Stupid Zork… always rolling six when I need one or two! Hell to him!

Huh? Oh, hey! Heh… don’t mind that. Just kinda mad at Zork… lazy bugger. Anyway, welcome to Shugotenshi Kintaro’s tourney report. J As usual, I’m reporting from Downtown Comics, which has been getting a bit more of a crowd as of late, which is pretty cool. To be honest, I haven’t been able to put as much time into my reports and YuGiOh due to college and the endless studies that slowly rot my mind. :P Hopefully, I’ll be able to manage my time a bit better and put more effort into these things.

Well, onto the report!

I tried running Zork again, just until the bans. With the near-100% chance banning of BLS, D Duo, Mirror and Ring (well, maybe not Mirror. It could be skipped, but I doubt it), I’ve decided to put more effort into my Silence deck for the bans, whatever they may be. It runs smoothly, very fast, and can get out the bigger hitters without much trouble. But I do wish I ran it this week. Zork did good, but he could of done better. Well, here’s the deck:

Monsters: 17

2x Dark Master Zork
3x Manju
1x DmoC
1x Jinzo
3x DDA
1x DDWL
1x TIV
1x Breaker
1x Sangan
1x Sserpent
1x Cyber Jar
1x Morphing Jar

Magic: 18
2x Dark Master Ritual
1x Pot of Greed
1x Graceful Charity
1x Premature Burial
1x Snatch Steal
1x MST
1x Heavy Storm
2x Nobleman of Crossout
2x Book of Moon
2x Enemy Controller
2x Scapegoat
1x Lightning Vortex
1x Card Destruction

Trap: 6

1x Call of the Haunted
1x Mirror Force
1x Ring of D
1x Torrential Tribute
1x Ceasefire
1x Royal Decree

Total: 41

Not much different, but I added Card Destruction for a bit more speed. No real side-deck this time, but I did have one rigged up to change into my Silence deck, or a variant of it anyway. Had nothing but the Silence families and support, and I never even used it til after the tourney, so I won’t bother putting it in this week. Well… that and I can’t remember what it is and have a totally new side-deck made. :P

Earlier the week, I had bought a Gilford tin and it wasn’t too bad of a pull. Got him, an IO, Nercovalley, and a Lightning Vortex! Can’t complain about that! Now I have all the cards I need to build a completely separate Undead deck, which is what I wanted for a long time.

Since school and university/college had started back up, a few people who were regulars had returned from their summer vacation. That was good, cause more people is great! But it’s also bad, cause these guys were really good. :P There was Bradley, who runs a very well maintained Fiend deck, and Chris (different one from last week), who runs a Doraido deck. Doesn’t sounds great, I know, but it’s well built, and can wipe you out without much thought or effort. Trust me on this one… Damn Doober… :P (about 7 people will understand that, but it’s worth it!)

Not a whole lot happened before the tourney started, so I’ll get right to it.

Round One:

Me (Zork) vs. Xero (Mechs)

Out of all the people I had to duel, Xero’s first! Not that it’s a bad thing, but his deck has been getting the most boosts and help with the last few sets; AGG, Cyber Dragons, Cyberstein, and a ton more. His deck has always been good, but now with all the weaponry he has now, and all the… old school weaponry I have, it was going to be an interesting duel.

Duel One:

Me: 8000-6600-3900-2200

Xero: 8000-6600-3900-2200-500-0

An early ring of D to a Dekoichi set the pace of the game, followed by wipe the field & attack turns for both of us, then another ring of D to one of my DDAs. By this time, our hands had been exhausted, but a couple shots in with another DDA got me the win.

Duel Two:

Me: 8000- 6400-5900-4300-3300-0

Xero: 8000-6400-4800-3800-2200-3200-2400

Another give and take duel, as both of us getting in a fair amount of hits in as the duel progressed. But after a while, Xero gained advantage with a Blowback, destroying my Snatch Steal that had his Jinzo. A double attack from them shut me up. :P

Duel Three:

Me: 8000-6800

Xero: 8000-7000 (Winner by Time Out)

This duel was short! Four turns! :P By the time we had finished our second duel, we had a minute left. So, quickly, we started the third duel. I got in a quick shot with a Sangan and put up some defense. Zero put up some defense and I foolishly attacked it, cause it was a Gear Golem the Moving Fortress. Time ran out and I loss by 200 points! Gah! I don’t mind losing, but let me lose with a fight dammit! :P

