Blackwing - Ghibli the Searing Wind ...

Another new Blackwing monster ... cuz they need all the help they can get, right?

Well Ghibli is a pretty decent addition to the family. What he does is ALMOST prevent against those pesky 1-turn kills that everyone is afraid of. When your opponent goes for the direct attack, u can special summon this bird--thing, effectively halting that attack. 1600 DEF aint a whole lot, but it can at least save u from taking a SUPER huge hit. It has 0 ATK, but thats a good thing as it is searchable by just about anything Dark or Blackwing related that u can think of. And if it is called upon to fight, u can swap its ATK with its DEF, so now it can hit for 1600 points. Not bad for a level 3 monster with tons of support.

Not necessary for a Blackwing deck, but not detrimental either. I'm certain that there are some kick-ass combos laying within that sooner or later someone with the time on their hands will figure out.

Blackwing - Ghibli the Searing Wind:

Don't  really know what they were going for when they made this card.  It's a cool effect, along the lines of Gorz and Trag, but the card itself isn't nearly as useful.  The stats suck for the most part, and the secondary effect is garbage.  Sure, he can save you from one direct attack in a pinch, but I'd still rather be running something else in his place, as blackwing decks have much better cards to pick from.  For that matter, I'd rather run Gorz or Trag as mentioned earlier.  Interesting design attempt, but for the most part, a fail in my book.

Blackwing – Ghibli the Searing Wind is one of the new Blackwing cards.  This is both a blessing and a bane for the card: yes it comes to the table with strong supporting cards, but it also has to compete with all the other Blackwing cards for deck space.  It is a Dark/Winged Beast, like the other Blackwing monsters and this lets it use Dark Support (great) and Winged Beast support (not so great, but still good).  It has an abysmal 0 ATK and poor 1600 DEF.  This monster has two effects.  First it can Special Summon itself like many Blackwing monsters: the catch here is that Blackwing – Ghibli the Searing Wing can Special Summon itself in response to a direct attack from your opponent.  The good news is that means you can plop it down into DEF position and stop a weenie cold.  The bad news is that it probably won’t survive, so you’re dropping your hand size just to save some LP.  The second effect is that once per turn, until the End Phase, it can swap its ATK and DEF scores.  It lets it hit for some damage, but not much.

The main reason to run this is to counter OTK decks.  Given that Blackwing decks themselves are usually trying to swarm for game pretty early on, I don’t know if that’s the best tactic.

The COTD called... It said it wanted better cards...

Blackwing - Ghibli the Searing Wind is one of the new Blackwing cards, but is going to fall over like Foehn did (who is this "Fane Chain" you speak of?). Like Battle Fader, this card is summoned from your hand when you're about to take a direct hit. However, unlike Battle Fader, Ghibli doesn't end the battle phase. He doesn't even negate the direct attack. He's a waste of a card because the opponent will just plow through him.

The only utility our actually-black-winged friend has is his 0 ATK, and allowing you to get something with Black Whirlwind no matter what's summoned. ... However, this is only going to be of any use when you're just overflowing with advantage and there's no Gale, Bora, Blizzard, etc. to grab.

Additionally, you can flip his stats around for a turn, but that can't be a good idea because you're essentially killing him by leaving a 0 ATK monster in attack position. Ghibli's a victim of bad card design because there really isn't much he can do.

1.5/5
Art: At least this Blackwing is somewhat black.
Fun Fact: Mmmm-Ghibli. Fun to say.
Tomorrow: Reminds me of that bird enemy from Kirby Superstar.

Monday- Blackwing_-_Ghibli_the_Searing_Wind

Unfortunately most of the Blackwing support from The Shining Darkness is badly designed for competitive tournament play. Ghibli the Searing Wind is similar to Battle Fader, Gorz Emissary of Darkness, and Tragoedia. Unfortunately for Ghibli, the three cards mentioned are all amazing and pretty much cover all the bases in terms of what players seek from the mechanic.

With the way the current metagame is constructed, D.D Crow is a far more effective “OTK blocker” than Ghibli. And because Crow is also a Dark Winged-Beast, it works with Icarus Attack and Allure of Darkness (though Ghibli has an edge with Cards for Black Feathers builds). Ghibli would have been slightly more playable if it was a tuner as well with better stats (perhaps 0/1900). Unfortunately, as it stands the card is average and outclassed by better alternatives.
