I was kinda nervous today because it looked like there were a lot of people I didn't know there. It turned out that only a few of them were actually playing in the tournament and the others were just watching. Before the tournament started, I traded an Enraged Battle Ox for a Spirit Reaper, I wanted a third one for the Zombie deck I'm going to be using next time…(hopefully no one from the store is reading this right now)…I also traded a Royal Command for an ultimate-rare Mystic Swordsman Lvl 2.

Duel 1: Me vs. Older guy (sorry, don't know his name)

I don't remember a whole lot about his deck or even lots of the details to these duels. There were at least 4 ruling arguments that came up during the course of our game, most of them I knew I was right on but I went ahead and let him have his way because A. There was no TO there that could really help us since the old one just quit 2 weeks ago, B. I had the advantage at the time and was pretty sure I was going to win, and C. I'm not good at arguing my point, especially against bigger and older people. The first argument came up when he used Snatch Steal on my Jinzo, and then later Heavy Stormed the field. I said I got my monster back because Snatch Steal was gone, but he said he got to keep it for whatever reason. We asked another one of the good players there, but her said he couldn't give us rulings. So I just let him keep it, and it turned out helping me in my next turn. But after that, I knew it was going to be a long, incorrect-ruling filled day. Next I tried to Morph one of my Scapegoats. He said that they were not monsters, but tokens, and I had to offer a monster for Morph. I said that they counted as monsters, hence the reason they're in the monster card zone. So he came back and said that they couldn't be offered as tribute, and Morph required tribute. I say that they only can't be used for tribute summons, and this is a special summon…to make a long story short, he wasn't going to change his mind. I beat him first round fairly easily, despite all that.

Me: 8000-7000

            Him: 8000-4200-0

This round was filled with a couple more incorrect rulings. At one point, I tribute summoned for my Mobius, and he used Bottomless Trap Hole on it. I said I still got to kill one more magic/trap, be he said that Mobius wasn't successfully summoned…uh, but doesn't he have to be successfully summoned to use Trap Hole on him? Oh well. It wouldn't have bothered me too much, but the same exact thing happened to him not even 2 turns before, and I went ahead and took out my other m/t. Somewhere towards the middle of this duel, my sister, who was dueling behind me, turned around and asked us is Spirit Reaper would die when you use Creature Swap on it. I said no, because Creature Swap technically doesn't target monsters. But guess what he said? I just turned around and told her we're not really suppose to be giving ruling advice. I was happy when it was over because I knew I wouldn't have that much trouble with anyone else.

            Me: 8000-7600-6400

            Him: 8000-7400-5900-4400-2900-1400-0

We went ahead and played a third round for fun and I beat him once again. This one was a lot closer, I had one card left in my deck when I finally finished him off.

There was only one other duel going on when we finished, so I decided to watch it. I noticed one kid using all the banned cards, but I was only going to say something if he did end up winning. He did win, but the son of the guy I just beat said something about it, and I think the kid got disqualified.

Duel 2: Me vs. Little kid who got bye first round.

This round went by really quickly, so I didn't get to see a whole lot of his deck. I was able to empty his hand and field and leave him top-decking.

            Me: 8000

            Him: 8000-6400-4800

This round was only harder because I ran into a few banned cards. I killed the last two monsters on his side of the field, just to find out that they were the Witch and Sangan…with which he pulled…two Exodia pieces and then drew Graceful Charity. I didn't say anything, but just beat him the next turn.

            Me: 8000-7000-6700-5000

            Him: 8000-4600-4000-1300-0

I found out my sister had also won her second match and would be going to the semifinals. We had to wait about 15 minutes for another duel to get over before we could get started.

Duel 3: Me vs. My sister

I never saw this coming; usually they won't stick us anywhere near each other in the tournament. She was using a Wind/Beatdown deck and I already knew exactly what to expect, but like always, things seem a lot more complicated in a tournament setting. I ended up beating her fairly quickly the first round.

            Me: 8000-7500-6500-5700-4800

            Her: 8000-5600-5100-1100-300-0

The second round went on a lot longer, mainly because we couldn't stop laughing. At some point, I attacked her with a Berserk Gorilla, just to have some dice thrown at me and have her yell: "Dice Roll! Go!"

             Me: 8000-7500-7000-6600-4600-3800

            Her: 8000-7200-5200-0

Duel 4: Me vs. Matt (Best duelist in store and ranked #1 in the state)

I was really nervous, even after beating him last time. Sometime within the last 2 weeks I had checked the Tournament Ratings on UDE just to find out that he was #1 in the state. I also found out that I was #3 and my sister was #11, but that's really not saying a whole lot considering we live in Kansas, where there's only 1 or 2 sanctioned tournaments every week. This first round was really close, I think he was still using his Metamorphosis deck, I probably could've pulled it out but I made a mistake and activated the wrong card when he summoned Mobius.

            Me: 8000-7000-4600-2200-0

            Him: 8000-6400-2600

This is probably the best I've ever done against him, especially considering how nervous I was after getting beaten first round. The only damage he did to me was when he Change of Hearted my facedown Sinister on the second turn and then flipped it up to attack. I gained that back later on from his Snatch Steal.

            Me: 8000-7700-8700

            Him: 8000-7200-6400-5400-4000-2600-2300-1900-0

I was feeling a little better now after evening the score. This round, the only damage I took was from his BLS attacking directly once. I think his problem was that he played out all his monsters too quickly, and I Snatched his BLS on the next turn and turned it against him. I used it to kill him Tribe, and then attacked DDWL, but for whatever reason, he decided not to remove which I thought was odd.

            Me: 8000-5000

            Him: 8000-7000-6000-4500-5500-3600-3300-1700-0

From my tournament pack, I pulled a Book of Life. This really helps me out because now I have the 2 I need after I traded my sister for hers. For my prize, I chose out 1 Flaming Eternity pack and 2 Dark Revelations packs, I didn't even know they were out yet. From FET, I pulled Swords of Concealing Light, and from DR1 I got Guardian Ceal and Butterfly Daggers. Well…I got a bunch of rares that I didn't have before, but personally, I rather would've gotten some cards I could've used/ holos I could've traded or sold.

Pros:

            -     Winning

            -     Last Will being an underrated card.

            -     Advanced Format allowing people with skill, but not all the good cards, to have a chance to win.

-         My parents actually driving us out there.

-         Advanced Format allowing people to use originality in building a competitive deck.

-         Getting a Book of Life

-         Getting a few good trades.

Cons:

            - I have to play with the new bans next time. Really not looking forward to that.

            - Having so much difficulty with people and rulings

            - Not being able to go next time, darn ACTs.

Please, I don’t want to hear about how I should change my deck around, it’s the best I can do with what I’ve got.
