Hi
all,
Welcome to the double
edition of the tournament report for this week! I hope this writing finds you
well and winning! We had two tournaments today and this report includes both, so
sit back, grab a cup of your favorite beverage and enjoy! As usual, the Monarch
deck gets the go ahead .

Ahh. The first cup of
French Vanilla Coffee with cream and sugar from the Dunkin' Donuts hits the
spot!
First pairings were
called and I have to face one of the best duelists I know. Darn. He admitted he
has changed his side deck to specifically counter mine. He is the second person
I know who has totally redone their side deck just for me. I feel
special.
MONARCHS VS
RFG/CHAOS/LIFE GAIN/STRANGE DECK
Game
1
I lose the die roll
(which happened a LOT to me today). He sets a monster and activates Soul
Absorption.
I draw Zaborg,
Breaker, Morphing Jar, Bottomless, Thestalos and another Bottomless. I set a
Bottomless and summon Breaker. I attack his DD Warrior Lady and he removes them
from play and gains 1000LP. Well, that doesn't start the day off
well.
He summons White
Magician Pikeru and attacks me for 1200.
I draw a Gorilla and
attack his Pikeru.
He sets a
monster.
I draw Call of the
Haunted. I tibute my Gorilla for Zaborg and destroy his set Cyber Jar. Heh. I
attack for 2400.
He plays Heavy Storm,
the special summons BLS' little brother Chaos Sorceror (expect to see a lot more
of this wimp after the ban list), and sets a monster. He removes my Zaborg from
play. I draw Scapegoat and set it, along with the Morphing Jar.
He activates Last
Will, summons Exiled and tributes it to get rid of my Morphing Jar and gets a
Shining Angel. He attacks with the Angel and I take it. When he attacks with the
Sorceror, I activate Scapegoat.
I draw Change of Heart
and take his set DD Scout Plane. Meh. I tribute it for Thestalos and take a
Fiend Megacyber out of his hand. I do a little burnage/hand control and then
attack his Chaos Sorceror for 100 more damage. Just to be on the safe side now,
I Morph a token into TER and take his Angel,
too.
He draws and sets
another S/T.
I attack with
TER.
He draws and sets
another S/T.
I draw Heavy Storm and
set it, then attack with TER. I'm slowly whittling him
down.
He uses Call of the
Haunted to get his Chaos Sorceror back and removes Thestalos from play. Oops.
Shouldn't have done that! Although it really doesn't
matter.
I activate Heavy
Storm. He uses Enemy Controller to turn TER to defense. I can't attack with
nothing. I set Forceful Sentry.
He draws and set a
monster.
I draw Pot of Greed
and a play it. I get a Scapegoat and a Nimble. I suck up his set monster with
TER. It's Fiber Jar. I end my turn.
He draws a card and
ends his turn.
I draw Mobius and play
Forceful on his ugly BLS and put it back into his deck. I tribute TER for Mobius
and attack for 2400.
He top decks BLS
again! What! He special summons him and gets rid of my
Mobius.
Well, I Swap a token
for his BLS and attack twice for the win.
GAME
2
He sided decks a ton
of cards. I side deck a whole bunch, too. 3 King Tiger, 1 NoC, Divine Wrath, 2
Magic Drain and Torrential.
This game goes in his
favor because I make a critical error mid game that costs me. I Premature Burial
a King Tiger to attack a defense position GAF. When he activates Book of Moon to
it, I fail to tribute the Tiger for a Zaborg and that proves to be the turning
point in the game.
GAME
3
Well, he side decked a
lot of higer attackers than usual so, I go back to the Nimbles for the Tigers
and leave all the other changes.
I go first and draw a
Nimble, Change, NoC, Sinister, Scapegoat and Pot. I play Pot of Greed and get
Metamorphosis and MST. I set the Goat and the Nimble and end my
turn.
He sets 1 S/T and one
monster.
I draw Premature
Burial and hate to do it, but play Change of Heart on his face down monster. I
knew it! It was a DD Scout Plane. I go ahead and flip up my Nimble and attack
him for 1800LP damage. Go NIMBLE!
He activates Last
Will, tributes for Zaborg and destroys my Nimble. Go NIMBLE - to the graveyard!
He gets another DD Scout Plane with Last Will and attacks. I activate
Scapegoat.
I MST his Torrential
and that was a stroke of luck. I Morph a token into TER and take his Zaborg and
attack.
He plays
Reinforcements of the Army and gets a Strike Ninja. He sets a
monster.
I NOC his set monster,
fully expecting it to be the Strike Ninja and it's a DD Warrior Lady. Whew. I
attack with the TER and he chains Book of Moon. I set Ring of
Destruction.
He summons the Strike
Ninja and I don't Ring it because he'd just remove it from play and I'd Ring
nothing. I let him attack my face down TER.