Quickly, I was shot into Round Two:

Me (Zork) vs. Tyler (Gravekeepers)

Yep, it’s Jan’s son again. I’m not complaining that I had to fight him, cause he’s a good kid and fun to duel with, and me and his dad are good friends, but while couldn’t I take on a newb for a round? I needed a quick and easy win to get my confidence up again! :P

Duel One:

Me: 8000-7000-6600

Tyler: 8000-7900-3500-2500-0

It was nothing but pure rush in this duel, with my Manjus, DDAs, and Breaker crashing through all of Tyler’s defenses. He managed to get rid of my mons with a combo of Sangan and Torrential, but a quick Zork ditching with DmoC got me the win.

Duel Two:

Me: 8000-7000-5900-4900-3800-2700-700-0

Tyler: 8000-6300-5300-4200

Umm…. You ever get ran over by Christmas shoppers on Christmas Eve? Well, that’s how I felt this duel. Nothing but Spear Soldiers, Assailants and Spies. I tried to put up a fight, but it was no use. Poor DDA… she never stood a chance.

Duel Three:

Me: 8000-7000

Tyler: 8000-5300-3900-1100

Zork, Zork and more Zork! He nuked everything! Got a clean win thanks to him and Call of the Haunted. (stupid 6…)

Again, not much else happened between duels, so I’ll just go to Duel Three.

Round Three:

Me (Zork) vs. Matthew (Earth-Beasts)

Good ol’ Matthew! If there’s anyone I can relate to when it comes to non-CC deck-types, it’s him. He ran Light, Creator, Warrior, and had the Silent Swordsman before me. He’s also a much better deck-builder than me, and this duel is a good example.

Duel One:

Me: 8000-7000-5300-3100-0

Matt: 8000-7000

Yeah, this duel wasn’t that great. My hand really sucked, with only a Jinzo and a bunch of M/T. I set a Scapegoat and ended, and then I started to get hit by E Battle Ox. What really made me want to smack myself was I had an EC in my hand, but I never took advantage of it. Either my mind was somewhere else, or I just lost it in the first place, but Matt took advantage of my lack of field and got a quick win. : )

Duel Two:

Me: 8000-7000-6000-5000

Matt: 8000-7200-6600-7600-2500

It was pretty even throughout the duel, with each of us taking a far share of hits, until I had dropped Zork and a few small mons for a rush which Matt couldn’t recover from.

Duel Three:

Me: 8000-7400-8400-4000-0

Matt: 8000-8600-5900

I can’t really remember what happened in this one. Lots of trampling and I know I couldn’t get a good defense up, thanks to Matt’s BTHs and EBOs. A huge rush of EBO, Giant Rat and Chiron finished me off with one quick brush.

Yeah, a one of two record! I rock! :P I knew my day was done, so I say down and had a good chat with the guys, traded a bit, had some fun duels and played some YGO DS. Kinda boring day to be honest. Not cause of the tourney itself, cause it was actually very exciting, but I guess I had a lot on my mind with school and the like, so I never paid much attention. :P I did ditch Zork afterwards and began to work out my final version of my Silence deck, which I only finished about an hour ago. Anyway, to the slops and props:
Props:

- Seeing Xero and Jan duke it out in the finals. Soul Control vs. Mechs!

- Selling a Winged Kuriboh for 5 bucks. :P

- Arranging a trade with Derek for some promos he wants.

- Seeing old vets returning to the game!

- That’s about it.

Slops:

- Me being so damned distracted. Stupid college…

- Zork letting me down.

- Not getting any real new cards, except for a Guardian Sphinx.

- Having a lack of energy for this review.

That’s about it. I know it’s not a whole lot, and I do try to make these things as exciting as possible, but my week’s been pretty wild, and I’ve had to put more energy into my studies, more than anything else. Hopefully, next week will be more eventful and I’ll write a kick arse review! Well, either that or become a mod at Pojo! … Like that’s going to happen. :P

If you have any comments, love/hate mail, or whatever, you can e-mail me at ShugotenchiKintaro@hotmail.com

Until next week readers!

P.S. There may be a new column in these reports next week called “What not to do.” My friends know what I’m talking about. :P Thanks for reading!
