Here is my report on the Nationals in the Netherlands. I did very well,
I actually won the tournament.

I am going to Japan, and I hope to finally meet some great duelists from the States.

National Championship The Netherlands - Guan Her Ng
Location: Duinrell
Date: 23 & 24 of April 2005
Participants: about 128 people
Goals: to become National Champion and travel to Japan

I didn't do that well at the National Qualifiers. This did really give me a
lack of confidence at Nationals.
I started to run a Cookie Cutter Chaos deck at the first Qualifier in
Alkmaar. It was still March, thus I ran
a Advanced format 1 deck. I choose to run this deck, because it had succes
at the Blue Eyes White X-mas last year.

17 monsters
bls
jinzo
airknight
2x magican of faith
3x dd warrior lady
tribe
berserk gorilla
fiber jar
blade knight
sinister serpent
breaker
kycoo
spirit reaper
magical scientist

5 traps:
waboku
torrential tribute
call of the haunted
ring of destruction
bottemless traphole

18 magic
heavy storm
mystical space typhoon
mirage of nightmare
emergency provisions
swords of revealing light
2x scapgoat
enemy controller
confiscation
metamorphosis
book of moon
premature burial
painful choice
pot of greed
nobleman of crossout
forceful sentry
change of heart
snatch steal

sideboard:
royal decree
enemy controller
pyramid turtle
v-lord
2x raigeki break
giant trunade
2x sasuke samurai
Mobius the frost monarch
kinetic soldier
exiled force
emergency provisions
2x Enraged battle ox

But at this small tournament, everybody ran a CC Chaos Deck. It was basicly
dueling against myself. I had a bad run.
I lost 2 rounds of the 5 rounds out of Swissh. My brother had a better run.
He'd qualified himself with almost the same
deck. He just lost one match. Good for him. I really wanted him to qualifie.
He's always very focussed, maybe sometimes
a bit stressed out. But he will eventually become a very great duelist.

This loss meant that I had to qualifie at a different location. This next
qualifier I participated was in Zoetermeer.
It was 2nd of April, and too bad, Metagame didn't give any inspiration of
the new decks from the Shonen Jump tournament.
I decided to run a Chaos Warrior deck, with a lot of quickplay spellcards.

"Chaoswarrior"

17 monsters:

1x Black luster soldier envoy of the beginning
1x Jinzo
1x tribe infecting virus
1x sinister serpent
1x sangan
1x dd warrior lady
1x breaker the magical warrior
1x blade knight
2x dd assailant
2x kycoo the ghost destroyer
3x magician of faith
1x apprentice magician

6 traps:

1x call of the haunted
1x mirror force
1x torrential tribute
1x ring of destruction
1x bottomless traphole
1x sakuretsu armor

17 magic:

1x pot of greed
1x graceful charity
1x delinquent duo
1x premature burial
1x snatch steal
1x heavy storm
1x mystical space typhoon
1x nobleman of crossout
1x lightning vortex
1x smashing ground
1x book of moon
3x enemy controller
3x scapegoat

sideboard:
15 cards

2x royal decree
2x pikeru's circle of enchantment
1x dust tornado
2x mobius the frost monarch
1x mystic swordsman lv2
1x sasuke samurai
1x hand of nephthys
1x sacred phoenix of nephthys
1x enraged battle ox
1x exiled force
2x newdoria

If I look at this deck again right now, I would say half of this deck was
warrior, and the other half was spellcaster. LOLZ!
Anyways, I really went well at this tournament. 5 rounds of swissh and I won
all 5 of them. And after that we went for the
knock-out. Best of 16 were qualified for this knock-out. And basicly if you
won the first round you were qualified for the
nationals.
But the factor of luck was not at my side in this first round. After this
match I really realised how broken this format
is. Pot of Greed, Graceful Charity and Delinquent duo are the best cards
that you want to recycle from the grave and use
it again. Well, if somebody can use delinquent duo twice on you just in his
first two turns, it will kill your hand
"BIG TIME". This really happened. He played delinquent duo twice. Owned by a
god hand. Okay no problem, I will try my
best the second duel. Again he had a God-Hand. Pot of greed and graceful
charity, with a magician of faith to recycle.
I had a bad hand. I got owned by the luck-factor.

