The show begins with Alexis
and Zane talking by the lighthouse. Alexis wonders why
Zane isn't happy about having his little brother Syrus
in Duel Academy only to have Zane reply "Maybe because
he doesn't belong here".
Meanwhile, the Disciplinary
Action Squad arrive at Jaden's dorm to inform Jaden and
Syrus that they were trespassing at the abandoned dorms.
Jaden and Syrus are brought to a room in Duel Academy
where Crowler proposes a tag duel that will clear the
charges on Jaden and Syrus if they win...of course,
Crowler will expel them if they lose. Syrus begins to
think negative thoughts about letting Jaden down in the
tag duel as they go to their dorms to prepare.
Chum Li and Alexis are in
Shepard's office trying to convince him to be Jaden's
tag partner rather than Syrus. Neither argument made
Shepard budge so the final team is Jaden and Syrus. Of
course, Chum Li did say that he led the group to the
abandoned dorm's cafeteria.
Jaden and Syrus begin their
practice duel down by the cliffs with Jaden starting off
the duel action by summoning Elemental Hero Avian in
attack mode while setting a card face down. At this
point, Alexis arrives and watches the duel alongside
Chum Li. Syrus draws and notices that one of his cards
can beat Jaden's Avian. Syrus then summons Patroid in
attack mode and sends it after Avian only to be stopped
by Jaden's face down Negate Attack. Afterwards, Jaden
points out that Syrus could've used Patroid's special
ability to look at Jaden's face down card. Syrus feels
bad about his mistake and ends his turn. Jaden then
summons his Elemental Hero Sparkman in attack mode and
has it attack Patroid followed by a direct attack with
Avian.
Syrus is losing confidence in
himself and begins to play in the dirt. Chum Li and
Alexis are trying to help motivate Syrus until he is on
his feet again and draws a card. He plays Pot of Greed
which causes him to draw Polymerization and Power Bond.
Syrus has a flashback of a duel where he had confronted
a bully and tried to play Power Bond only to have Zane
stop the duel by giving the bully a card. Zane points
out that Syrus has no skill to play Power Bond. Syrus
then summons Gyroid and plays Polymerization to fuse
Gyroid with the Steamroid in his hand in order to summon
Steam Gyroid and uses it to attack Jaden's Avian.
Jaden then draws a card and
plays polymerization to fuse together Clayman and
Sparkman in order to summon the Elemental Hero Thunder
Giant. Due to its effect, it instantly destroys Syrus's
fusion monster and then Jaden summons Elemental Hero
Burstinatrix and has them finish off Syrus with direct
attacks. Jaden goes over to Syrus and sees that he
could've used Power Bond to gain a strong advantage
against Jaden. Syrus tells Jaden that he isn't good
enough to play the card and runs off. This prompts Chum
Li to go search for Syrus while Jaden is sitting on the
rocks talking to Alexis. They keep talking until Alexis
mentions Sy's older brother Zane. Jaden says to himself
that he's going to duel Zane and try and restore Syrus's
confidence.
