Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Gravekeeper's Cannonholder

Card Number - PGD-066

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.
5 is the highest rating

Date Reviewed - 09.17.03

Dark Umbreon This is one of my favorite Gravekeeper cards, but it has some drawbacks. Basically, you get to offer a monster with Gravekeeper in it's name to do 1700 direct damage to your opponent. However, you can't offer any Gravekeeper's Cannon Holder's for the effect. And you can't use Tribute Summons, either (duh)

The good points to this card is that if you run a Gravekeeper deck, you're going to be seeing a lot of Gravekeeper's to offer. I like to offer the Spy and the Guard after their Flip Effects are activated, Especially if you're not going to use them again. 700 damage isn't a lot, especially if you run out of things to offer. However, that extra bit of damage is always helpful.

The downsides are that it can't offer itself. I loved being able to offer Cannon Soldier when I ran out of things to shoot. That isn't a real serious drawback, however it doesn't help. You can't offer other GKCH, which really doesn't help if that's all you have. It's stats aren't good at all, so it probably won't live very long.

In a Gravekeeper deck, this ends up being one useful card, especially if you use Necrovalley to boost its stats. It's basically the Cannon Soldier of the Gravekeeper's.

Tournament Rating: 4/5
Casual 4/5
DuelMonster Wednesday:

Gravekeeper's CannonHolder/Gunner:
PGD-066-Short Print
Dark/Spellcaster/4/1400/1200
Effect: Offer 1 card that includes "Gravekeeper’s" in its card name on your side of the field as a tribute to inflict 700 points of Direct Damage to your opponent’s Life Points. However, you cannot offer this card or another "Gravekeeper’s Cannonholder" with this card’s effect. Monsters used for a Tribute Summon or that are offered as Tributes due to other cards’ effects are excluded.

Well, this is basically a Gravekeeper form of Cannon Soldier, but the 3 main differences are:
1- You can ONLY tribute Gravekeeper's.
2- You can't tribute himself for the effect.
3- It does 700 damage where as Cannon Soldier only does 500.

Speed, Speed, Speed... That’s what Gravekeeper's like. Within a well put together GK-Deck you will have many other GKs to tribute and with GK-Spy and Rite Of Spirit to get ammo quicker you can attack with all your forces then tribute them off for the finishing blow.

The best monster to use for tribute (IMO) would be GK-Curse, since when it summon (for any reason) it does an automatic 500 damage, so when you summon it, then tribute it, then bring it back (RoS) and tribute it off again that does 2400 damage right there, and if you get a clear attack through with both of them alone it's 4600, and with Necrovalley it's 5600.

So depending on how many Rite Of Spirits, or if you have GK-Chief out when Necrovalley is active or if Necrovalley isn't active you can use the 3x main recursion cards to load up some extra fire power, then if you really want to be evil you can throw in a couple Last Wills to double the speed of the opponents demise, but it's no doubt that a GK-CannonHolder can make a big difference in how fast the added burn helps in a GraveKeeper’s Deck when built well.

With Necrovalley out he becomes a Lv-4 1900 attacker, so attacking with all your forces then tributing them all will cause some quick damage, but it obviously isn't a good idea to just fire off you only offense and defense if that last tribute isn't going to win you the game right then and there, So using GK-CannonHolder should be planned out before jumping in and firing away.

Ratings:
Casual: 2.5
Tourney: 3.5
ArtWork: 3.0 - I would assume his "cannon" shoots a blast of energy with the Gravekeeper's souls cause their bodies aren't go to fit in that thing.

Martaveli In this.

This card, Seriously is not worth playing at all. You may as well play a cannon soldier. Not being able to sacrifice monsters of the same name as itself holds you back from delivering that last bit of damage need to finish off your opponent. I would say this is the second least useful Gravekeeper.

Lets just play that bad boy Cannon Soldier instead of this son-of-a-puppy.
