TJ Hill

Robins Nest, Rockford, IL

$1

First gets a pack, the rest get a random card

 July 2007

This deck is hard to explain but I will try my best.

First look at my deck:

3 Woodland Sprite

3 Morphing Jar #2

2 Des Koala

2 Dekoichi the etc.

2 Iron Blacksmith Kotetsu

2 Mask of Darkness

1 Spirit Reaper

3 Black Pendant

3 Ekybio Drakmord

3 Dark Room of Nightmare

1 Swords of Revealing Light

1 Level Limit Area B

1 Premature Burial

2 Wave Motion Cannon

2 Nightmare Steel Cage

1 Gravity Bind

1 Mirror Force

2 Dimension Wall

2 Magical Explosion

1 Magic Cylinder

1 Ring of Destruction

1 Cease Fire

1 Torrential Tribute

Total: 41

SPOILER ALERT: I won my locals with this heaping pile of crap-er...cards.

So I said I would explain this, the first part deck revolves around Des Koala and Morphing Jar #2. Both of them and stall cards (including Ekybio) allows me to use my Koala's effect many times.

The second part starts once my opponent's Life Points are down around 4000, which isn't too difficult with Ring, Cylinder, Dimension Wall, Wave Motion, and Des Koala. With the Morphing Jars, I've collected a nice amount of cards with reusable Blacksmiths, Dekos, and Mask of Darkness(s). I then (get ready for it) summon Woodland Sprite, play as many Dark Room of Nightmares I've gotten my hands on and equip Black Pendants and Ekybio's on Woodland for massive damage.

Here's how:

I offer black pendant for Woodland's effect (500) then Dark room of Nightmare triggers (800). Then Black Pendant activates in the graveyard (1300) then Dark Room activates (1600) offer a new Pendant (Rinse Wash Repeat till 3200) and another one (My deck is designed to find pendants, oh, and that puts you down 4800)

For the record, another Dark Room puts the entire count to 6600.

I also have Ekybio Drakmord to pop as well if they survive.

Me, Jacob, and Will enter together and it turns out that all of us were playing Alternative Win Conditions. We sit and wait for a player to defeat.

Game 1

TJ vs. Will

Oh well, there’s always room to beat Will every now then in a tournament. Unfortunately for Will, he was playing Exodia. His version doesn’t include speed but uses Mystic Tomatoes and Emissary of the Afterlife, which need me to attack to for him to search. He said after the tournament that he didn’t lose to anyone except me.

Round 1

Both of us got pretty ugly hands (and the cards in them). I ended up winning with Wave Motion while he had four pieces of Exodia in his hand and two Emissary of the Afterlife on the field.

Round 2

This round worked exactly like my deck was built for. His face was hilarious after I summoned Woodland Sprite.

Wins 1, Losses Nothin’

Game 2

TJ vs. Nehemiah

I played him after he whooped Jacob (Jacob was playing Destiny Board) and he turned out to be a really cool dude. He was playing Machines, which meant victory was decided by whether he would get his Heavy Storm.

Round 1

So I have a facedown monster and two s/t with 7100 Life points for various reasons (meaning I don’t remember) while he had two facedown monsters and a s/t with the full 8000. He sacs a monster for Blowback Dragon and uses the dragon’s effect on my facedown Ring of Destruction which I chain. He passes and then I pass and he plays Polymerization on his flipped face upped Light Hex Seal Fusion and a Cyber Dragon in his hand for Cyber Twin Dragon.

He attacks my facedown Dekoichi, plays (in hopes of winning) Limiter Removal and attacks again into my facedown Dimension Wall, leaving him with 100 Life Points. We pay our dues to his Cyber Twin and I draw, summon Mask of Darkness, equip Black Pendant to it, and attack into Sakuretsu Armor but it didn’t matter because of my Black Pendant.

Round 2

Once again, my deck works exactly how it was supposed to (on the second round again, too). His machine build didn’t really have any draw power (no Dekos?), which meant he couldn’t dig through his deck for the cards he needed (such as Heavy Storm).

Wins: 1, Losses: Zilch

Game 3

TJ vs. Kevin

This guy (and the other guy in the next round) were the only real competition that came today (aside from myself of course ;-). He was playing Grave Keeper Dark World. I think he expected an easy win today because I don’t go to tournaments that often. He’s in for a surprise, isn’t he?

