Beatdown Control_Paul R_TBS Comics - Paul Reinhardt

Beatdown Control

"by" Paul Reinhardt

TBS Comics, Pensacola, FL

4/30/05

10 people

$3 entree, Swiss for 3 rounds then top 2

Another friend, Jay, spent the night and we finally got him to come to the tourney too. There was also Shawn up at TBS who came in at the last second. It was pouring though, so the usual kids weren’t here to make the tourney 12+ people. Oh well, top 2 it is.

I used to run this deck before the bans (there might be a report of its pre-ban form around here) and I decided to make it again since Zombie Chaos was getting old and had a few flaws. I’ll hopefully run it again soon after I work out all the bugs, but this deck did exceptionally well against my friends so I just might stick with this.

The list:

Monsters (17):

x1 Airknight Parshath

x3 Berserk Gorilla

x1 Blade Knight

x1 Breaker the Magical Warrior

x1 D. D. Warrior Lady

x1 Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer

x2 Mobius the Frost Monarch

x3 Nimble Momonga

x1 Sangan

x1 Sinister Serpent

x2 Spirit Reaper

x1 Tribe-Infecting Virus

Traps (6):

x1 Call of the Haunted

x1 Compulsory Evacuation Device

x1 Dust Tornado

x1 Mirror Force

x1 Ring of Destruction

x1 Torrential Tribute

Spells (17):

x2 Book of Moon

x1 Creature Swap

x1 Delinquent Duo

x1 Enemy Controller

x1 Graceful Charity

x1 Heavy Storm

x1 Mystical Space Typhoon

x2 Nobleman of Crossout

x1 Pot of Greed

x1 Premature Burial

x2 Scapegoat

x1 Smashing Ground

x1 Snatch Steal

x1 Swords of Revealing Light

**Round 1 vs. Shawn w/ nearly the same deck**

Match 1 – We use the same idea in our decks (no themed cards, just stuff that works) so it was close in all the matches. Beat him in this one by Ringing something in his standby.

Match 2 – He won this one since I drew 2 monsters; a D. D. Warrior Lady that was removed, and a Reaper that he got rid of as well. He also got out his Nimbles for a nice LP lead.

Match 3 – It was really close as far as field control went, but I ended up winning with 7200 left over.

**Round 2 vs. Lance w/ random deck**

Met no problems here, just a random n00b.

**Round 3 vs. Nick w/ Chaos/Monarch/Morph**

He was using my BLS and beat my brother’s netdecked Tsukuyomi deck when he got it early on in both games. Anyway, as I always say, I never remember what the matches are since we play so often. Lets just say my deck whoops up on his though, as he has yet to beat it in a 2 out of 3 match.

**Finals vs. Shannon w/ Dragon LV deck**

We’re not sure whether his opponent purposely lost to make sure our team didn’t monopolize the prizes (it was said Shannon lost, which meant it would be me vs. either my bro or Nick) or whether his opponent let him win because he took back a Ring that would’ve killed him and decided Shannon would’ve won. Either way, Shannon should’ve won, so w/e.

Match 1 – Got obliterated when he Snatched my Jinzo and killed my Nimbles via Spear Dragon.

Match 2 – Sidedecked in Bottomless, and as usual, didn’t draw it. Won this one since he didn’t draw enough monsters, plus I Duo’ed first turn.

Match 3 – Lost this when I tried to Bottomless his LV6 and he had Lord of D. out, and since I haven’t had a problem with Bottomless in a while, forgot it didn’t target >.< He got out LV8 after killing something of mine and won.

I got 3 packs, a DB1 for each of the other team members and an FET for me. I opened it and got the Behemoth King thing. Oh well, better than a crap rare.

Props:

-My friend Jay and the manager’s boyfriend Shawn for coming this week

-The 3 random guys and Shannon for showing up and making the tourney worthwhile

-Nick for beating the assistant manager (and pwnmaster of every game he plays) Bob in Star Wars miniatures with my Grievous/Droid army. He would’ve gotten in the top 4 if there was one, but apparently that tourney was plagued with just a top 2 as well.

-My team’s Star Wars miniatures stuff for costing a starter and $1.50 in uncommons to get, and Bob for giving us a buttload of free commons and uncommons. We have 2 playable armies, and 3 if we get a non-dark side Anakin to go with the starter Obi-Wan.

-Us for staying up at TBS all day

-Me for trading my BLS (that had 3-4 bends on the back and peeling corners) for $40-ish in MTG cards

-Regionals for being 3 weeks away!

Slops:

-Me for going broke later in the day when I had $80-something as of Tuesday. $15 went to Anachronism, $12 for comic supplies (finally bagged/boarded everything), $20-ish to Teen Titans 19 through 23, $12-ish to YGO, and $25 for the good Miniatures starter (the Jango Fett in the $20 one apparently sucks).

-No more BLS, though if worse came to worse the guy I traded it to would let me use it at Regionals or I could buy one for $45 at a local store.

-No more Anachronism tourneys on the schedule, since it was raining and the random crowd with Anachronism wasn’t present this week.

-Apparently Pensacola got more rain in April than in 1 month anywhere since they’ve been measuring rainfall, and we got twice as much in 24 hours than when Hurricane Ivan came through. Take that Seattle :-P
