Dark Paladin

Friday

XYZ Dragon Cannon, a "Fusion" of sorts, although more of a Union, has 2800 attack and 2600 defense, and is a Level 8 monster of the Light Attribute. It's a "Fusion" in terms of the monsters involved to "combine." Anyway, XYZ Dragon cannon, and the whole set is just an interesting premise that never really took off.

The idea of Union in general is interesting, attaching other monsters to one another to gain power and/or random effects, and even Fusing into respectable monsters like XYZ Dragon Cannon. As for the Cannon himself, he boasts a solid 2800 attack and has a rather annoying destruction ability.

As stated, for good starts, you don't need Polymerization, although the monsters must be on the Field. They are then removed from the game, and by discarding one card from your Hand, to destroy one card your opponent controls. A nice 1-for-1 as long as you have cards in your Hand.

XYZ Dragon Cannon cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard, but it's fine. I highly doubt anyone is playing this anyway. I think you could make a fairly competitve machine Deck, involving these guys (not the V or W) and some Gadgets and such.

XZY Dragon Cannon

This is another one of those crazy cards that we love to play around with but never actually win with. This is a level 8 LIGHT Machine with 2800 ATK and 2600 DEF and can only be Special SUmmoned from the Extra Deck by removing from play an X Head Cannon, Y Dragon Head and Z Metal Tank from the Field.

The stats are pretty good, but summoning it is harder than you might think. Return From the Different Dimension seems like a good idea, like what Kaiba himself used to bring this guy out. But you can also use that Continuous Spell that Special Summons Union monsters as Y and Z are both Unions. Ultimate Offering as well as Shining Angel can also be used.

The effect is simple. You ditch a card from your hand to blast one of your opponent's cards. This is a powerful effect, however you often will not have much of a hand at this point due to the amazing amount of resources needed to bring him out. Ironically, the lesser Fusions end up being better as they can actually come out easier and only lose a littl ebit of playability.

If you really want to build an XYZ, or VWXYZ deck, this guy had better be in the extra deck, because you WILL be kicking yourself at some point because you didnt have him available. Amazing new art on the card as well means that I am giving it a perfecr score, although it is certainly not playable in tournaments by pretty much any means.

XYZ-Dragon Cannon

I have a special place in my heart for this card... as I used to run a XYZ/machine/otk deck many many years ago when Limiter Removal was actually allowed at 3 (yeah you read right, 3!) and Raigeki, Harpies Feather Duster, etc. was still running around in every deck. While I admit this card very rarely hit the field, it was usually the death-blow to my opponent if it did. (Mainly because if I sacrifice a field of 3 machines for one, I was about to win regardless) The importance of this card is that it was sort of the original Dark Armed Dragon, as it allowed you to discard a card to destroy ANY type of card on the field, and at that time, it was rare for a card to have a destruction effect of that nature (Jae Kim is brilliant on this subject-matter, I suggest you read his stuff.) That's right, I'm saying XYZ helped pave the way for DaD and the like...

Traditional: 1.5
Advanced: 2.0 (I don't know if it deserves that high, but I can't let myself give it a 1... sentimental value)

Friday- XYZ-Dragon Cannon

To be honest, I have no idea why the XYZ cards were printed in Magician's Force. The cards are all terrible normal monsters and their "boss monster," XYZ-Dragon Cannon, is garbage.

This card is very difficult to summon and has an underwhelming effect.
