RegnR8's Return of the Pandas
Tournament Report for 8/27/05

Hi all,

Welcome to this week's tournament report. I hope this writing finds you well and winning!

Of course, the topic on everyone's lips this weekend was the upcoming ban list. All of the higher level players who consistantly make it to the semifinals, attend regionals and have gotten their invites to Nationals, all agree the new list is good. The noobs, scrubs and lamers, hate it.

Enough of that, because my article on Realms goes into more detail about that, and this is, after all, a tournament report.

Back by popular demand this week is the Panda deck. I made some changes to it a couple of times today, once before the tournament, again in between tournaments, and after the tournament. This is what it looked like after the second tournament:

Return of the Pandas

x2 Gyku-Gire Panda
x2 Dark Driceratops
x1 Sangan
x1 Exiled Force
x1 Morphing Jar
x1 Sinister Serpent
x2 Asura Priest
x1 Tribe Infecting Virus
x1 Breaker the Magical Warrior
x2 Berserk Gorilla
x1 Bazoo the Soul Eater
x1 Goblin Attack Force
x1 Enraged Battle Ox

x1 Pot of Greed
x1 Graceful Charity
x1 Delinquent Duo
x1 Snatch Steal
x2 Enemy Controller
x1 Heavy Storm
x1 Mystical Space Typhoon
x1 Premature Burial
x2 Nobleman of Crossout
x1 Swords of Revealing Light
x1 Giant Trunade
x1 Big Bang Shot

x1 Mirror Force
x1 Torrential Tribute
x3 Ojama Trio
x3 Final Attack Orders
x1 Call of the Haunted
x1 Ring of Destruction

It's silly, I know. I decided to have fun today, no matter what deck I faced. I was sure to get slaughtered by the typical chaos hoohah but, I didn't care. I'm going to rebuild this deck though for sure. I think it'll be good post ban, especially with the Idomitable Fighter Lei Lei, a nice beast warrior that can benefit from Enraged Battle Ox and Final Attack Orders. Yes!!! It still sucks that I have to run Breaker and Tribe for two monster slots. I thought I may face a couple of mill decks this week, so I side decked in a couple of Neko Mane King. I never used them though.

ROUND 1
PANDAS VS FAIRY

Ok. Well, in theory, this gentleman's deck should work, but not in this format. Negate Attack and Waboku stall and it's really annoying because he can't really do any damage to me, he's just protecting himself for as long as he possibly can and it turns out, it isn't long enough. LLAB stalls even longer and I finally get a MST to get rid of it. I nickle and dime him to death. More stall with Magic Cylinder. DoH! Finally, I manage to remove all his stall and an Asura Priest hits a few attack position Mystical Shrine Balls for the win. Dang!

GAME 2

Uh oh. Ojama Trio, Final Attack Orders and an Asura Priest smack him around. Fun time.

ROUND 2
PANDAS VS CCCHAOS

Oh gosh, I am such an idiot. I lose the first game because I forgot to set my Enemy Controller. It was 300 to 200 when he used Call of the Haunted on his Jinzo on his turn! If I had just set the Enemy Controller, I could have turned Jinzo to defense! I already had some Ojama Tokens on his side of the field and my Panda would have freely trampled his Jinzo for the game. DOH!

GAME 2

I keep getting Exiled Force back and reusing him to get rid of everything he brings out. Hah. We trade Ring of Destruction on monsters. Im able to trample his Serpent with the Battle Ox. I hit his DDWL with it next turn and he removes it from play. Darn. That's the only one I run. I manage to win this one with an Asura Priest though.

GAME 3

Oh, so close.....So close....The deck worked beautifully. I managed to lock up his field with 5 Ojama tokens. All I needed was a Final Attack Orders and that would do it. I was holding a Giant Trunade and an Asura Priest in my hand. I was so wanting the 10,000 OTK on this I could taste it. I couldn't draw into the FAO though. I KNEW he had a Call of the Haunted ready to get Jinzo back. He used Ring of Destruction on one token to clear up the slot. My only chance now was to try to lock his field up again. I'm hoping he forgets to chain his Call of the Haunted. I use my Ring of Destruction and Exiled Force on two more tokens. I set my last Ojama Trio. In his draw phase, I activate the Ojama Trio and he jumps up, "I chain my Call of the Haunted to Jinzo!" Crap. I lose then. Darn, that was fun though. After the tournament, I checked my deck and found I was only using two Final Attack Orders instead of three. I changed the deck appropriately.

ROUND 3
PANDS VS CCCHAOS DECK #2

These were a series of duels that really came down to who used their resources better and it wasn't me. The old Pot Delinquent Graceful fiasco really hurt. Both duels were close until my hand runs out. He gets his draw cards and I do not. It's as simple as that.

Well, I'm out of that tournament.

I did buy a box of Cybernetic Revolution, even though I told myself I wasn't. My van is in the shop with over fifteen hundred dollars in repair costs, and I certainly do not need to be spending money I don't have. I do it anyway. I do score some pretty good cards though. Two Cyber Dragon (one Ultimate) and one of all the rest of the dragons. I manage to trade off some stuff immediately.

We went home and had lunch. I wasn't going to go to the second tournament of the day because I wanted to play Guild Wars but, I was bribed by an Amazoness Chainmaster.

I'm glad I went because I had a lot of fun.

Well, this was good. I was in good humor and basically ready to lose in the first round as usual because I wasn't running the deck of choice for the past six months and I didn't care. It was a beautiful day and I was feeling happy.

ROUND 1
PANDAS VS DRAGON STRUCTURE DECK

Wow. I sort of felt sorry for this guy. He had only been playing for a couple of days and bought the structure deck that afternoon. He was older, maybe in his late teens or early 20's, I wasn't sure. He was a really nice guy and I just flippin' muderlized him. I played slowly and announced all phases of play, explained all the cards I was playing and thier effects. He was just really unfamiliar with his deck (Well, it's not like it's really good to begin with). I felt bad killing him as quickly as I did but, hey, we all were new at one time. I encouraged him to continue playing and practicing and to come back next week.

ROUND 2
PANDAS VS OLD SCHOOL BEATDOWN

Before I dueled this round, I wanted to watch the duel going on beside me. It was between a young kid running a GK deck and an older teen using a warrior deck. The match was tied one to one, but the arrogance of the older teen was ticking me off. Earlier in the day, warrior boy was bad mouthing the new ban list, exclaiming how retarded it was and why did they make cards if they were just going to ban them, typical nooB reaction. I really wanted the kid with the GK deck to shut him up. Everytime warrior boy would do something, the GK kid would counter it or bounce a monster back to his hand with GK Guard or something and it was really annoying the teen. Warrior boy fought like crazy to get rid of the GK kid's Necrovalley, but he always had another one ready. It was too funny. When the GK kid DID win, and move on to the next round, warrior boy jumped up, slammed his fist on the table and shouted, "Fornication Under Consent of the King" but in the acronym. He was royally p.o.'d.

GAME 1 and 2

Yeah! I got my butt handed to me both games. It was unbelievable. This kid's luck was amazing. Nothing but Goblins, Orcs, Gorillas, and removal. Man, it was great. He was able to kill me fast in both games because he had Premature Burial, Call of the Haunted and Tribe Infecting Virus all within the first couple of turns.

Well, I get eliminated in the second round! Amazingly bad for me. Oh well. We hang out and eat pizza and duel some more. I only have this deck. I took all the others apart and put the cards away. I am not building any new decks (at least I'm telling myself this) until after the ban list. I dueld some other people and the deck worked like a charm....why can't this deck do this during tournament play?

Oh well.

Until next time, happy dueling!