I went home with a bad feeling. This format is broken. I didn't have the
rythm yet of this new format. I just didn't know
how to play out my cards yet. Behind my pc I went to Metagame.com. And there
it was, the top 8 decks of ShonenJump.
Zombie/Chaos? Why didn't I play it before in Advanced Format 1? There was
Evan Vergas that played a Archtype.
Soulcontrol!, this deck is really interesting. I really wanted to build it
and try it out. In two days I had all the cards
and I playtested it. The deck has nasty topdecking. Topdecking is very
important, it's because of delinquent duo and
graceful charity. I just know that my deck that I played in Zoetermeer
wasn't good enough, because there was no deckthinning.

I tested two decks. Soul control and Zombie/Chaos, and ended up to choose
for the zombie/chaos. I played it at the
special Qualifier at the Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, next to the big
Procircuit event of Vs. System. Yugioh was just
an side-event. I went straight for 5 rounds and in the fifth round I played
against my teammate Michael Smits (he will
eventually become number 4 of the Netherlands). Michael Smits is Master
Burner. He plays Burn Lockdown. He never really
played a different deck. Anyways, to secure me for the Nationals he let me
win. I eventually lost this game by poor
decisions that I made. Example: I know he plays with des koala, why did I
kept my hand and attack it with Kycoo??
Anyways, I thanked him by giving the half of the boosters that I got from
this tournament.

Just two more weeks to go, and I wanted to test more and more.

Zombie Aggro controllee 10 April 2005

16 monsters:
1x Blackluster soldier-Envoy of the beginning
2x Vampire Lord
3x Pyramid Turtle
1x Spirit Reaper
2x Magician Of Faith
1x D.D. Warrior Lady
1x Blade Knight
1x Kycoo The Ghost Destroyer
1x Breaker The Magical Warrior
1x Tribe-Infecting Virus
1x Sangan
1x Sinister Serpent

7 Traps:
1x Call Of The Haunted
1x Mirror Force
1x Torrential Tribute
1x Ring of Destruction
1x Bottemless Traphole
2x Sakuretsu Armor

17 Magic:
1x Pot Of Greed
1x Graceful Charity
1x Delinquent Duo
2x Nobleman Of Crossout
1x Smashing Ground
1x Lightning Vortex
1x Premature Burial
1x Book Of Life
1x Heavy Storm
1x Mystical Space Typhoon
2x Scapegoat
1x Enemy Controller
1x Book Of Moon
1x Snatch Steal
1x Creature Swap

I decided to test against a good chaos-deck. I found out that creature swap
and book of life are a bit nasty in this deck.
I got four reasons for it. Creature swap is good only when I am in
advantage. This means I have a monster on the field to
swap with. Second reason is that the metagame is swarmed with scapegoats. To
eventually get a scapegoat isn't really nice.
The third reason I want to point out is that I just have 16 monsters to swap
with, and that only 9 cards that I want to
swap with you. This is a bit small amount. The last thing about creature
swap is that it is a bad topdeck.
Book of life isn't that bad as creature swap. I just thought that to really
use book of life it would eventually be in
mid-game. with just 6 zombies? would that be a enough? and 3 of them that I
want to bring back for advantage?

I want to make this deck better in topdecking and even more aggro. Finnally
I made this my National deck, I call it the
Zombie-Chaos-Aggro deck:

16 monsters:
1x Blackluster soldier-Envoy of the beginning
2x Vampire Lord
3x Pyramid Turtle
1x Spirit Reaper
2x Magician Of Faith
1x D.D. Warrior Lady
1x Blade Knight
1x Kycoo The Ghost Destroyer
1x Breaker The Magical Warrior
1x Tribe-Infecting Virus
1x Sangan
1x Sinister Serpent

8 Traps:
1x Call Of The Haunted
1x Mirror Force
1x Torrential Tribute
1x Ring of Destruction
2x Bottemless Traphole
2x Sakuretsu Armor

16 Magic:
1x Pot Of Greed
1x Graceful Charity
1x Delinquent Duo
2x Nobleman Of Crossout
1x Smashing Ground
1x Lightning Vortex
1x Premature Burial
1x Metamorphosis
1x Heavy Storm
1x Mystical Space Typhoon
2x Scapegoat
1x Enemy Controller
1x Book Of Moon
1x Snatch Steal

I kicked in a Metamorphosis. A tech card that I use on my tokens, sinister,
faiths and V-lord. It eventually went very good
at the tournament with this card. I also wanted to play a extra bottemless
traphole. This card is just very good
against the metagame that I expected. Chaoswarrior, burn and other
archtypes, Horus/chaos, Phoenix-decks and Machines.
Also, I just think that this format made Jinzo weaker. No Painfulchoice is
very good. I just thought, why couldn't I just
play 8 traps??

