Lord
Tranorix
UFOroid

UFOroid is kind of like Giant Rat and Mystic Tomato in that it summons a monster when it’s destroyed in battle. It’s different in that it doesn’t summon monsters of a particular Attribute – it summons them of a particular Type. Machines.

Are there good Machines with under 1500 ATK? Yes there are. Kinetic Soldier’s a nice choice to counter Warriors. Cannon Soldier is always rentsy. Cyber Stein might work. And I’m sure there’s more.

The downside? UFOroid is a Level 6 monster. Therefore, it’s just not worth it, unless you’re also running Shining Angel, and you use that to summon this, to summon another weak machine more quickly. Seems a bit unnecessary…I mean, if you’re after Cyber Stein, you might as well just use Mystic Tomato.

Machine Deck (?): 2/5

ExMinion OfDarkness
UFORoid

This card could have been so good, but then they had to throw 2 more Level stars on it that didn't need to be there.

Light and 1200 ATK = good, searchable by Shining Angel.
Search for a Machine = can be good, depends on what kind of deck you're running that you need to use a 1500 or less ATK machine.
6 stars = BAD. Why tribute for a 1200 ATKer that will at BEST replace itself with a 1500 ATKer?

Honestly, they should have taken a page out of Pyramid Turtle's book (kinda) -- if you have to Tribute for the searcher, you should be able to pull from 2000 ATK or less, not 1500. At least let the Machine player get a Chaser out or something.

Don't even bother.

1/5 all

Coin Flip
UFOroid is like a good searcher except not. Please don't use this card. Not even to fuse another monster. This card is like some abomination of a good card. I mean, we had Shining Angel and Mystic Tomato and UFO Turtle and Mother Grizzly and Flying Kamakiri #1 and Giant Rat, what's the point of another crappy searcher?

Don't use this card when there are better, cheaper and stronger cards already easily available.

Snapper UFOroid

Out final card for this week and for this Forbidden List is UFOroid, a monster that COULD have been good, but isn't.

When I first learned of UFOroid, I thought, "Hey; this card's pretty good!
The 1200 ATK isn't great, but its Machine Type should make up for that by allowing you to use Limiter Removal with it. And even without LR, the ATK isn't terrible, and it's not like UFOroid is meant for attacking either, given its effect.

"And just look at that effect! When UFOroid is destroyed in battle, it allows you to Special Summon a Machine with 1500 ATK or less from your Deck to your hand. That's like Mother Grizzly, but for Machines! And since some of the better Machine monsters have less than 1500 ATK, UFOroid is great!
I'll use it in that Machine Deck I keep meaning to make! This card is great!" Yeah, so everything was dandy; I was really looking forward to UFOroid's release in the US. Then I read the spoiler for the TCG CRV set, and I discovered the little detail I had missed before; that UFOroid was a Level 6 monster.

UFOroid pretty much died that day. It isn't that UFOroid's effect suddenly became bad; it's just that UFOroid became a complete waste of potential space. After all, why should I throw away Deck room on a 1200 ATK monster that requires a Tribute, merely to get an effect I can easily live without?
Easy: I shouldn't and won't and didn't; my theoretical Machine Deck would survive without it. In the long run though, it didn't matter that I couldn't use UFOroid; a month later I scraped the Machine Deck idea since I couldn't use 3 Limiter Removals anymore. Oh well.

Overall, UFOroid could have been a staple for Machine Decks. But a poor choice of stats really killed all chances it had of being played. You could find fancy ways of brining it to the field of course, but you'd be better off in those instances simply summoning the monster you'd be summoning through UFOroid, rather than summoning UFOroid and then the monster.

And before this review is brought to an end, I'd like to point out that is was around a year ago that I won the position of COTD Reviewer for Pojo's YGO site. Because I haven't had a milestone like this before, I decided I should look back on my year's "accomplishments". What are these "accomplishments" that I speak of? To put it simply, there aren't any.

So, it is with this review that I bring my COTD career to a close. After a year's worth of bad rulings, reviews with no insight into YGO's competitive environment and the game in general, unnecessary ramblings, and 52 weeks of loathing a writing-type-thing I should deeply enjoy, I feel it is for the best. I have greatly enjoyed my time on the main page, and I've even gotten $50 out of it. But in the end I'm simply not qualified to continue this job, and I don't want to need to think up a new batch of BS for the next Forbidden List. So farewell to those of you that have faithfully read my work. May my lurking of the Pojo forums someday allow our paths to cross, at which point you can tell me what an inspiration I am and how I'm so handsome and modest and smart and so on and etc.

P.S. Kudos to anyone that finds the secret message in this week's card line-up! (I should hope it wouldn't be too difficult.)

Advanced (Machine Deck): 2/5. Level 6 is so not worth it.
Traditional (Machine Deck): 1.5/5. See Advanced.
Overall (Machine Deck): 1.75/5.
Art: 1.5/5. I know it's supposed to be a UFO, but none of the obviously fake UFO pictures I've seen look even remotely close to that. Even without the eyes.

Dark Paladin
As our week of keeping me in the dark comes to a close, we come to a reasonably useful card UFOroid.

In short, it's the Machine searcher. Destroy it and you can summon a 1500 or less machine from your deck. If you play a Machine deck with multiple monsters fitting this criteria, play it.

3/5 in it's own Machine deck

IF WE DON'T GET SOME GOOD CARDS FAST, I SWEAR...by the way, I AM holding ACE OF SPADES HOSTAGE STILL, and WILL NOT RELEASE HIM UNTIL WE GET SOME GOOD CARDS AGAIN

*growls and exits, stage right*

UFOroid

(Machine/Effect/ Light/6 Stars/1200/1200)

When this card is destroyed as a result of battle and sent to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon from your Deck 1 Machine-Type monster with an ATK of 1500 or less in face-up Attack Position. Then shuffle your Deck.

Well, I’d say this is a decent thing for Machine decks, but since Konami and UDE have recently decided to re-restrict Limiter Removal, that would be like that Speed Racer Commercial for Geico Car Insurance.

Since they decided to kick Machines in the nuts instead of limiting Cyber Stein to kill that OTK. Fine, I can deal with that. Either way, this would make Machines scary........kinda. Being a tutor for Machines is cool, but this deck type got raped by the list, so they won’t be played much.

It’s stats are decent for something that needs to die in battle, but the fact that it is a 5 star creature makes it suck greatly. The only tributes a Machine deck would run would be Jinzo, Blowback and maybe an Airknight.

Overall, this card deserves to be a part of the CRV collection, not any kind of a deck.

Trad. Rating: 1/5 (Being generous)

Adv. Rating: 2/5 (More room to work could make it a tiny bit better, but that new list hurts it badly)

Draft Rating: Trash (Unless you have nothing else to work with, it’s trash)

Artwork Rating: 5/5 (UFO’s and stuff like that are cool to me, so I naturally give it that rating)
