and more powerfully than
the old one, good luck with it.

 Okay, now on to other
					matters.

For those of you who don't know about it, Japan has
recently updated their banned list (which means that America
will get the same one a month from now):

Credit goes to aladude85 for finding this:

Got it from Official Yugioh site (japanese) Link: http://www.yugioh-card.com/japan/tou/tou01.html

You can get the full scoop here: http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=134137
and I'm sure that there are plenty of other writers that are
submitting similar articles as I speak (although perhaps
					not).

So, what does the new banned list mean for us?

 Let's take a look:

Vampire Lord is Restricted to only 2 now, and D.D. Warrior
Lady has been taken down to 1, with Scientist being banned
					altogether.

This means that we can now expect a new age of Zombies as
our metagame. And Vampire Lord will be almost impossible to
get rid of. How can you prepare for this?

The immediate solution coming to mind is Berserk Gorilla.
However, this is somewhat iffy as most Zombie users have
					almost certainly prepared for this.

A (somewhat) in-depth speculation as to how the new metagame
					is going to shape out:

Most people will, as I said, be abusing Zombies for the next
					6 months.

This means that we can expect most people to be running, at
					the least,

 [2] Vampire Lord
 [3] Spirit Reaper
 [3] Pyramid Turtle

[2 or 3] Book of Life

In response, most people will most likely be packing their
					decks with plenty of answers:

[2 or 3] Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer

 Shuts down Zombies pretty nicely.

 [3] Berserk Gorilla

Kamikazes with V-lord, which is pretty nice.

In response to this expected surge, expect Zombie decks to
					be running cards such as:

 Enemy Controller
 Sakuretsu Armor
 Waboku

 Other solutions to Zombies:

Most people will probably be fighting Zombies with Zombies.
What better way to take down V-lord than with a Ryu Kokki?

Expect to see at least one Ryu Kokki in any decks running
Pyramid Turtles, as they are one of the best solutions to a
					Mirror Match.

Given that, Kycoos and Gorillas PROBABLY won't be enough on
their own, and not everyone wants the instability of that
					many beatsticks.

The one D.D. Warrior Lady we have left will probably be
utilized as an anti-zombie weapon. Expect it to be searched
out by Sangan almost as much as Sinister Serpent will be.

People may try D.D. Crazy Beasts too, with the expected
resurgence of Pyramid Turtles. However, brief playtesting by
has shown to me that they probably won't be as effective as
most people think (due to their inability to run over very
					much).

Legendary Jujitsu Master is yet another very nice answer to
zombies: sending them to the Graveyard is pretty useless, so
bounce them to the top of the deck instead.

Speaking of bouncing, Compulsory Evacuation Device deals
with Vampire Lord rather nicely. Bounce it to their hand,
and they'll have to sac for it if they want it again. Of
course, there's the risk that they'll discard it, but hey,
					them's the breaks.

And while we're on the topic of discarding, Robbin' Goblin
works very handily against Zombies. A major tactic is
running Pyramid Turtle into a bigger monster to get out
Vampire Lord. Well, if they REALLY want that Vampire Lord,
now they'll have to discard for it to. And it's also just a
					pretty good card all-around anyways.

Black Luster Soldier remains a stopper to Zombies. Of
course, there aren't really that many good LIGHT monsters
left, except Magician of Faith, so it really isn't that good
after the new set of bans.

Metamorphosis remains an excellent card in this format. It
allows you to get rid of Vampire Lord WITH CARD ADVANTAGE.

Creature Swap can also do this, although you may want to be
careful that you don't get a Pyramid Turtle sent to you.

Of course, Zombie users may well run Comp-Evacs against you
to take care of these 2 cards, as it is brutal when used
against either one (just completely stops Morph, and messes
					with Swap pretty badly too).

So, that's my take on the metagame, only time will tell.

Zombies can PROBABLY be dealt with so long as you have a
good side-deck, but you better come prepared if you hope to
					win a Regionals.
