Fullblown ChaosMorph - TR0N

Saturday Yu-Gi-Oh! Tournament (10+ up)
Virginia Collectibles
Fredericksburg, Virginia
May 21, 2005
22 Participants
Traditional Format

I've participated in this comic shop's yugioh tournaments since the day I picked up my first booster pack. I've been playing for a little over a year, and have gone from n00b to local judge in this time. I was going to right a report for the early April regionals in Richmond, but the notebook made players nervous, understandable. The tournaments are in traditional format, mainly because the shop owner does not want "banned" cards that could affect his sales, not that I blame him. At the age of 21 im about the oldest person who competes in the tournament, so yes, lots of God cards float around. I prefer advanced format, and hope a few cards are added to the ban list: tribe, duo, BLS, mirror force, even pot of greed/graceful. I hope you find my report useful and educational. Anyways, on to the decklist.

The deck is a little thick at 46 cards, but it has a little of everything. I plan to take Emperor and 1 dd
assailant out for 2 gorillas, but I didn't wake up in time to play with my deck. I really should side deck royal
oppression as it hurts me as much. But being traditional format, the majority of decks at the tournament ARE chaos.
I don't full with a side deck at these local tournaments because it is only $7 entry fee (comes with pack of choice)
and it is all fun here.

My friend Jeremy and I arrived around 3:00pm, the last few minutes of signup. I quickly bum rushed the case
to see what the shop had new. Picked up a 1st Ed Ultimate Rare Dark Blade to complete my fusion deck for this deck.
Within five minutes they were calling duel partners, so we were quiet til Ed (the Shop Owner) finished.

Round One
TR0N vs. Megan

The first duel is always the hardest, simply because you do not know what your opponent has in store for you.
You should always have your observation skills at max while playing, but push it beyond max on that first duel. Study
your opponents moves and learn their strategy.

I won coin toss and drew my six. An ok hand involving, torrential, magician of faith and graceful charity.
Opening with GC, set Mof and torrential. She sets a few S/T and a FD monster. I draw and flip MoF, get graceful and
chain torrential. Play graceful, yata, jinzo and monster reborn. discard something and jinzo, Monster reborn jinzo,
summon yata, and attack with the two. After explaining what each card did, I could tell I was facing up against a
yugi evolution deck. Yata-lock on second turn, Only lifepoints lost, were a scientist to bring out balter to negate
a FD. 1-0

Second duel, I wiped the sweat from my forehead and drew my five after cuts. Ouch, Jinzo, Pot, Graceful,
Monster Reborn and Raigeki. I decided to play it safe and just summon a kycoo after my greedy cards. I destroy a FD
Burning Beast. um.. ok. But she surprised me next turn when she whipped out a time wizard, too bad she called it
wrong :(. Final field (about 2 turns later) was yata, kycoo, 2 assailants and jinzo. 2-0

I thanked her for a good game and reported the victory.

Round Two
TR0N vs. Jeremy .... WHAT!????

Figures, drive 40 miles to duel with 30 people and you end up dueling the only person you came with. He and I
duel each day, and it goes back and forth. During tournaments he usually gets lucky with topdecks :P sorry jeremy.

Ouch another bad hand. Scientist, both metas' and emperor. He went first and normal summond blade knight
and ended. ooo no S/T, so I took advantage. Summoned scientist, paid a thousand to bring out dark balter. meta
scientist into TER to suck blade, then meta'd dark balter to a dark balter., he ate 1600 for the turn. I didn't have
many options but i depleted my whole hand basically for that move, and I felt stupid when he summoned tribe and discarded
for Spellcaster and fiend. I draw blade, and set my noc so he gets the 400 boost and attack. Later i get painful and
bring out emp, (finally) attack an attack position sangan and pay the 1000. He gets serpent and eats a whopping 1500.
He top decks United and humerously equips it to sinister to take me down to 200 lp. I set sangan and pray for the best.
He top decks blowback, and blows up my sangan, and attacks directly for 2300, (why didn't I deck that kuriboh?) 2-1

This duel was fast, I draw a perfect beatdown hand, and let him fall into the traps of cylinder and Mirror
Force, leaving him open for direct attacks with a kycoo a 2000 atk blade knight and a reflect. 3-1

Third duel was more like our normal games, long with plenty of back and forth field advantage. I did not take
many notes on this duel becuase I was concentrating on the duel. He gets me with BLS-EOTB, Kaiser Glider (which ran
into my phoenix) and blowback. Cheap indian nickel always lands heads. 3-2

Round Three
TR0N vs "I don't know" aka Mathew.

