Hi all,

Welcome to today's edition of the tournament report! I hope this writing finds you well and winning!

The weather was beautiful today. After a rather cool morning, the sun came out and warmed us all up for a day of dueling! The French Vanilla coffee from the Dunkin Donuts only added to the warm fuzzy feeling of the sunshine!

There was a good crowd today. There were a lot of little kids and a few guys that have only come occasionally. A couple of people who stopped coming a while back, showed up to say 'Hi!" It was a happy reunion!

Well, just for the heck of it, I bought a Dragon and Zombie structure deck. I gave the Dragon deck to my daughter and kept the Zombie deck for myself. One of my friends asked me to duel and I said, "Sure!" I whipped open the Zombie structure deck and played  with it, straight out of the box. He was using a custom built Fusilier/Machine deck and I took 2 out of three! It was so funny!

The pairings were called and I got out my trusty Monarch deck, which hasn't been changed for two weeks.

ROUND 1
MONARCHS VS WATER

GAME 1

I win the die roll and go first. I draw Creature Swap, Scapegoat, Gorilla, Ring, Zaborg and Metamorphosis. I set the Goat and summon the Gorilla.

He plays Pot of Greed and uses Nobleman of Extermination on my Scapegoat, which I activate. He Reloads for 4 cards and plays Terraforming, retrieving and activating A Legendary Ocean. He sets 2 other S/T cards and ends his turn.

I draw a Nimble, set Ring and attack with the Gorilla. He activates Tornado Wall. I end my turn.

He activates LLAB, turns my Gorilla to defense and destroys it.

I draw MST and use it on his ALO. He Magic Jammers it. I set a Nimble. He's not drawing any monsters and his deck has done nothing but annoy me.

He NoC's my Nimble and sets another S/T. Oh boy. What fun.

I draw my NoC and end my turn.

He summons an Amphibous Bugroth and attacks me directly for 1700.

I draw Enemy Controller and set it.

He attacks with the Bugroth again and I go ahead and Ring him this time. He debates with me, telling me the Tornado Wall stops the damage. I tell him it doesn't stop effect damage and he argues about it. Someone shows him the updated Tornado Wall with the correct text on it and he shuts up and takes 1700LP damage.

In my draw phase he Drops Off my Gorilla. Ok, that was wierd. A Drop Off in a water deck? Hmmm. Whatever. I have to end my turn.

He sets a monster.

I draw a Nimble and NoC his set card. It's a Spirit Reaper. I set my Nimble.

He does nothing on his turn.

I draw Mobius and tribute my Nimble to destroy his ALO and other set card. I leave the Gravity Bind on the field.

He summons a 7 Colored Fish.

I Morph a token into TER and take his 7 Colored Fish. He hates that. I keep attacking him with TER for a few turns until he finally sets a monster. By this time, I have Zaborg in my hand and tribute my Mobius for Zaborg and destroy his set monster, then attack with TER for the win.

GAME 2

He goes first and activates Terraforming, gets ALO, activates it and LLAB. He summons Star Boy and sets another S/T.

I draw Mobius, Zaborg, Creature Swap, Bottomless Trap Hole, Breaker and Snatch Steal. I Snatch Steal his Star Boy, tribute it for Mobius and destroy his ALO and LLAB.

He sets a monster and one more S/T.

I draw Scapegoat and Swap a token for his set Magician of Faith. Ha. He doesn't like that. I attack with Mobius and he activates Gravity Bind. Why didn't I side deck in Jinzo and Royal Decree? Oh well. I think I can win without them anyway.

He does nothing on his turn.

I flip up the Magician of Faith and get my Creature Swap back. I tribute the MoF for Zaborg and destroy his token.

Well, the game goes pretty much like the first game because I Morph a token into TER and take his Gagagigo. Every time he tries to summon a monster, I Bottomless it. He does a couple of goofy things like, tries to activate Tornado Wall without the ALO on the field just to free up his M/T zone and I tell him he can't do that. Later, he tries to activate Michizuri on his turn, AFTER his draw phase when I destroyed a monster in the turn before!. No, no, no. You got to cheat better than that! My monster zone is full too, so I go ahead and NoC a monster of his and he activates the Michizure, this time claiming HE got to pick the monster it destroys! No, no no. You are a bad boy. He finally MSTs the monster attached to TER and I can't attack with nothing.