I Premature Burial my
Nimble and tribute it for Mobius. I declare the attack and he removes the Strike
Ninja and I attack him for 2400LP damage.
I'm winning, 7200 -
2000 and simply Ring my Mobius in his draw phase for the match
win.

CHAOS/MORPH
Hi, T. I know you are
reading this and I hate your deck with a passion. Lol.
GAME
1
Crap. I get killed.
Baltar shuts me down but later, I discover the cards negated couldn't have been
negated and I could have won. Oh well. Live and
learn.
GAME
2
I go to my side deck
and do some top secret arranging. This duel went on forever! I'm not going to
bore you with the details but I had 8 cards left in my deck when I finally
managed to Ring a Nimble for game! Brutal.
GAME
3
He sets one monster
and one S/T.
I draw Torrential,
Heavy Storm, Nimble, Change of Heart, TiV and Call of the Haunted. I Change his
Spirit Reaper, Heavy Storm his Scapegoat, which he activates, and I summon a
Nimble and attack two of his tokens. I set
Torrential.
He sets 2 S/T and
summons a King Tiger. Hmm. How interesting. I Torrential.
I draw a Gorilla and
attack. He activates another Scapegoat. I attack a token. I set
Call.
He sets a
monster.
I attack his Serpent
with the Gorilla.
He draws, sets a
monster .
I attack his Serpent
again. I'm afraid of Torrential being one of the cards he has set. I set
Ring.
He sets another
S/T.
I attack a token this
time for a change of pace.
He activates change of
Heart on my Gorilla and I Ring it.
I summon TiV and he
Torrentials.
He summons Reflect
Bounder adn attacks me for 1700.
I draw Metamorphoisis
and Morph my Sinister into TER and take his Reflect Bounder and attack. He
activates Scapegoat again.
He activates
Metamorphosis and I Drain it. Ha. He plays Card Destruction and I only have one
card so, I get Breaker. He gets four cards. He plays Painful Choice and offers a
bunch of light and dark crap, as usual, and I give him an Airknight. He uses
Monster Reincarnation to get his TiV and summons it, discarding to destroy my
TER. He Premature Burial's his DMoC to get his Metamorphosis back that does it
for me. I summon Breaker to break the Premature Burial and he Morphs a token
next turn to take my Breaker and I lose to my own strategy. That's
sucky.

Oh well. Swiss format
means I still may be alive. Sometimes I get dropped and sometimes I don't. My
daughter was 1 - 1 and she got dropped. I didn't. Go
figure.
ROUND 3
MONARCHS VS
FIRE
OK. This guys comes up
and says he is going to lose because he has to duel me. I tell him he has as
good a chance to win as anybody else. He sits down and pulls out his deck. It is
not sleeved. Oh well. Yeah. He is going to
lose.
GAME
1
I lose the die roll
again and he choses to go second. Ok. Whatever. I get Swords, Pot of Greed, NoC,
Bottomless, Zaborg and Creature Swap. I activate Pot, hoping to grab a
summonable monster and get Metamorphosis and Heavy Storm. Not good. I set
Bottomless, activate Swords and end my turn.
He sets 2 S/T and a
monster. Lucky me.
I draw Scapegoat
and NoC his Neko Mane King (someone actually plays with this card?) and
end my turn.
He sets another
monster.
I draw MST and he
activates Backfire. I activate Scapegoat and Swap a token for his face down
Thing in the Crater.
He sets another
monster.
I tribute for Zaborg
and destroy his set Raging Flame Sprite. He Trap Hole's Zaborg but who
cares?
He sets another
monster and another S/T. Zzzz. I'm falling asleep
here.
I finally decide to
play Heavy Storm after my Swords is gone and I don't care about protecting my
Bottomless anymore. I Change of Heart his face down UBK and attack the token I
swapped earlier.
He summons a Blazing
Inpachi and attacks a couple of tokens.
I Morph my remaining
token to take his Inpachi and attack his UBK.
He sets a
monster.
I draw Snatch and
attack his set Gaia the Combustible Soul.
He draws and ends his
turn.
I draw Morphing Jar
and attack again. I have field and hand advantage so, I don't want to give him
anymore cards by setting the Jar, so I end my
turn.
He plays Molten
Destruction and summons another Blazing Inpachi. Since he can't attack anyway, I
don't care.
Heh Heh. I MST his
Inpachi on my TER and suck up his other one and attack him for 1850. I set my
Snatch Steal as a bluff.
He sets another
S/T.
I draw a Nimble, set
it and attack him for 1850 again.
He removes a fire
monster to special summon Spirit of the Flames and activates The Fruits of
Kazuky's Study and arranges the top 5 cards in his deck into whatever order he
wants and I don't care because I'm going to win on my next turn. He can arrange
ALL the cards in his deck if he wants. LoL.
