Tournament Report for February 19 & 20,
2005
Hi All,
Welcome to this weeks
edition of the tournament report. I hope this writing finds you well and
winning!
I had a very
interesting weekend of dueling. We had two tournaments but I am only going to
give the details of one. The second tournament, I lost in the first round to a
12 year old using someone else's deck. I knew I was going to lose in the first
round and I even stood up and announced to everyone I was going to lose in the
first round and I did. Now, it wasn't because of negative karma or anything.
This kid is a thorn in my side! He never plays, doesn't have any cards and quit
Yugioh but, no. Today, he decided to play with someone elses deck that I have
thrashed 99% of the time. Oh well, I guess that's my luck against this kid. God
placed him on the earth to keep me humble. He could pick up 40 cards from the
floor and give me a hard time with them.

Wow.
Only 8 people actually
entered the tournament. It is a holiday weekend, so I guess a lot of people were
out of town or visiting grandma or something.
So, the Monarch deck
gets the nod again this week. I am working the kinks out of another deck I want
to try out but, I am missing 2 of a key card I need. I only have one Big Shield
Gardna and I need two more to really test the deck to it's fullest potential. So
far, it's worked fairly well, but not nearly enough to enter a tournament with.
I have another card in place of the two Gardnas I need and they are not nearly
as effective as the Gardna has been. I
digress....

MONARCHS VS
EQUIP BEATDOWN
Oh yeah. I hate equip
beatdowns. Maha Vailo, Axes, whatever.
GAME
1
I go first and get a
Scapegoat, Zaborg, TiV, Change of Heart, Gorilla and Enemy Controller. I set the
Scapegoat and summon the Gorilla.
He summons Eagle Eye
and sets 2 S/T.
I draw Metamorphosis,
tribute my Gorilla for Zaborg to destroy his Eagle Eye and attack for 2400. He
doesn't respond. Ok. That's cool.
He sets 1 S/T and
summons Maha Valio and equips it with a Malevolent Nuzzler! Oh no! I am scared
(sarcasm). He attacks my Zaborg.
I draw another
Metamorphosis, Change his jacked up stupid Maha Vailo, summon TiV, attack with
both, then discard one of the Metamorphosis to destroy his Maha Vailo. Hahaha! I
set Enemy Controller and end my turn. Jerk.
He summons La Jinn and
I activate EC, turning it to defense. He chains Shadow Spell to my Tribe.
Wahaha! Yippee. I activate Scapegoat in his end
phase.
I Morph a token to TER
and take his La Jinn and attack him with it for
game.
GAME
2
More hilarity
insues.
I get Swap, Forceful,
Mobius, Nimble, and Swords. He sets 3 S/T and ends his turn. I draw Bottomless
and play Forceful Sentry. He's holding two Sphinx Theleia and a Gigagagagigo.
What the?!? I give him one of the Sphinxs. I summon a Nimble and attack him for
1000LP damage. I set the Bottomless Trap
Hole.
He activates Pyramid
of Light, pays 500 to special summon the Sphinx and I Bottomless it. HAHAH. He
activates 7 Tools of the Bandit. Oh Darn. He equips the Sphinx with an Axe of
Despair. I LMAO because he has 1 face down S/T card and I have a Creature Swap
and I'm probably going to have a 4000 attacker next turn and he is oh so going
to die. Evil laughter.
I draw MST and MST his
face down card. It's a Magic Jammer. I bust out laughing. I Creature Swap my
Nimble for his Sphinx and throughly whip his butt. 8000 to like, negative a
zillion. LOL.
ROUND
2
MONARCHS VS
HARPIE/WIND DECK
I don't get it. Why
are people using the Harpy Lady stuff? It still sucks. I have only seen one half
way decent Harpy deck and all the others are crap. Maybe I should build a wind
deck.
GAME
1
I lose the die roll.
He summons a Luster Dragon and that's all. I get Sinister, Thestalos, Morphing
Jar, Metamorphosis, Enemy Controller and a Nimble. I set the Nimble and Enemy
Controller and end my turn.
He plays Tribute to
the Doomed on my Nimble and summons a Harpie's Brother and activates a Rising
Air Current and hits me for a whole freaking lot of damage. I could have
activated the Enemy Controller on one of the attacks, but I wanted to save
it.
I draw another
Metamorphosis and screw this up but did it anyway. I summon Sinister, Morp it to
TER and take his Luster. I Morp into another TEr and take his Harpies Brother. I
did that backwards. I should have ended up with the Luster on TER instead of the
Harpies Bro, but too late now. I attack him for
1800.
