Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Fiend's Sanctuary
#DPKB-EN035

Special Summon 1 "Metal Fiend Token" (Fiend-Type/DARK/Level 1/ATK 0/DEF 0). It cannot attack. When this Token battles, the opponent takes any Battle Damage its controller would have taken. Pay 1000 Life Points during each of your Standby Phases. If you do not, destroy the "Metal Fiend Token".

Thursday

Fiend's Sanctuary is an interesting Magic card, another card in the Magic/Trap category that gives you a Token, and this one you are able to Tribute if you feel necessary, and it even deals damage if your opponent attacks it. This was seen, although never used by Kaiba, given to Yugi, and used by him in his duel against Marik.

You Special Summon one "Metal Fiend Token" (Fiend-type/Dark/Level 1/0 attack and 0 defense) and you can choose attack or defense postion, though I'm not sure why you would ever put it in defense position.
While the Token cannot attack, and likely never needs to, it does cause your opponent to take any Battle Damage you would take.

During your Standby Phase, you must pay 1000 Lifepoints to keep your Metal Fiend Token on the Field, or else it is destroyed. It has a few combos, and your opponent is either going to ram something weak into it, or waste an effect of sorts to run around taking the damage here.
A nifty piece of Tech.

Fiends Sanctuary

This is one of those cards that is reprinted after it was completely irrelevant. We have a Normal Spell that makes a 0/0 Token that inflicts damage to your opponent equal to the damage you would otherwise get and burns you for 1000 during each turn.

Ideally, this is used to tribute for a Monarch in a hot spot so that you can run basically more Monarchs than you would otherwise be able to. AS of right now, it is not needed so much, but I think that it is good enough to see play somewhere, just not necessarily at a premier level tournament.

Fiend's Sanctuary ...

This was Kaiba's "key" card that was supposed to help secure his win in the Battle City tournament ... and its a pretty cool card, at that. #1 - any player that uses it gets total style points, cuz it's one of those that's pretty good, but nobody ever uses ... maybe cuz it's kinda hard to come by? ... a little bit easier now with the new Kaiba pack out in circulation, but I think it's a card that one day some people will start playing, and tons of others will then decide to follow suit.

Anyway - u special summon a metal fiend token. Your opponent takes any battle damage u would receive from battles involving this card. awesome. Ur opponent will NOT want to attack it with something big. Too bad it can't attack or this thing would become SUPER funky. But the best aspect of Fiend's Sanctuary, and the reason I think people would want to play it is sheerly for the cost free special summon. Most spell cards that generate tokens have a stipulation that either u can't tribute the tokens or that u can't summon again for the turn .. or BOTH. Meaning u cant make immediate use of ur "cost free" special summon. FS has no such hold-up. Make the token. Tribute it for Caius or whatever. No muss, no fuss. Or just protect your life points. Either way - i like this card.

Fiend's Sanctuary:

Now this card could actually see play. There are no tribute restrictions on the token, so you could play this, and then summon a Monarch, Synchro, etc. Also, this could be a burn/stall card. Your opponent most likely will not attack it on their own, stalling a bit, or you could use a trap that forces them to attack it for some burn damage. That whole taking 1000 damage a turn thing will keep you from stalling for long with this guy though. As I said, I could definitely see this card being used in Monarchs or any tribute heavy deck, the token gets under Bottomless at least.

Thursday- Fiend's Sanctuary

This card is terrible. You can tribute the token on the same turn it is summoned for a Monarch. However, with cards like Battle Fader, Treeborn Frog, and Soul Exchange effectively doing this for free, using Fiend's Sanctuary is a bad idea.

This COTD week is very nostalgic and packs many cards that were used in the original Yu-Gi-Oh! television show, before they decided to go wild and make it Dueling.... with Motorbikes! I feel a bit wistful giving all of these iconic cards the lowest score possible :(.