My side-deck was very effective at the tournament. I could change my deck
into a pure aggro/control deck or into a
anti-burn deck.
15 cards
1x jinzo
2x mobius the frost monarch
2x dust tornado
1x raigeki break
1x pikuru's circle of enchantment
1x barrel behind the door
2x mystic swordsma lv2
1x exiled force
2x newdoria
2x dd assaillant

The first 10 cards are just against burn/lockdown decks or any stall decks.
Exiled force, newdorias and dd assailants are
against the typical Horuslock decks or decks where I think that needs a bit
more control. Like against Zombie decks I need
dd assailants.

I had two guests in house on friday evening. I couldn't get enought sleep
because my friend Mathijs was snorring like hell
in my room. Anyways, I stood up in de middle of the night and went
downstairs. I slept on the sofa. I'll never do that again.
The doorbell rang around 6:45 in the morning. I got up to open the door. I
was totally wasted. We had some tea, and slowly
everybody (Ivan, Michael, Jimmy, Mick, Konstantin, Mathijs, my younger
brother Timmie and I) was ready to go!

We played some matches in the train and ended up seeing our bus driving away
in front of us at Leiden Central station. That
is so typical for us to do that. We arrived just in time and we all applied
and we started to play some casual matches.

First Round:
Me VS. Chaos/burn/Metamorph
First I thought I was playing against a typical chaosdeck, but afterwards it
was a combi deck. I know this is gonna be a
tuff match. I know that I've played against a typical deck before at the
Benelux Cup in Belgium. After I won the first duel
I sideboarded a dust tornado and a mobius the frost monarch. This duel went
pretty easy, because I started with mobius and
he started to put two wave motion cannons on the field.
Win! 2-0

Second round:
Me VS. I can't remember
This game I can't remember anymore. It was a win, I am sorry that I can't
recall this game from my memory.
Win! 2-0

Third round:
Me VS. I can't remember
This game I can't remember anymore. It was a win, I am sorry that I can't
recall this game from my memory.
Win! 2-0

Fourth round:
Me VS. Pim
This round was a bit tuff, he eventually won because of delinquent duo twice
in the third duel. Lost to a God-Hand.!
Loss! 1-2

Fifth round:
Me VS. I can't remember
This game I can't remember anymore. It was a win, I am sorry that I can't
recall this game from my memory.
Win! 2-0

Sixth round:
Me VS. Xun (horus/chaos)
This pimp is one of the best duelist I know, this match is gonna be tuff. I
already know that my current deck will not beat
him. His Chaos/Horus is just too powerful. He uses metamorphosis like he's
the pioneer of it. Anyways I lost the first duel
he eventually had 14.800 life points. This was because I couldn't do
anything, but just snatch stealing his thousand eyes
restrict and he brought out another one in the game.
The second round I side-decked against his deck. 2x dd assailant, 2x
newdoria, 1x exiled force. I threw out a v-lord some
traps, because he ran two royal decree's. and I didn't want to run so many
pyramid turtles anymore. I reduced my traps to 5.
I won the second duel, while we were topdecking I noticed that he had a
deckchange. He didn't run Horus anymore. So this was
chaos/warrior against aggro/control!... my god!!!
The third duel was even more intense. He ended up topdecking first because I
played delinquent duo, and he lost blackluster
and premature burial. So he eventually snatched my v-lord and morphed it
into dark balter. He had 2300 lifepoints and I had
1500. He attacked my newdoria with balter. I had a metamorph, sinister and I
topdecked Tribe infecting virus. Here I made my
biggest mistake in my whole Yugioh-carreer. I played sinister in ATK
position, activated metamorph. HOW stupid? Balter's
second effect was negate normal spellcards by paying 1000 lifepoints!.. I
also could've play tribe instead... HOW STUPID!!
He would topdecked premature burial.. and brought abbys soldier on the field
and killed my tribe, whil I still had a
metamorphosis and a sinister. I would have won this duel!... Too bad!
Loss! 1-2

Seventh round:
Me VS. Leo Choi (zombie/chaos)
Oh god, I have to face him every big tournament. He also had 2 losses and
had a bad day like me. Well, I think this match
was quite interesting. Because he was probably running Eric Wu's
Zombie/chaos. 2 creature swaps, dust tornado and book of life
are just the different cards he used. I ended up winning the first game. he
wasn't topdecking good enough in my opinion.
Second match he had a god hand from here to tokyo!!!. Pot of greed, graceful
charity, delinquent duo!.. you know what that
means. I lost pretty quick.
Third match was quite intense, but I kept my snatch steal to the last
moment. He also kept snatch quite a while. I suddenly
attacked with my v-lord and after that he snatched it and try to attack me,
but he hit tokens. I was gaining lifepoints again
and he was topdecking. I snatched it back and brought out blackluster and he
was dead!..
Win! 2-1

Okay that was Day 1. I didn't do that good. 5 wins and 2 losses. We all went
home tired, and almost everybody from Team
Haarlem had 5 wins and 2 losses. I ended up 15th in the ranking for today.