He activates Swords
and summons Harpy Lady #3.
I draw Snatch Steal
and take his Harpy Lady #3 and take a chance and tribute her for Thestalos. I
take his Heavy Storm out of his hand. That was a good thing.
He draws and sets one
S/T.
I draw Bottomless and
set it.
He draws and sets
another S/T.
When Swords is finally
gone, I attack with TER and get Cylindered. Whoopee. He activates Jar of Greed.
?? Ok whatever.
He Snatch's my TER and
tributes it for Armed Dragon LV5 and I Bottomless Trap Hole
it.
I Heavy Storm all his
set S/T cards and Premature Burial my Nimble, summon another Nimble and attack
him for 2000.
He Fissure's one of my
Nimbles.
He's down to 1700 now
and I summon Morphing Jar and attack him with the Nimble and the Jar for the
win!
GAME
2
I side deck in a
couple of Magic Drains to stop those Field Magic
Cards.
He goes first and sets
a monster and one S/T.
I get Nimble, Magic
Drain (I hate drawing this in my opening hand - It's much better mid to late
game), Premature Burial, Scapegoat, Twin Headed Behemoth and Metamorphosis. I
set the Nimble, the Drain and the Goat.
He Tornados my
Scapegoat and I activate it. He made a mistake in not doing it in my end phase.
He actiates Rising Air Current and summons a Harpie's Brother and attacks a
token. I didn't feel like Draining his Air Current because it didn't really
matter at the time.
I flip my Nimble and
Morph a token to TER and take his Harpie's Brother. I Swap my Nimble for his
face down Spirit Reaper. Ha. I attack my Nimble, gain 1000Lp and get one more to
the field.
He Fissures a token.
WoOT! and summons an Eagle Eye.
I draw and end my
turn.
He tributes Eagle Eye
for Roc from the
I attack his Roc with
TER and then take his Roc.
He sets a monster and
I Nobleman it next turn and attack him again.
He summons an Armed
Dragon LV3 and I tribute his Reaper for Zaborg to destroy it next turn and
attack again.
He draws and
conceeds.
ROUND 3
MONARCHS VS
CHAOS/RFG
Once again, I have to
duel this deck.Lately, it sems like we are dueling in the latter rounds quite a
lot. He has gotten the better of me a couple of times, and I of him. Our duels
are usually long and drawn out.
GAME
1
I lose the die roll
and go second. He discards a Thunder Dragon for it's effect, sets 1 S/T and one
monster.
I draw a Nimble, MST,
Gorilla, Zaborg, Change of Heart and Call of the Haunted. I MST his Scapegoat,
which he activates. I Change his set Fiber Jar and tribute it for Zaborg
to destroy a token and attack another. I set Call of the Haunted and end my
turn.
He sets one S/T and
ends his turn.
I draw Pot of Greed
and play it. I Forceful his Chaos Sorceror back to his deck and summon a NImble
to attack a token. I attack both tokens he has
left.
He Premature Burials
his Fiber Jar and tributes it for Airknight and attacks my Nimble. I get the
other two.
I draw Enemy
Controller. I tribute a Nimble to take control of his Airknight and attack. He
activates Waboku and I have to end my turn.
He sets a monster and
attacks my other Nimble.
I draw a Gorilla and
summon it. I attack his Airknight with the Gorilla and attack his set Spirit
Reaper with Zaborg.
He Morphs his Serpent
into TER to take my Zaborg and attacks my Gorilla.
I draw another Enemy
Controller and set Fiber Jar.
He attacks my Fiber
with TER and I get Scientist, Fiber, Swap, Bottomless and Metamorphosis. He
plays Painful Choice and offers BLS, Scientist, DMoC, Sinister and Jinzo. What a
surprise. I give him the Serpent because it doesn't matter. He sets 2 S/T, one
monster and plays Card Destruction. Crap. I get Zaborg, Thestalos, Gorilla,
Morphing Jar and Premature Burial. He finally ends his
turn.
I Premature Burial my
Scientist, pay 1000LP for TER and take his set Reaper. I tribute TER for
Thestalos and take out his Heavy Storm. Well, that's a pretty good hit. I go
ahead and pay another 1000LP for Ryu Senshi and when I attack, he activates
Waboku and I pay another 1000LP to negate it and attack him for 2700 with
Thestalos and the Scientist. I figured the trade off was within acceptable LP. I
pay 3000LP and attack him for 2700. A small deficit of 300LP was ok with
me.
He Morphs Sinister and
takes my Thestalos. Crap. He attacks my Scientist with TER.
