 Yugioh Tournament Reports

From: Jason Reeves

Subject: Duel South of the Masson-Dixon, Local MS Tourney, Jason Reeves atthe Computer Place

Sheeut! We got us sum good old fashioned thowdowns taday down hear in Mississippi.

Ok enough with the redneck lingo. My head hurts from dumbing myself low enough to spell some of those words. ANYWAY! We do having running water down here in the south, and we even have electricity. We also have a Saturday Tournament at The Computer Place in Brookhaven, MS. The turnout is good, but not too high. The prizes are small, but that is not why we play. Anyway, we had out tournament today and only a handfull showed up, BUT it was at least some of the better handfulls that show up every Saturday. We had about 10-12 (like I said, not too many).

We play in double elim. single round matches. Winner moves on, and loser moves to the losers bracket. The champions of the losers and winners face each other for $5 and a pack of cards, while second place gets a pack (like I said, kinda small, but fun).

Here is how the tournament ran. First the deck:

Monsters: 21
1 x Mobius
2 x Zaborg
1 x Jinzo
2 x Cyber Dragon
1 x Treeborn Frog
1 x Sangan
1 x Breaker the Magical Warrior
2 x Exiled Force
1 x Spirit Reaper
1 x Magician of Faith
1 x Injection Fairy Lily
3 x Nimble Mamongo
2 x Apprentice Magicians
2 x Old Vendictive Magicians

Spells: 12
1 x Graceful Charity
1 x Nobleman of Crossout
1 x Premature Burial
1 x MST
1 x Heavy Storm
1 x Last Will
1 x Swords of Revealing Light
1 x Smashing Ground
2 x Creature Swap
1 x Scapegoats
1 x Book of Moon

Traps: 7
1 x Ring of Destruction
1 x Mirror Force
1 x Torrential Tribute
2 x Sakuretsu Armor
2 x Bottomless Trap Hole

Side:
3 x Kuriboh
1 x Ceasefire
1 x Magic Cylinder
2 x Des Wombat
2 x Magic Jammer
3 x Threatening Roar
1 x Sakuretsu Armor
2 x Thestalos the Firestorm Monarch

Anyway, thats the list. Here is how the tournament progressed.

Me vs. Daniel F. - Adrenaline Beatdown deck Daniel is an old friend of mine and to play him first round can go either way for us. He knocks me for a quick loop and has me at 2500 thanks to a direct hit from a Chainsaw Insect and Goblin Attack Force, while he is at 11,000 thanks to Nimble Mamongas. And that is where his charge stalled. I clear his field with Zaborg and with a little help from flying frogs, I summon Jinzo and attack directly in an open field to bring him back to earth. After that, his defenses crumbled and he was top decking. GG Daniel.
Me: 8000-7200-4800-2500-2400-3400
Daniel: 8000-9000-11000-10700-5900-2750-200-0

1-0

Me vs. ToeJoh (Adam O'Malley) - Stall Burn This one is my cousin. A bit closer than cousins because after his mom passed away, he came to live with my mom, making him kinda my brother. Its a wierd family thing (not like "I'm my own grandpa" kinda wierd, thats in Arkansas). He makes a mistake first turn that cost him the duel. He plays 4 stall cards and 1 FD monster. I drew Heavy Storm on my opening hand, so I clobbered his backfield and flipped a FD Magician of Faith to get Heavy back. He drew into no new stall as my monsters and monarchs killed everything in my way. GG
Me: 8000-7000
ToeJoh: 8000-7700-6100-4500-0

2-0

Me vs. Brandon - E-Hero, but not a bad deck anyway This has got to be one of the best played E-Hero decks out there. It is a themed e-hero deck. Polymerizations and all, but it is played STUPID WELL!!
But, it fell short today. I get out some heavy hitters early and Creature Swap works its magic with Magician of Faith. All in all a short duel.
Me: 8000-7000-6000-5800
Brandon: 8000-7000-3400-1300-0

3-0

Me vs. BOREDOM!
Now I had to wait for the losers bracket to catch up. I waited on three rounds to be played before they got back to me. I am assured a possition at the last dance, but it take what seems like forever. Mainly due to Adam;s Stall Burn deck.

BONUS REVIEW! Adam vs. Raphael (Chimeratech OTK) Adam had already beaten Raphael earlier in the day 8000 to nill, but this one dragged on forever. With 5600 LP for Adam, and 6800 LP for Raphael, Adam plays Lava Golem and brings Raphael to 5800. Raphael plays Creature Swap and gives Adam back his Lava Golem. Now Adam has 5 turns to end this game. He has 2 Wavemotion Cannons at 2 and 1 counter. Raphael plays Giant Trunade and summons a 6400 Chimeratech dragon. Adam chains Threatening Roar to Giant Trunade and is saved. Next turn he plays Sword of Revealing Light and 1 Wave Motion Cannon. Adam is at 4600, then 3600, then 2600. Wave Motion Cannon has
2 counters on it, and after some burn, Raphael has 2800 LP remaining. Adam pops WMC to leave Raphael with 800 and adam has 1600. Raphael draws and Adam activates Ceasefire for game. It was a definate squeaker and Adam advanced to the semifinals against Brandon to decide who would play me. So onto that.

Me vs. Brandon (same as before)
Brandon had made it back to the finals after fighting out of the losers bracket. He went to work fusing a NUMBER of monsters but the main threat was Rampart Blaster. It hit for 5 unanswered turns. Jinzo was on the field, so my traps were dead in the water. GG Me
Me: 8000-7000-6200-5800-5600-4600-3600-2600-1600-0
Brandon: 8000-7200-4800-3800

3-1 BUT it is double elimination, so he has to beat me twice. I STILL LIVE!

Me vs. Brandon FINALS!
Brandon and I have had some epic duels before. Close shaves and the like.
This one has to be one of the most grueling tasks to have ever been undertaken by the two of us. It all came down to me having 400 LP and him having 1150 after a trounsing by IFL. He had 3 scapegoats on the field and Jinzo. I had Zaborg, and 2 Scapegoats. I turned one scapegoat into attack position and played Creature Swap giving him that token. He had a dilema. He wanted to give me a token, but it would make no difference. In the end he gave me the token. I rammed Zaborg into the token taking game in the last effort. YEAH!
Me: 8000-7200-2800-400
Brandon: 8000-6550-2150-1150-0

4-1

Props: To Mr. Freels as always for holding the tourney.
Winning the tournament after a full month of not dueling.
Watching Adam defeat Raphael twice with a deck I designed.

Slops: None really
Pulled crap from the pack I won, gave it to Daniel.

Until next time, cya later and if ya decide to go swimmin in the crick, make sure ya make lots a noise when ya firs get in, that should scare off the gators. Should anyway.

Bye from Brookhaven.