Round 1

First turn that son of a…er…stinker Nobleman of Crossouted my Des Koala. I still won with a combination of Wave Motion, Cease-fire, and Stalling (apparently Grave Keeper Dark World has problems with Gravity Bind and Morphing Jar #2. Go figure. I always thought that kind of deck never needed a side deck. [For those of you who can’t read sarcastic type, that wasn’t sarcasm at all])

Round 2

I’m starting to like these round two matches. Once again, my deck works perfectly along with Kevin having to deal with the gauntlet that is Morphing Jar #2. He said that he hasn’t seen Woodland Sprite played since Butterfly Dagger was legal, which got me in an argument over whether that combo works. I’m 95% sure that Woodland Sprite and Butterfly Dagger do not work together but I’m willing to be proven wrong. After the Game, he said that next time he sees me there that he would stick Emperors Holidays in his side deck which makes me think a couple of thoughts (cows forbid):

1.       Black Pendant’s burn effect works even while Emperors Holiday is Face-up.

2.       Dark World’s biggest weakness isn’t exactly Equip spell cards

3.       His deck died by stall

4.       My deck didn’t beat him bad enough to specifically side deck against it

5.       What makes him think that I’m going to play the same deck over at locals?

6.       The statement makes sense for the fact that he couldn’t counter my deck, he’s probably side decking against the uber broker Shape Snatch or Butterfly Dagger.

So I really hope he was joking.

Wins: 3, Losses: Nada

While I waited for another Game, Will was playing a little kid with a random beat down deck of some sorts and played Deck Devastation Virus, while Will had 4 pieces of Exodia in his hand! Will still won by stalling and Pot of Avarice, but it was still hilarious (almost as hilarious as winning with Woodland Sprite…nah! Never could happen)

Game 4

TJ vs. Brent

This turned out to be my most formidable match. Brent was playing machines with 2 sets of Gadgets and a few more tricks (although I don’t remember them). This round pretty much meant 1st place even though we had another round after this one because we were the only ones with perfect records He played with lots of brains but didn’t have a good Poker Face, which made him predictable.

Round 1

He gets me stuck with a Cyber Phoenix and Jinzo combo for awhile, which wouldn’t have been too bad except for the fact that I had Gravity Bind and two Ekobyo in my hand. I (luckily) drew Morphing Jar #2 and it went downhill for him from there on.

Round 2

I’m a little cocky because all my round 2’s went perfect, so naturally I got whooped…badly.

Round 3

This was actually a back and forth round (which is hard for a burn deck to accomplish, usually I know whether I’m going to win from about the 2nd or 3rd turn.) He didn’t shuffle my deck very well because I ended up getting all three Morphing Jars, which got me the cards I needed.

Wins: 4, Losses: Big O

Game 5

TJ vs. Brian

I knew I was at least in the top 2 (there were like 18 people there) so I didn’t care who I played. Brian said he wanted to play me (such a huge honor). He was going 2-2 with a Dark World deck.

Round 1

Whoa! What happened? A relentless slaughter of evil minions schooled me. Okay, I didn’t die that bad but it was a big surprise. At least he didn’t see a Woodland Sprite. I always enjoy the surprise factor.

Round 2

It’s funny. This was the only game I got Heavy Stormed, but I still won even though he destroyed both Wave Motion Cannons and a Dimension Wall. Woodland combo for the win!

Round 3

Just like my previous Round 2’s, It went horrible wrong! For Brian, I mean.

Wins 5, Losses: Zerolopagus (yes that is a real word because I pressed “allow” on my Spell Checker)

Woodland Wins

 Yay!

I get my awesome first prize of a Booster pack, Jacob lost only 3 times, and I trade Will for some Dark World stuff. It turned out to be a good day.

Props:

-          Winning with a Woodland Sprite Deck

-          Winning with Woodland Sprite deck against some pretty good players

-          Some pretty good trades

-          Exodia’s power being so great, that it overcomes Deck Devastation Virus. (But not Woodland Sprite)

-          The awesomeness of the word Zerolopagus

Slops:

-          Pulling a Firewall from my pack

-          Jacob lost 3 times somehow even though he was playing Destiny Board

-          Spending money on 4 Zane packs and not getting a Chimeratech or a Cyberdark or a Cyber Phoenix or a Cyber Dragon (okay the last one was far fetched but I was still a little disappointed, I did get a Ruthless Denial.)

-          The lack of puns in my report. That’s definitely not punny.
