Dark Paladin

Monday

Yellow Baboon, Archer of the Forest opens the week, apparently brother of Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest. Now, we have a Level 7 Beast type monster with 2600 attack and 1800 defense, identical to Green Baboon. Yet the conditions upon Special Summon are different.

With our Yellow Archer friend, you can Special Summon the card from your Hand (only as opposed to the Graveyard too) and by removing two Beast-type monsters from your Graveyard from the Game. However, there is no 1000 Lifepoint cost here.

Honestly, I think they complement each other pretty well, I don't see why you would play one over the other in the Beast or Baboon Deck, He certainly isn't any worse than the other card, but he isn't really any better either. So now we have two cards that are simply "ok."

Yellow Baboon, Archer of the Forest ...

Ok, a fun little theme may be emerging ... This card is very similar to the Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest ... Similar name ... exact same stats ... similar effect ... And therefore kinda tricky to judge ...

Beast type and Earth type ... both very good. 2600 ATK .... pretty strong, especially for a special summon. At level 7, u would hate to have to tribute 2 monsters for it, as 2600 wouldnt be worth it on THAT end, but that isn't your plan going in with this guy. When a beast type monster is destroyed in battle, u can remove 2 in your graveyard from play to special summon him from your hand. Green was better because although u paid lifepoints, u could special summon him from either the graveyard or the hand. The trickiness comes from some kind of errata that was given to Green that took away the fun an playability of him, which i'm guessing extends to Yellow as well. And as much as it would be to bring out both of these guys at the same time on your opponent, whichever effect u activate, u will miss the timing on the other so it will rarely ever happen. So will never get the Green & Yellow swarm thing going on ...

I dunno.
Seems like a fun a idea that just isn't gonna be half as good as u imagine it to be.
Not bad. Not good. Just average.

Yellow Baboon... eww. Granted, this card doesn't cost life points to summon it, I would still rather pay life points. Also to top things off the monster has to be destroyed by battle and sent to the graveyard. Green Baboon only needs a monster to be destroyed and a cost of a mere 1000 life points. Hello!? Nimble Momonga gives you a free 1000 life points per Nimble Momonga thats destroyed in battle. Granted you can use Yellow Baboon with Return from the Different Dimension, however you'd be better off using Bazoo the Soul-Eater instead. Yellow Baboon look scool too but still I'd rather not use Yellow Baboon when Green Baboon is at 3 and so is Manticore of Darkness.

Greg

Yellow Baboon, Archer of the Forest:

Beast decks get a much needed boost by getting Green's sibling. I want to like this card but I'm not clear on a few rulings so I cannot pass total judgment yet. It seems that the most obvious target for destruction by battle in a beast deck would be moja. Moja allows you to snag a Lv. 4 or lower beast from your grave when destroyed by battle, but would Yellow miss his (or her perhaps, I am not up to date on forest creature anatomy) chance to activate when you do this? If Yellow does miss its timing, there are plenty of other beasts that do not have an effect that activates when destroyed by battle, just wait until one of those eats it. Either way, Yellow is definitely not hurting the beast line-up and makes a nice compliment along side Green.

Traditional: 1.5
Advanced: 2.5 (could change upon rulings clarification)