I Snatch his Spirit
and attack him with TER for the game.
GAME
2
Wow. More of the same.
I only take damage from his Backfire which I never got rid of or cared to get
rid of because I willingly take 500Lp damage when I am hitting my opponent for
over 2000 each turn. Big, fat, hairy deal. How did this guy get to the third
round?

MONARCHS VS CHAOS/MORPH AGAIN
Sometimes I hate Swiss
format. Especially when I have to play people I have already played
before
GAME
1
We go at it for a long
time. We hit each other and both stall with TER forever. I'm at 1400 and he's at
1500 when I Ring Breaker for the draw.
GAME
2
Early in the game, he
summons Magical Scientist, Pays 3000 to get Baltar, Ryu Senshi and Reaper on the
Nightmare and Metamorphosis all three of them and I quit. That was
stupid.
GAME
3
Finally, a game that
was short and sweet. It looked bad for me early on when he got Dark Ruler out on
me, but I used Change of Heart on him and tributed him for Thestalos and pulled
out BLS from his hand. WoOT!
GAME
4
I side deck in some
spell negation for this last duel. Once again, we have a very long, drawn out
exchange of blows and stalls with TER. The duel took all of our cards and he was
going to lose because he only had one card left in his deck, so he just played
Ring of Destruction on my Zaborg to kill himself.
Heh.

FINALS
MONARCHS VS
WATER
Well, a water deck in
the finals. It must be pretty good although I did see the tail end of his semi
final match when it was tied one and one and his opponent made an error by not
activating Magic Drain to his Premature Burial when he had no cards in his hand.
Well, he Prematured Jinzo and that was all she wrote because his opponent had
nothing but set traps.
GAME
1
I lose the die roll
again. He sets a monster and three S/T and activates ALO. Wow. He just put
almost his whole hand on the field. Heavy Storm, Heavy Storm, Heavy
Storm....
I draw Change of
Heart, Gorilla, Scapegoat, Call of the Haunted, Ring and Premature Burial. I
decide to only set the Scapegoat to see what he's planning and to hopefully
stall a little to draw into my Heavy Storm.
He flips up his set
Tribe (? OK. Whatever) and attacks for 1800. I do not activate my Scapegoat,
which I could have done, maybe forcing him to discard one of the only two cards
he has in his hand but, I do not. he sets another monster and ends his
turn.
I draw Behemoth and
use Change on his TIV. I attack his set Troop Dragon (? OK. Whatever) and
discard for aqua. I set the Behemoth and end my
turn.
He sets another
monster and another S/T.
I attack his Troop
Dragon with the Behemoth. I set Call of the Haunted, Premature Burial, Ring and
Morphing Jar.
He summons a Gagagigo
and I Ring it.
I flip up my Morphing
Jar and get a bunch of stuff and play Painful Choice. I offer him Enemy
Controller, Thestalos, Bottomless, Forceful and Sinister. I really only wanted
the Serpent anyway. I Morph a token into TER take something, I forgot, and Swap
his Bugroth for my Morphing Jar. When I attack he activates Tornado Wall. That's
a bother.
He just sets stuff for
a while and I draw Breaker and summon him to get rid of hi ALO and then start
attacking with the TER. He Sak Armors my TER and Rings my Breaker and that sucks
but I tribute his the Bugroth for Zaborg and attack with the Behemoth for a good
bit of damage.
When he uses Change of
Heart on my Zaborg as a last ditch effort to defeat me, I tribute my Twin Head
for Enemy Controllers effect and I win on the next
turn.
GAME
2
How did this deck get
into the finals? After I Painful Choice all 5 of my tribute monsters to him, he
gives me Mobius and I Premature Burial Jinzo, Change his Troop Dragon to tribute
for Mobius and destroy his ALO and some other nonsense, all he could do was
stall a little with a couple of Troop Dragons. That was really easy compared to
a lot of the other duels I had suring the
day.
Well, the Monarchs are
VICTORIOUS again! WoOT! I get my packs and pull nothing!
OK, well, we were
really late getting to the second tournament of the day by about an hour. We
called and let them know we were coming, so they didn't start signing up until
we got there.

MONARCHS VS
BEATDOWN
GAME
1
I roll a one. I lose
the die roll again. He sets 2 S/T and summons a
Gorilla.
I draw 2 Nimble,
Zaborg, Mobius, TiV and Scientist. Hmm. Not good at all. I set the Nimble and
that's it.
He summons a Spear
Dragon and attacks my Nimble. I get the other and he attacks it with the
Gorilla. My LP sits at 8200 but I am in
trouble.
I draw MST and use it
to get rid of his Torrential Tribute. That's good. I summon TiV, discard for
beast and attack his set Spear Dragon.
