Dark Paladin
Tuesday

Battlestorm, originally in my Raging Battle week from last week, but we took a day off...incredible art, picture, background...anyway, we have a Dark attributed Winged-Beast type monster, who is Level 4, with 1700 attack (not bad) and 1000 defense.

Now, Battlestorm gains 100 attack and defense for each face-up Winged-Beast type monster on your Field...not a terrible effect, but a marginal increase, although this card boosts itself, up to 1800 attack, so that's nice. Two at the same time would be 1900 and three would be 2000 each...

Furthermore, if you control three or more face-up Winged-Beast type monsters, you can destroy one Magic or Trap card your opponent controls. This I like, even though three monsters may be a lot...Winged-Beasts are fast and can replenish quickly.

General Zorpa Battlestorm

Well, we have the RGBT promo card today. He has 1800 ATK on a DARK Winged Beast with 4 stars. That is actually about average, as Shura the Blue Flame is very similar. The problem arises with this guy's effect, which is really good, but just not what The deck that would run him (Blackwings) needed at this point in time.

He actually has some great effects. The first is that fro every Winged Beast you control, he gains 100 ATK. Hence why I said he has 1800 ATK as he himself is a Winged Beast. This allows him to compete fairly nicely with the Gladiator beasts and Lightsworn so long as you have mor eWinged Beasts. The next effect is that once per turn if you have 3 or more Winged Beasts on your side of the field you can destroy one spell or trap card on the field.

You would think that a growable Breaker would get played a ton, but the fact that he is not a Blackwing hurt this card like none other. Blackwings are great at swarming the field, so long as they have more Blackwings to back them up. You cannot swarm without other Blackwings so Battlestorm never really gets to his good effects and then if you do get to swarm then you would likely win anyway with all of the Blackwings that you have.

Even the Breaker effect is not that great as Blackwings have Delta Crow to be able to Harpies Feather Duster their opponent's field so beyond that they really don't need the spell and trap destruction.

To put Blackwings aside, I do thinl that he might be able to work in a Harpie deck, as they kind of need all the help that they can get. They swarm not as aggressively as Blackwings, so you should have more time to make better use of Battlestorm's effects.

Today’s card up for review is Battlestorm, yet another interesting Sneak Preview Promo to add to the collection. This is what I like to see, playable cards for forgotten types of decks! Now I could have MAYBE seen this in a Blackwing deck, but then all of this busted beyond belief support was made, so now it is pretty much about winning quickly. But anyways, for those who run a Winged Beast deck, why not use 3 of this guy? Let’s face it, they never got much support, so this guy is staple in that sort of deck. You can certainly pull it’s destruction effect off as well

Battlestorm …

The pre-release promo card … Black Wing’s best friend, without actually being a member of the Black Wing Family … What a hose, right? Well anyways, he’s still pretty good. 1700 ATK but gains 100 for every winged beast on the field … HE himself is a winged beast, so he come out swinging at 1800 really. Black Wings love to swarm, so coupled with them he’ll often be batting at about 1900 – 2100 … not too bad for a 4 star monster. He’s dark, so he gets all the awesomeness of that as well. And lastly – once per turn, he can pop a spell or trap if there are at least 2 other winged beasts on your side of the field. Nice? Yes, it is.

But Battlestorm’s really MAJOR downside is that he ISN’T a Black Wing monster. Black Wings are so awesome cuz they synergize with each other like Whoa! But they need the name in order to do it. He can’t Synchro for the20bigger ones. He doesn’t get protected by Ka’lut. He doesn’t fetch more with the whirlwind. Much like the wacky next door neighbor in any good sitcom, he helps OUT the Black Wing Family, but they don’t ever really do much for HIM. And he’s not THAT awesome that he’ll ever get his own spinoff. U feel me?

TWe continue this weeks COTD with Battlestorm, a new Winged Beast monster that people are debating on adding in with Blackwings. Battlestorm is a 1700 attack beatstick with a mere 1000 defense, but gets 100 attack for each face-up Winged Beast monster you control. Automatically it becomes a 1800 Breaker the Magical Warrior.

Being such a strong monster for its stats and having a decent effect, its still rather difficult to use. Blackwing decks usually have an easy time of swarming the field so its not too hard, but still complicated and honestly too much work for destroying 1 Spell or Trap card. Its not a terrible card but I think there are better choices.

Looks like Winged beast finally get a new card that do what Winged Beast are supposed to do (Boost up attack and clear backfield). This little guy started off as 1800 attack due to its own effect and get a boost for every winged beast on the field so it max attack is 2200. For a four star monsters its great. It also has built in backfield destruction as long as you have three or more winged beast monsters. Now obviously this can be used in Blackwing but a lost archetype that loves this card is Harpie. It gives them an allure target ran along with Krebons, Gale, & Shura. Harpies can be at least a 15.-2.0 Tier deck due to the given speed and flexibility this card allows. I like this card allot as it does bring it's own type up a little but only thing I don't like is that it really doesn't help the decks it's just raw power.
