SomeGuy Tuesday - Blast Held by a Tribute

Blast Held by a Tribute is an unreliable form of Mirror Force. If you need more mass monster removal, stick with Torrential Tribute.

During a tournament, chances are that if you're opponent Tribute Summons a monster, it will be Jinzo. This alone should tell you what I think about this card from a competitive perspective.

Casual is casual. People tend to play lots of level 5 and 6 monsters when they are not worrying about advancing to the next round. Thus, it has potential here.

Seeing how solid tribute monsters dominate Limited, getting a hold of Blast Held by a Tribute will put you in a superior position.

Rating:

Constructed - 1.5/5
Limited - 3.5/5
ExMinion OfDarkness Blast Held by a Tribute

Fortunately, I have never had the displeasure of pulling this card. Why? Situational doesn't even begin to describe it.

There are 4 one-Tribute monsters people play that are Normal Summoned. Jinzo, Ha Des, Great Maju Garzett (Maybe) and Vampire Lord. I'm not even going to go into two-tribute monsters because if your opponent normal summons a two-Tribute monster, you should be ashamed of yourself (barring a Deck with so much monster swarming that they always seem to have two monsters on the field).

Jinzo stops this card from going off, and Vampire Lord just comes back next turn! Unless you're playing in an environment where everyone is using Summoned Skulls and GMGs, this card isn't worth the cardboard it's printed on.

1/5
Omega This isn't what I would call a "Great" card. Generally people only use a very small number of Tribute monsters. And a vast majority of them are Jinzo, and since Jinzo negates traps it won't work.
And even still you don't see very often (with all the dump and revive cards out there), 5+ level monsters that actually get Tribute summoned.
If you do manage to get this trap off it's just like a Mirror Force that does 1000 Damage.
I personally don't believe that the benefits out weigh the situational aspect. This is a VERY hard card to get off.

I can only give this card 1.5/5. I mean it's not as useless as Skull Servant, but it is very hard to use since very little tribute monsters float around.
Tony Sorry guys about the LONG absence from the Card of the Day posts... =\ I was busy with school work and preparing for another regionals. But I'm back and here to review the first card in like 2 weeks ^^

Blast Held by a Tribute (Counter Trap)

Pros
+ It kills off the Tribute Monster and any other face-up attacking creatures
+ If they have ALL attacking monsters, you just played a Raigeki
+ It inflicts 1000 points of direct damage
+ Force your opponent to play Painful Choice to throw tribute monsters in the grave.

Cons
- can ONLY be used AFTER 2 conditions: Your opponent MUST tribute for a monster and only be activated when your opponent declares a battle phase.
- It doesn't destroy ALL monsters, just face-up attacking monsters.
- Most people play with only 1 or 2 tribute monsters and it is most likely a Jinzo. Also, Vampire Lord STILL comes back from this card's effect.
- situational?
- they can use Call of the Haunted to restart battle phase anyways...

hRmmm...now this card is an Ultra Rare soo there MUST be a reason why this card is good...right?

*sigh* sadly my friend, there isn't. If you think about it, this card is one of the most situational cards. First, you can only use this during battle phase. Normally, all your magics/traps are destroyed before your opponent declares an attack. Also, when's the last time you saw a Vampire Lord come from tribute summon? When's the last time your DIDN'T see Jinzo from Call of the Haunted? When's the last time you saw an Airknight Parshath being Monster Reborned? The fact that you may only activate this card when your opponent needs to A) Tribute Summon (not special summoned from the Graveyard) and B) Only when your opponent declares Battle Phase makes this card very situational hence hard to play in a meta-game where only about 4-6 traps can survive in 1 deck.

I know I listed some Pros for this card but I don't think this card belongs in any deck. =\

Ratings:
Limited - 7/10 (There has to be a LOT of Tribute monsters)
Constructed - 2.5/10 (I wish you can do this to Chaos Emperor Dragon and/or Black Luster Soldier)
Otaku

Stats: Since it activates when you are attacked, I don’t think it could be much better and still make sense.  Yeah, this section is pretty weak when I need to review most non-monsters.

Card Text (Effects): If the attacking monster is a Tribute monster, you get to destroy all monsters on your opponent’s side of the field that are in attack mode.  It doesn’t negate the attack, but last I checked, if a monster was destroyed before the damage step, its attack would be effectively negated-it would only matter for effects that might go off before it got nuked.  There is more though-you also do 1000 LP damage to your opponent.  Basically, this card is a super-picky Mirror Force.

Uses/Combinations: This screams “side deck” material.  Most decks don’t use a lot of Tribute monsters, but when you come across one, this will really hurt them bad.  You could use tricks to “make” them have a Tribute monster (like with Creature Swap), but it doesn’t really seem worth the effort to do so.

Ratings

Casual: 3/5-A lot of Tribute monsters are played here-at least more than in normal tournaments.

Constructed: 2.5/5-You are less likely to come across Tribute Monsters here, but when you do, this really hits them hard.

Limited: 4/5-Fantastic here: almost everyone will have one Tribute Monster that is worth summoning, so this is practically a Mirror Force in this format!

Summary

Its uses are specialized, but still, its not a bad card.