Well, he gets ALO out along with a Gravity Bind and Tornado Wall and does nothing for many turns. He doesn't summon or set any monster because I would just take it with TER.

I draw a Mobius and tribute TER for him, destroying his ALO and Gravity Bind. Well, I already had a Mobius, a Zaborg and a Twin Headed Behemoth on the field so I attack him for the win. All total, if he hadn't been reduced to zero LP already, I would have done 8700LP damage in one hit. Ouch.

ROUND 2
MONARCH VS HARPIE/WIND DECK

When I first saw the Harpie Lady #1 hit the field, I thought this was going to be an easy duel. Hmm. I was wrong. I should never underestimate any deck, no matter how lame it initally seems.

GAME 1

I win the die roll and go first. I get Thestalos, Breaker, Painful Choice, Fiber, Ring and Creature Swap. I activate Painful Choice and offer him Scapegoat, 2 Nimbles, a Gorilla and Sinister. He gives me the Scapegoat. Hmmm. OK. I set the Goat, Ring and Fiber Jar.

He plays Terraforming and gets a Rising Air Current. He sets 2 S/T and summons Harpie Lady #1. He activates Rising Air Current and I go ahead and Ring her for a boat load of damage to us both.

I draw NoC and flip my Fiber Jar. I get Nimble, 2 Enemy Controller, NoC and Metamorphosis. I set the EC, summon Nimble and attack for 1000.

He plays Giant Trunade, Terraforming and gets another Rising Air Current. He summons A Luster Dragon and spanks my Nimble for a lot and I gain some LP and get the other 2 Nimbles to the field. He sets 2 more S/T.

I draw a Creature Swap and flip up my two Nimbles. I activate Creature Swap and he uses Spell Shield Type 8 to negate it. I use Enemy Controller, tributing one Nimble to take control of his Luster Dragon and attack him for 3400LP. I was going to Morph his Luster into something I could keep, but after I activated Metamorphosis, I looked through my fusion deck and discover I have NO Level 4 fusions! Oh no! I have to give him the Luster back.

He sets a monster and attacks with the Luster Dragon for 2400.

I'm at 1550 and he is at 1500. I draw Breaker and NoC his set Slate Warrior. Lucky me. I summon Breaker, tribute him for Enemy Controller, take his 2400 attack Luster Dragon and hit him for the win. Whew.

GAME 2

He choses to go first and sets 2 S/T and summons Sasuke Samauri #4 and this thing kills me like crazy this duel.

I get Nimble, Scapegoat, Change of Heart, Pot of Greed, Enemy Controller and another Nimble. I play Pot and get Fiber Jar and Premature Burial. Hmmm. I set the Goat, EC and set the Nimble, hoping for him to lose the coin flip.

He summons Twin Headed Behemoth and doesn't lose the coin toss and destroys my Nimble. When he attacks with the Behemoth, I activate Scapegoat.

I draw Snatch Steal and Snatch his Behemoth to attack his #4. Well, he wins the coin flip again! Crap. I can't get rid of that thing. I set a Nimble.

I use Change of Heart on his #4 because that's about all I can do.

To make a long story short, after a Fiber Flip, I get nothing and he gets a Roc and Rising Air Current on the field with another Harpie Lady #1 and whacks me down to zero LP in a hurry.

GAME 3

I go to my side deck this time because he used a lot of traps and also emptied his hand a good bit. I figured I may be able to Magic Drain some of his stuff and tossed in the Decree and Jinzo. I also put in the Torrential because he special summoned Slipheed a lot.

He manages to get Sasuke #4 on the field again and that sucks. I do manage to Magic Drain his Rising Air Current and get rid of two of his #4s early in the duel.

I get TER on the field with a sucked up Luster Dragon and start to shut him down. When I summon TIV and discard for his Slipheed, I start to hit him with TER on a regular basis. My Royal Decree gets 7 "Tooled" (haha) and that sucks. But I get him down to 200 when I flip Fiber Jar and draw Twin Headed Behemoth (as my last card) to attack him for the win.

