Egotistical Ape, a card that like yesterday, is described fairly well by it's name, as our friend is a bit egotistical.  We have a Level 5, Earth attributed, Beast-type monster, who is also a Tuner, which is almost immediately a turnoff.  1200 attack and defense, which sucks, but actually are pretty irrelevant.

Anyway, the egotistical part comes in along the fact that you can't Normal Summon or Set this card and you can only Special Summon this guy by sending a Beast-type monster from your Hand to the Graveyard...so you discard a specific monster instead of tributing...

So what's the payoff?  Nothing really, you can increase or decrease the Level of Egotistical Ape by the Level of the Beast you chose to discard to Special Summon this card.  I guess it can help a little in the fact that Beasts have some specific "Beast only Tuner" type monsters.  I still don't see why about 99% of the time you wouldn't just use a Tuner that doesn't suck.

After a sabbatical, I'm back!  And I start off with the Giant Monkey of Vanity, a.k.a. Egotistical Ape.  He got quite a nice wall of text, right?  And a level 5 Beast Tuner....Konami is going to try and produce a lot of Beast decks from this set.  At first glance, it doesn't seem like a terrible card, and you're right, it's not useless.  My problem is with his summoning condition, sending a beast from your hand to the graveyard.  So you give an extra card to summon this guy, and then you have the option to activate his effect, either Increasing or Decreasing his level by the send monster's level.  So you could have the potential of having a very large level for a tuner.  Another problem is his attack and defense scores, 1200 on both is too small for the condition of his summon, even if his intention is to immediately be used in a synchro summon.  Not a terrible card, but not great support, either.  If you want a beast tuner with flexibility, use this.  If you want to use a beast tuner that won't be an instant -1, use X-Saber Airbellum, or Key Mouse, etc.