Day 2, we all had to wake up at 7, and I didn't sleep in my room, I slept in
our studio-room. I really had a good night sleep
and I had to do my best today to get into the final 8!

Eight round:
Me VS. Daniel Shek Chaos/beatdown
This Match was won by his cyber jar, but eventually I could handle his luck.
Every game he started with graceful charity.
Also he always started with setting cyberjar. I was running 2 nobleman of
crossout in maindeck, but I just could remove his
cyberjar in the first game. Luckly, because I hate it when cyberjar's effect
goes off.
Second match he again had graceful charity and why not? cyberjar again??,
this time I didn't remove it, and chaos begun and
he started to beatdown me like hell. I lost the second match.
The final match, again he had graceful and cyberjar. Unbelievable, how could
I shuffle his deck like that? I kept my hand
closely and finished him off while he was topdecking. My Vampire lord did
his work very well. He wasted two mass trap removal
mirror force and torrential tribute. I didn't quite understand why he did
that. But there were more cards I couldn't
understand why he played them. Like skilled white magician, skilled dark
magacian, that plant, light monster that can change
his attribute.
Win! 2-1

Ninth round:
Me Vs. I forgot his name again. (chaos/asurapriest)
I call it asurapriest, because I remember he attacked with it in the first
match, he killed my facedown magician of faith
and he committed suicide on v-lord. I couldn't really understand why he did
that. First round was a easy win.
He grabbed his sideboard, and I thought, well, I didn't bump into a big
trouble so I decided not to sideboard at all.
This game was even eassier than the first one, this was because of my
nobleman of crossouts and my bottemless trapholes. He
eventually topdecked a card and he looked into his graveyard. I could see
his problem immediatly, he was thinking my lights?
where are my light monsters? so I decided to morph my v-lord into a reaper
on the nightmare and attacked him directly and
YOOOSH! he had to discard black luster. This was my best move at the whole
tournament. I eventually morph back into a
darkbalter. He activated warrior returning alive. I saw him taking back
blackluster, and after a few seconds I realised I
made a big mistake again with darkbalter I could negated his effect. STUPID
me... but it didn't matter anymore, I had snatch
steal, sakuretsu armor, all to kick off his lifepoints to zero!!
Win! 2-0

Final Round:
Me Vs. Tom v/d Dop (Silentswordsman/chaos)
Tom had already 8 wins and I had to win this game to get into the playoffs.
Tom is very skilled, he plays very solid and
knows what he's doing. The first game eventually was mine. He couldn't get
rid of my v-lords. Second game was all his.
I played Lightning vortex on his tokens and shining angel and he chained
with book of moon on shining angel. This was the
bad point of this game. I know if I attacked shining angel, he'll special
summon silent swordsman lv3 and eventually in his
standby phase it will turn into a silent swordsman lv 6. This game was all
his.
We had 7 minutes left, and we asked the judges whether Tom was already
qualified for the playoffs or not. If Tom was,
he would give me a win, because we both hated the idea of playing a
timelimit game. Both of our decks needed time to run to
it's fullest. But the judges didn't know. So, we played our most intense
game of the whole tournament. It was time to side-
board in my barrel behind the door and my pikuru's circle of enchantment. I
hoped these cards could help me.
I drew a scapegoat, I was thinking, that's a life safier!, but eventually he
knocked me off twice with enemy controller.
In the end I had the final turn with blackluster, snatch steal on his token,
brought out a 4starred fusion monster to put
blade knight in my grave as a light for blackluster. It was insane he, had
only sinister and two silent swordsman lv6 left
in his hand. I won this MATCH!!! Tom was qualified anyways!
Win! 2-1

TOP 8 duelists of the National Championship of The Netherlands:
1 Xun Yu Chen
2 Tom van den Dop
3 Vincent Wielandt
4 Maikel Harpal
5 Michael Smits
6 Guan Her Ng
7 Sharief Mohamedradja
8 Yik de Laat