ROUND 3
MONARCHS VS CHAOS/CREATOR/WARRIOR/THING

GAME 1

I lose the die roll and he sets 2 S/T and summons Getsu Fhuma? Ok. Whatever.

I draw Zaborg, Snatch, Morphing Jar, Breaker, Gorilla and Enemy Controller. I Snatch his Fhuma, summon Breaker and destroy his Spellbinding Circle and attack. He activates Waboku. Meh. Whatever. I set the EC.

He draws, gains 1000LP and sets another S/T.

I draw and he Tornados the Snatch Steal. Ok. Whatever. Thats fine. He's wide open for an attack now. I summon a Gorilla, and attack his Fhuma with it and then directly for 1600 with Breaker.

He MSTs my EC and plays Monster Reincarnation, sending the Creator from his hand to get his Fhuma back. He attacks Breaker for 100LP damage with the Fhuma.

I draw TiV. He asks if the Gorilla's effect of having to attack is a trigger effect and I know he has a Divine Wrath set. I say, "You have a Divine Wrath set." and he looks all amazed. I tell him the Gorilla's effect is continuous and he can not use Divine Wrath on it. I summon TiV. I  attack the Fhuma with the Gorilla, then attack him directly for 1600 with TIV. Not using TiV's effect.

He sets a monster and ends his turn.

I have Zaborg in my hand, he has less than 2000 LP left, so I tribute TiV for Zaborg, and destroy his set Exiled. He activates Divine Wrath, which I wanted him to do, and discards the only card he has left in his hand to destroy my Zaborg. I attack him with the Gorilla for the win.

GAME 2

This game was too funny. Without going into enormous detail, I was getting my butt handed to me on a plate. He got Black Luster Soldier-EotB and Zombrya the Dark out on me, and all I had was a Scapegoat set. He hit three tokens and I only had one left when I top deck Painful Choice. I had already decided I was going to lose so, I offer him two Metamorphosis, Change, Snatch and Ring. I only had 1500LP left, so I wanted him to give me the Ring so I could kill myself and be done with it. Holy Cow, he gives me the Metamorphosis!?! I Morph my last token to TER and take his BLS and I have a Level one, 3000 Attack BRUTAL KILLER on my side of the field and I come from behind and win! Amazing! I win that one because my opponent wasn't paying attention to the duel.

SEMI-FINALS
MONARCHS VS THE "ORIGINAL" CONTROL DECK

If you've been a regular reader of my reports, you may recall the one duelist who copies other peoples decks.Well, this is the original deck the dude copied from. This deck was used by it's creator, a very good duelist and deckbuilder and one whom I respect a lot. Although, I did kill his machine deck with the Zombie Structure Deck. Heh. He's never going to live that one down!

GAME 1

I lose the die roll. He sets a monster and 2 S/T.

I draw a Gorilla, Heavy Storm, Enemy Controller, Swords, NoC and Morphing Jar.  I activate Nobelman of Crossout and he Magic Drains it. I don't discard and I set the EC, the Heavy Storm and activate Swords. His Shining Angel flips up. I set the Morphing Jar and end my turn.

He summons Magical Scientist. I tell him he doesn't want to to that. He is always getting rid of my Morphing Jar. He pays 1000 for TER and takes my Jar. When he sees its my Morphing Jar, he agrees he shouldn't have done that. He ends his turn.

I summon the Gorilla and attack his Scientist.

He sets a monster and one S/T and ends.

Ok this is where it gets sucky. He Forcefuls my Call of the Haunted. He summons a Don, MSTs my Heavy Storm, flips up MOF, MSTs my Enemy Controller, which I chose not to activate, summons Don Zaloog, attacks my Gorilla with the Angel, gets DD Warrior Lady and attacks, removing my Gorilla from play, then attacks with Don, taking out the only card I had in my hand.

It goes downhill from there and I get OWNED.

GAME 2

I go for the standard side deck against this deck. 3 King Tigers, 2 Kinetics, Jinzo and Royal Decree.

I go first and draw Ring, Kinetic, Mobius, Call of the Haunted, Royal Decree and Premature Burial. I set Ring and the Kinetic and end my turn.