After a brief intermission where we received our entry boosters and a slice of pizza we began round 3. I lost
the second round so my spirits were a little shot.

I won toss and went first, set witch and ended. He opens with dark hole, while I'm searching for what card I
want he continues to make actions and summons and attacks. Knowing what was in my hand I picked Jinzo. Opened with
Reborn witch and sacing for jinzo. Painful the usual lights/darks, out comes BLS and I knock him down to 1400 on my
second turn. He spec summonds fiend megacyber and equips black pendant and kills my jinzo. I top deck yata and summon
it just in case of kuriboh, BLS attacks, attacks and game. 4-2

Second duel was hilarious, I had so many things going he had a hard time following. He sets a S/T and ends,
I summon breaker and remove counter to destroy Mirror Force. Next turn open field, so I bring out kycoo to eat at the
LP and set goats just in case he gets fancy. Here is where it got tricky, he brings out GAF with mage power and black
pendant and smacks my kycoo. I play SG before he ends, and morph a token to TER and suck up GAF (I take 500 from
pendant) and hit him for 2300. Next he Change of Hearts TER and tributes him for Granmarg. and kills my breaker. I
then morph another token to suck up granmarg, tribute TER for airknight, monster reborn granmarg and attack for game.
I love this deck. 5-2

Round Four
TR0N vs BoB

Bob is not his real name, and I cannot think of it right now. He is one of the sons of Wesley (spell lord)
(old man) who attends the tourneys religiously. Jeremy had to play Bob last round and crushed him with the abuse of
kaiser glider. (he tried to suicide a monarch AND a phoenix into kaiser twice to no avail... hehe)

First duel was like my deck was stacked for phoenix beatdown. I had phoenix, airknight and a Snatched blade
knight (2000) on the third turn doing some serious damage. He surprsied my when he snatched my phoenix a turn or two
later and was going to run into my assailant to get rid of it. Clever little kid, but Windstorm saves the day. next
turn assailant kills phoenix (bye bye my sweet) and airknight and blade finish it. 6-2

Second duel I drew and was about to tap my deck... it was ugly, no monsters... and my S/Ts' were useless first
turn, Monster Reborn and Call. I did get lucky with drawing a ring and my sixth was a sangan. Well I got lucky because
he didn't draw much good either. He summons breaker and I wait for him to use the counter to destroy my S/T which was
ring. I figured I need that extra 300 LP this duel. Alas he reborns it and kills my sangan, I play goats and grab hand
with effect. Boom... phoenix dominates, next turn Pot/Graceful. I Enemy Controller tribute a token to bring his blade
knight over during standby(since he Mirror Force'd my phoenix and forgot it came back) tribute blade for airknight,
call sangan for kicks and finish him off for a two-zero victory. 7-2

The ENDermission
We all wait patiently for the placement status. Trading, dueling and all that good stuff continues as we wait.
There was a tie for third place, Jeremy and Cullen (store employee) and that slowed things down as we waited for them
to duel. Well I placed sixth with a 7-2. Jeremy got 3rd and won a free soda! lol We played a couple more duels for
fun, in which I played Jacob (2nd place) and beat him 2-0 thankx to my phoenix.

Next weekend is Lost Millenium Sneak Preview in which I am taking my judge tests, and have to judge part of
the event. Should be fun, I look forward to seeing people there.

PROS:
- pulling a feather of the phoenix in my entry pack in which I gave to Jeremy since he didn't have one.
- completing my fusion deck with a $12 1st ed ultimate dark blade.
- not seeing anyone else running oppression w/ phoenix(pay to send it away until you need it)
- Jeremy and I winning a double duel against the 2nd and 7th place players.
- That everyone had fun despite not getting first place.

CONS:
- not many people into trades today, could be a good thing too.
- of course not beating Jeremy during tournament... again. hehe
- having a better record then Jeremy and placing four spots lower.
- That it doesn't last longer.

Email deckfixes, strategies, ruling questions, rulings in general, tips, or if you want to attend these
tournaments (I can give directions), or just plain yugioh talk in general, to me, James, at k4jep@n4st.com.

Thanks and keep dueling!
