Well, in all the years I’ve played Yu-Gi-Oh, this is my first tourney report. So, let’s get on with it.

Before the tournament: The tournament started at 1 o’ clock and I got there around 12:35.  I met up with John, Do, and Chris as usual, but Steve wasn’t there today. Anyway, we all entered and parings were soon announced.

Round 1: A Burning Nightmare vs. Darren (Chaos-Control)

Match 1:

I start things off by playing meteor of destruction. I set a spirit reaper and just desserts.

He change of hearts my reaper and sacrifices for Jinzo. To make a long story short, Jinzo and a Kycoo end up dominating me.

Me: 8000-7000-4600-0

Darren: 8000-7000-6000-5500-5000-4500

Record: 0-1

Match 2:

I side-decked and got another dark door. I set up my defenses and set a spirit reaper. He has no way to destroy my messenger of peace and my lava golem slowly decreasing his lifepoints. I draw my wave-motion cannon, let it charge for a few turns and launch it for game.

Me: 8000

Darren: 8000-7500-7000-6500-6000-3500-1500-0

Record: 1-1

Match 3:

Everything goes pretty much the same as in Match 2. I set up stalls and have my cannon slowly charge up, while solar-flare does extra damage on the side.

Me: 8000-7100

Darren: 8000-7500-7000-6500-1500-500-0

Record: 2-1

In between rounds:

So far my record is 2-1. Chris and Do have moved onto the second round. John had lost to a burn deck.

Round 2: A Burning Nightmare vs. Mario (Not sure, but has a lot of rare cards)

Match 1:

He goes first and sets all of his cards on the field. 5 face-down m/t and 1 monster. I’m like “what is he doing?” I take his bait and attack his face-down with solar-flare dragon. A morphing jar. Now all my stalls and burn were gone. Luckily, I draw a gravity bind and set it. He summons giant orc and attacks. I activate gravity bind and he activates another rare card. A royal decree. Now my defenses are messed up. Next turn, I get messenger of peace and set my spirit reaper. He can’t do attack but he just sets another monster. I draw lava golem and that pretty much ends the game for him.

Me: 8000-5500-3000-2900-2800-2700-2600-1800

Mario: 8000-7200-6200-5200-4200-3700-2700-2200-1200-0

Record: 3-1

Match 2:

The complete opposite of Match 1. His royal decree messes up my strategy and I’m just left as a sitting duck. I manage to get some burn in, bit not enough.

Me: 8000-1700-1600-600-0

Mario: 8000-7200-6200-4200-3700

Record: 3-2

Match 3:

This was probably the best match of the whole day. It was one of those matches that go back and forth continuously. In the first few turns, he got my lifepoints down to 4000. On his field, he had an unstoppable force of a bunch of 1900’s. My only defense was one morphing jar #2. He attacks therefore saving me another turn. I reassemble my defense and defend for a few more turns. The judge calls time and I win with higher lifepoints.

Me: 8000-7200-7100-4100-4000

Mario: 8000-7500-4000-3500

Record: 4-2

In between rounds:

Chris got eliminated and Do moves on. Chris continues to buy more packs, but still doesn’t get the lightning vortex that he so badly wants.

Semi-Finals: A Burning Nightmare vs. Dave (Chaos)

Match 1:

First turn, he plays mirage of nightmare and sets all of his hand. To make things short, MST is one of his last cards. He only three cards left in his deck and attacks my cyber jar. I win of deck out.

Me: 8000-7000

Dave: 8000-7200-7000-Deck Out

Record: 5-2

Match 2:

He side boards and so do I. His swarm of locusts eventually tears up my only defenses. I manage to play final countdown, but lose on the 13th turn of the countdown.

Me: 8000-7700-7400-7100-6500-6400-4400-2600-1800-200-0

Dave: 8000-7200-6200-4200-3700

Record: 5-3

Match 3:

Everything in this match is just as bad as Match 2. His locusts prevent me from setting my defenses and my burn cards do nothing to him. I put up a good fight, and eventually lose.

Me: 8000-7700-6900-6400-6300-5800-5700-5200-5100-4100-4000-2900-0

Dave: 8000-7000-6000-5000

 Record: 5-4

Conclusion:

I get my two Flaming Eternity packs and pull an assault on GHQ and another meteor of destruction. Do advances to the finals, but loses to Dave. Chris bought some more packs, pulled a silent swords man lv. 5 (his third one) and trades it in for two packs. John picks one of them and says “watch, this is lightning vortex.” Chris opens the pack and guess what card it is? Yup, lightning vortex. Craziness or just really lucky. Anyway, I finally get the airknight I always needed for my Chaos deck. So, in the end, the tourney was fun and I had a good time.

Props:

-         Finally making it to semifinals.

-         Chris for finally getting the lightning vortex he wanted for weeks.

-         All the great duelist I played today.

-         Morphing Jar #2 for pulling through for me.

-         Getting Airknight Parshath

-         Finally tying a match with Chris.

Slops:

-         Not pulling anything good from my packs.

-         Someone who forgot to bring the stealth birds I needed this week.

-         Chris for beating me with his “secondary deck.”

-         New ruling on troop dragon’s effect

Well that’s all for now. Until the next tourney…