He sets one S/T and a monster.

I draw and summon Breaker and he Rings him.

I attack his set Tomato with the Kinetic and he gets Magical Scientist to the field.

I Ring the Scientist in his draw phase. He sets another monster.

I draw Enemy Controller and attack his face down with the Kinetic. It's a Spirit Reaper. I set the EC, Call and the Decree.

He sets another face down monster.

I attack it with the Kinetic and its a DD Warrior Lady and he removes both from play.

He turns his Spirit Reaper to attack and I use Enemy Controller to turn it to defense and we're not sure if it specifically designates a target and come to the conclusion it does and destroy his Reaper.

I draw a Gorilla and attack.

He uses Exiled on my Berserk.

I draw and he activates Drop Off and I chain my Decree and Call of the Haunted to my Gorilla. At this point, the duel starts to go downhill for him. Later, we suicide TIV's after he wiped my field with his. I Morph a token into TER and take his Don Zaloog late game, and the Decree stops him from doing much. He tries to Snatch my TER, but I had an MST set, so that was really lucky.
When I NoC his MoF next turn, he conceeds.

GAME 3

I side deck one of the Enemy Controller for another NoC because he does set a lot of monsters.

He goes first and I draw 2 Kinetics, Painful Choice, Bottomless Trap Hole and Scapegoat. He sets 2 S/T and that's all.

I draw a Bottomless but he Drops it Off. Meh. I activate Painful Choice and he Magic Drain's it. I think about it for a while and decide I'd better keep the Scapegoat.  He's open for a clear attack now, I summon the Kinetic and attack him for 1350. I set the Bottomless and the Goat.

He plays Heavy Storm and I chain the Goat. He summons Breaker and hits my Kinetic. He sets an S/T.

I draw another Scapegoat. Crap. I set it as a bluff.

He removes the token from Breaker and I can't activate but, at least I got him to waste his token. He attacks another token.

I draw Fiber Jar and think about setting it but, my gut instinct tells me to set the Kinetic and I do.

He plays Change of Heart on my Kinetic and I am glad I went with my initial feelings! He summons a Shining Angel and attacks all my remaining tokens.

I draw Zaborg. Whew. This may help. I tribute the Kinetic for Zaborg and destroy his Angel and he promptly Rings my Zaborg. Oh gragglesmarftz! I'm winning 5050 - 4250. If I don't draw an attacker, I'm going to have to set the Fiber Jar . Where are my King Tigers?

He attacks with the Breaker for 1600. Good. He probably doesn't have anything else to summon.

I draw Call of the Haunted. I set the Fiber Jar and the Call. If he NoC's my Fiber, hopefully I can Call Zaborg back for some protection and maybe get a better handle on the duel.

He Exile's my Fiber Jar. Man!

I call Zaborg back and attack.

He Premature's his Exiled and tributes it to kill my Zaborg. I'm mad now. Where are my King Tigers? They could have stopped all this nonsense.

Neither one of use can do much. I top deck Swords and activate it.

He top decks Painful Choice and he offers a bunch of stuff and I give him Jinzo.

I top deck my Morphing Jar and hope it will help but, it could kill me. I need the cards so, I set it.

He summons Magical Scientist! What!?! He pays 1000 for Dark Baltar and once again, he negates my Morphing Jar. He attacks me for 300 with the Scientist. I'm still winning 1550 - 750 but we're both top decking and I draw Ring. I Ring his Scientist but he summons a Tomato or something like that and kills me.

That was really disappointing. I couldn't believe I NEVER drew a single King Tiger in our last two duels. That was really unfortunate for me.

So, that's it for this week. Nothing real controversial happened to me during any of my duels, but there were a few dudes who rarely come who thought they were Yugioh experts and were mostly argumentative. I dueld two of them, the Water deck and the Wind deck. I thrashed them both. One of them was always talking big and bragging. He claimed he was going to judge today and I'm thinking, "I have only seen you here one time, so why would the owner let you judge? He doesn't know you from Adam." One of the others did go on to win the tournament with a beatdown deck with equips in it, amazingly enough! Go figure. It wasn't the local crews day, I suppose.

That's it for today! Until next time, happy dueling!