He uses Hammer Shot on
my TiV , summons a Gorilla and attacks my for
2000.
I draw Swords and
summon Magical Scientist and pay 2000 for Ryu and Dark Blade the Dragon Knight.
I attack with Dark Blade and remove his Spear and Gorilla from play. I activate
Swords and he Drains it. I can't discard, so I have to let it
go.
He summons Breaker and
attacks my Scientist.
I draw Scapegoat, set
it and a Nimble.
He attacks my Nimble
and then Breaks my Scapegoat, which I
activate.
I draw a Gorilla and
attack his Breaker.
He sets an S/T and
uses Smashing Ground on my Gorilla. He summons another Spear Dragon and attacks
a token.
I draw Swap and Swap a
token for his Spear Dragon and tribute it for Mobius and he Book of Moon's him.
Ah well, such is life.
He sets a
monster.
Heh, I get to Swap
another token for his face down Fiber Jar and I tribute it for Zaborg and
destroy the token I just Swapped. He says, "That's B.S." but didn't use the
initials. I attack him.
He uses Change on my
Zaborg and suicides with my Mobius. Dang it.
I draw a Gorilla and
attack with him.
He Snatch Steals my
Gorilla and attacks, I activate Scapegoat.
I gain another
thousand LP. I set Fiber Jar and Ring of
Destruction.
He MSTs my Ring which
I chose not to activate and attacks a token. That was
lucky.
I flip my Fiber after
I gain another 1000LP and get a Gorilla and attack him with
it.
He sets a couple of
S/T cards and Smashes my Gorilla and attacks with his own. I activate
Scapegoat.
I Swap a token for his
Gorilla, summon my own Gorilla and attack for the
win.
GAME
2
I side deck in some
Drains, Jammers and Jinzo. He goes first and sets 1 S/T and a
monster.
I get Magic Drain,
NoC, SoRL, RoD, Nimble and Creature Swap. I NoC our Fiber Jar. Ouch. I really
like my Fiber Jar. I summon a Nimble and he Book of Moons it which I think is
sort of dumb, but whatever. I set Ring.
He NoCs my Nimble. Ok,
well using Book of Moon makes a little more sense now, but on a Nimble? Using
two cards to get rid of a NImble? Hmmm. Doesn't seem to wise to me. He summons a
Gorilla and I Ring it.
I draw Zaborg and
activate Swords.
He sets a
monster.
I draw Mobius. No!
Give me something I can summon please! I set the
Drain.
He sets another
monster. Swords is a good card.
I draw Snatch Steal
and end my turn.
He tributes a set
Spear Dragon for Jinzo and activates his own Swords.
Grrr.
I draw Magical
Scientist and Snatch Steal his Jinzo. I tribute it for Zaborg and destroy his
set DD Warrior Lady. I love Zaborg. He activates Book of Moon and I Magic Drain
it and he can't discard so Zaborg stays face up.
Ha.
He summons TiV. Crap.
Discards for thunder and attacks.
I draw Call of the
Haunted and set it but he summons Breaker next turn and gets rid of it and I
lose.
GAME
3
Another load of top
decking miracles again folks.
I draw Painful Choice,
Zaborg, NoC, Metamorphosis, Swords and a Nimble. I activate Painful adn offer
him Sinister, Scapegoat, Jinzo. Morphing Jar and a Gorilla. He gives me the
Serpent but changes his mind and gives me Jinzo instead. I'm like, Ok, it
doesn't matter I wanted all of the cards so, meh. I summon a Nimble and activate
Swords.
He Book of Moons/NoCs
my Nimble again. He summons Breaker, gets rid of my Swords and attacks me for
1600LP damage. He sets 2 S/T.
I set my Serpent and
activate Metamorphosis which he Drains and I have to discard my NoC to do it. He
Rings my TER and I take another 1600 and he gets Breaker back (which is the
right ruling).
Here's where the top
decking fun begins. He has no cards but top decks a Spirit Reaper. He attacks
the Serpent with Breaker and then the Reaper takes out my
Gorilla.
I top deck Premature
Burial and get my Gorilla back but, I have to sacrifice more LP to do it. Then I
tribute the Gorilla for Zaborg and destroy his Reaper and attack his
Breaker.
He top decks Pot of
Greed and I say that card should be banned. He draws Snatch Steal and a Berserk
Gorilla and uses both to kill me.
WTHE!?!?! I win one
tournament and am out in the first round at another! That's
wacked!
Oh well, it was still
fun and we hung out and ate pizza and dueled some more. I tested out my deck out
deck on someone and it actually worked for once. It rarely does and I've been
trying to build a competitive deck out deck for years but it always sucks. Maybe
with Flaming Eternity, I can add some other cards (I already have three Needle
Worms) to help it out.