I draw Bottomless and
set it and the Morphing Jar.
He sets a S/T and
atacks my Jar. I get Pot, NoC, Metamorphosis, Change of Heart and Scapegoat. He
discards a Thunder Dragon for it's effect and ends his
turn.
I play Pot, get
Painful and Forceful. I Forceful a Metamorphosis back to his deck (I'm about
tired of that). I Painful Choice some stuff to get rid of TER and a MST. He
gives me the MST. I set MST and Scapegoat . He summons Breaker and Breaks
my Scapegoat, which I chain. He attacks a token with
TER.
I summon my Breaker
and Break his Goat, which he can't activate. I Morph a token to take his TER and
attack his Breaker.
He sets a
monster.
I NoC his Sinister and
attack with TER. Waboku. Smeg.
He draws and removes a
light and dark for Chaos Sorceror and I Bottomless it but, he uses priority to
get rid of TER. He summons Reflect Bounder and attacks my
Breaker.
I turn a token to
attack and Swap it for his Reflect Bounder and
attack.
He sets a
S/T.
Here's where I lose. I
draw a Gorilla and summon it. He Torrentials. I set Call of the
Haunted.
He sets another
S/T.
I Call Zaborg back and
attack into a Cylinder. Crap. That takes me down to 200. He's at 4400. I set
Change of Heart as a bluff.
He uses Monster
Reincarnation to get his Scientist back to his hand and summons it. He pays
1000LP for Reaper of the Nightmare and Morphs it into another Reaper of the
Nightmare and attacks for the win. Crap.
GAME
2
I side deck 11 cards.
Nearly everything in my side deck except the Kinetic Soldiers. I chose to go
first. I draw a Tiger, Change of Heart, Call, Snatch, SoRL and Swap. A pretty
good first hand, I think. I summon a Tiger, activate Swords and end my
turn.
He sets 2 S/T and ends
his turn.
I draw Mobius and
attack with the Tiger. He takes it. I set Call of the Haunted and end my turn. I
do not want to get rid of the Tiger until I am sure I do not need
it.
He sets a third S/T
and ends.
I draw Royal Decree
and set it. I attack again with the Tiger and he takes
it.
He sets a fourth
S/T.
I attack with the
Tiger again. Well, I keep hitting him with the Tiger and he can't do anything.
He conceeds.
That was
great.
GAME
3
I keep my deck the way
it is. It worked really well last duel so, I made no
changes.
He goes first and sets
1 S/T and 1 monster.
I draw Bottomless,
Gorilla, Mobius, Behemoth, Call of the Haunted and a Magic Drain. I summon the
Behemoth and he Book of Moons it. I set Bottomless and end my turn. I'm thinking
he has a Cyber Jar set and I'm ready to Bottomless all of his monsters I
can.
He summons Breaker and
I Bottomless him. Oh well. His set monster is not Cyber Jar or he probably would
have flipped it on his own. He sets another S/T and
ends.
I draw Fiber Jar, flip
up my Behemoth and attack his set Spirit Reaper. Meh. I set the Fiber Jar and
the Magic Drain.
He summons Magical
Scientist and pays 1000LP for Baltar and 1000LP for Reaper on the Nightmare. He
Metamorphosis the Baltar and I Magic Drain it. He doesn't discard but then
Morphs the Reaper with another Metamorphosis! Man, what are the freakin' odds of
that! Hmm. He seems to always get Scientist and a couple of Metamorphosis on me
all the time. Mighty suspicious there, T. :). Needless to say, he negates my
Fiber with Baltar, then takes out my Call of the Haunted with Reaper. That blows
and I feel the duel is slipping out of my grasp unless I start having great
draws. I usually don't get what I need while my opponent gets everything. I've
been having a run of bad luck lately....
Hey, my luck has
changed! I draw Pot of Greed and activate it. I get Creature Swap and The
Forceful Sentry. Ok. Not bad. I Forceful his Fiber Jar I Swap my Twin Head
for his Scientist and I tribute it for Mobius and destroy his set something, I
can't read my own handwriting (LoL). I attack his Reaper on the Nightmare. Yeah,
baby.
Well, the duel starts
going in my favor for a while but he stalls with Scapegoats and after I
Torrential a DMoC, when I have monsters on the field too, he manages to Call his
Jinzo back and all I have in my hand are 2 traps and I draw a third and he
wins.
Oh well. Can't win
them all. The deck is good but, man it's been turning on me lately! I'm working
on my new deck and it is coming along very nicely I must say. I need one more
card and it will be ready for some major
testing.