1-8 2-7 3-6 4-5

Me Vs. Vincent Wielandt (chaos/control)
Like the playoffs in the NBA! hehehe, anways I had to face Vincent. This
match was a big unforgetable. I know Vincent quite
well, he has a solid deck and his skills are very good. But I had confidence
that I could beat him. First round was all his.
I drew, vortex, heavy storm, mystical space typhoon, sakuretsu armor and a
spirit reaper. It wasn't a bad till he played
nobleman of crossout on my reaper and attacked with his sangan. I couldn't
do anything by just waiting. I drew bottemless
traphole. He heavy stormed my both traps. I couldn't do anything then just
wait wait wait. His lifepoints 8000, my lifepoints
zero!.. If this is going to be the same in the second game, then I will be
doomed. But God gave me a God-hand!,, my first
Godhand of the tourney. I appologised Vincent of this cruel hand. Pot of
greed, graceful charity (with sinister) and
delinquent duo!. He couldn't do anything about it.
Third match was also in my favor. I activated pot of greed and later on my
magician of faith came while my v-lord was on the
field. He couldn't do anything about it. In the end i played pot of greed 3
times. He was doomed.
Win! 2-1

Me Vs. Michael Smits (Burnlockdown)
This match was the most funniest one I every played. Michael is one of my
teammembers from Haarlem. He plays lockdown burn
as he was meant for it. He always turn up with another stallcard if you
destroy one. Okay, the first game went like
yata-garasu picked down his lifepoints. I eventually could remove about 75%
of his monsters with nobleman of crossout's and
bottemlesstrapholes. Blackluster soldier did his work pretty well. So I
picked down his lifepoints with Magician of faith,
sinister serpent and spirit reaper. without drawing any heavy storm of
mystical spacetyphoon I lost this game with 2600
lifepoints at his side and zero at my side!..
It's time to metamorph my whole deck! I threw out all my zombies and my
scapegoats. I put in
1x jinzo
2x mobius the frost monarch
2x dust tornado
1x raigeki break
1x pikuru's circle of enchantment
1x barrel behind the door
2x mystic swordsma lv2
1x exiled force
1x newdoria
I just need to draw correctly and hope for the best. The second game was
starting slowly. I attacked with my swordsman early
and he tried to get rid of it, but I had sakuretu armor. I wasn't affraid
against big burns, because I had pikeru. It went
downhill for him when I brought out mobius. He had to topdeck and he
topdecked ring of destruction, which wasn't enough to
kill me or both of us.
Third game was all mine. he was topdecking in the 3rd turn. I had delinquent
duo, mystic swordsman, barrelbehind the door,
mobius the frost monarch and breaker. I ended up breaking his barrel behind
the door and attacked with mobius and breaker,
I just topdecked ring of destruction, together with barrel behind the door,
it was over for him.
Win! 2-1

FINALS!!!!!!
Me Vs. Sharief Mohamedradja
Sharief is a good pal of mine. He plays solid and I borrowed him a jinzo to
pimp up his deck. I actually saw this game as
an weekly match we had. I've played against him for quite a few times in
casual and competition matches. I had control of the
game all the time. Both games were mine. I set my traps and his monsters
were kept running into it. In the end I removed
a lot of monsters that he even couldn't summom Blackluster on the field.
V-lord finished the job and I won.
Win! 2-0

I still couldn't believe that I am the Dutch Champ 2005!... It would be
totally different if Xun didn't lost against Yik
de Laat by time limit. Sharief with his GodHand twice against Tom v/d Dop
was just too good to be true.

Final top 8:
1 GuanHer Ng (myself)
2 Sharief Mohameddradja
3 Yik de Laat
4 Michael Smits
5-8
Xun Yu Chen
Tom van den Dop
Vincent Wielandt
Maikel Harpal

Positive things: I won the tournament, I am going to receive a lot of fame,
I am going to Japan, I am having a great time of
my life!!! Michael Smits making the fourth place of the Netherlands.
Received an iPod 60GB PC + Mac, excl. Champ T-shirt,
Nationals Trofee, Millenium Item Trofee, boosterbox DR1 and a Champion
certificate.

Negative things: Xun didn't make it to the finals, Jerry disqualifed, Rajin
playing against god hands, Timmie not making the
playoffs. My FiendDeck got stolen. Constantin and Mathijs didn't do that
good at the tournament. I made a big mistake against
Xun.
