RegnR8's jumbled mass of mess
Tournament Report for 6/18/05

Hi all,

Welcome to this week's edition of the tournament report! I hope this writing finds you well and winning! This writing finds me, not well and losing!

I had a very bad experience this weekend as far as tournament showing is concerned. Last week, I tried out my Total Body Control deck and did well. I made it to the finals at one tournament and was eliminated in the third round at another, but overall, I was pretty happy with it's performance.

I recieved many emails from readers with suggestions and fixes and I liked a few of them so, I wanted to implement them as soon as possible. Well, I made a bunch of hasty changes the morning of the tournament and didn't realize several mistakes I made while tossing the deck together. Monsters that didn't really work, cards that I should have used but didn't, cards I shouldn't have used but did, cards that I should have used more copies of, cards I shouldn't have taken out and generally, I really screwed it up. The majority of suggestions I recieved from readers revolved around Reasoning and Monster Gate and I thought that was a really good idea, and I still do, I just messed up on the build. Here's the deck and I'll point out the major blunder of the deck if you don't spot it right away.

Jumbled Mess

x1 DMoC
x2 Ancient Gear Golem
x2 Ancient Gear Beast
x1 Phoenix
x1 Blowback Dragon
x2 The Creator
x2 Airknight Parshath
x2 Mobius the Frost Monarch
x2 The End of Anubis
x1 Granmarg
x1 Jinzo

x1 Pot of Greed
x1 Graceful Charity
x3 Scapegoat
x3 Reasoning
x2 Metamorphosis
x3 Brain Control
x2 Soul Exchange
x2 Monster Gate
x1 Snatch Steal
x1 Heavy Storm
x1 Premature Burial

x1 Call of the Haunted
x2 Level Conversion Lab

The side deck is irrelevent right now because I took it apart and never put it back.

The blunder I made was putting the Gear Monsters in the deck because they CAN'T be special summoned! DOH! What was I thinking!?! I really blew the deck apart by my own inattentivness. Man, what a dope.

The only good thing about the tournament today was the fact I pulled an Ultimate Lightning Vortex from the pack I got for entering! That was definately worth the 5 bucks entry fee!

Anyway, I lost in the first round to a beatdown deck. I won the second round because I played a kid and I lost in the the third round and was out. The deck performed mediocre at worst and amazing at times but the Golems were killing me and I had nothing to side deck in. Occasionally, when I didn't get a Golem with Monster Gate or Reasoning, it worked well. Smart people started calling 6 as the level for Reasoning, but most frequently guessed 4 or 3. I had a couple of OTK's with it, but I think the deck would have worked better IF I wasn't such a MORON! LoL.

OK, so after that embarassing fiasco, I took off to the second tournament of the day.

Having learned from my mistake, I decided to try a different deck. I wanted to use my "Tramp-O-Lean" deck. It's based on smaller monsters and trample. It's a work in progress, so don't be too harsh on it. I know it lacks a few things and after today, I've decided I know what it needs. More monster removal. Here it is:

Tramp-O-Lean

x3 Airknight Parshath
x3 Berserk Gorilla
x3 Mad Dog of Darkness
x3 King Tiger Wanghu
x2 Chiron the Mage
x2 Enraged Battle Ox
x1 Tribe Infecting Virus

x1 Pot of Greed
x1 Graceful Charity
x1 Snatch Steal
x2 NoC
x1 Heavy Storm
x1 Delinquent Duo
x1 Lightning Vortex
x2 Nobleman of Extermination
x2 Bait Doll (These are GREAT!)
x1 Premature Burial
x1 Mystical Space Typhoon
x1 SoRL
x1 Smashing Ground

x2 Light of Intervention
x1 Call of the Haunted
x1 Ceasefire
x1 RoD
x1 Torrential Tribute
x1 Dust Tornado

ROUND 1
Tramp-O-Lean VS Chaos

Yadda, yadda. Nothing much to say here except Light of Intevention OWNS and I trample out a victory both games fairly easily.

ROUND 2
Tramp-O-Lean VS Beatdown, pure and simple

GAME1
Goblin's take out my Gorillas and his traps take out any monster I try to trample them with. This deck has, by FAR the most S/T removal I have and yet, I draw none of it.

GAME 2
This is more like it. The Bait Doll and NoE take out all his set cards and I am free to smash his GAF's and Spear Dragons.

GAME 3
Almost a repeat of game one but to add isult to injury, a first turn Delinquent Duo cuts my hand down and Jinzo comes out when I have three traps set. I don't draw anything to help get rid of Jinzo and he pretty much kills me easily.

Wow. I'm out in the second round! Unheard of! Oh well, we all have our off days, and I guess this one was my most offest. Offest? Hah.

Next week, I may try out the Total Body Control with SMART revisions one more time before I go back to the Monarch deck or something new. I'm testing out a Card of Sanctity deck, but I really need some DD Assailants to make it work. I play tested it a little today and it worked OK but, not great.

Until next time, happy dueling!
