Tournament Report for April 2, 2005



Hi all,



Welcome to this week's edition of the tournament report.



Today was a Regional Event here in the sunny south and I decided NOT to go. I don't really know why I decided not to go, I just did. I had this wierd feeling like, I wasn't suppose to go. It was sort of like feeling strange before getting on an airplane and, after deciding not to board, the plane crashes. I flip flopped on deciding to go right up until the last minute and literally, an hour before registration was to begin, I decided not to go. So, that is that.



I made a few changes to the deck, of course with the new ban list and FET becoming legal. It was comforting to play without Change of Heart all day. It was a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that card was safely nestled away in a binder. I added a Skull Servant for fun and he worked. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!



Nothing really hurt me badly today. BLS reared his ugly little head but, I handled him fairly easily.



This is the New Rule of the Monarchs. Return to the Throne.

Even with several of the regulars dueling in Marietta for the Regional event, there was a good crowd. I was actually surprised at the number of people there. I expected fewer people but, there were the ususal crowd, plus a few new and unfamiliar faces.



ROUND 1
MONARCHS VS BEATDOWN/BLS



GAME 1
Awful. I draw nothing but NImbles early in the game and when they are gone, I get nothing else but destroyed in a hurry. Not a good start to the day.



GAME 2
Heh. A good duel all the way. He did Mirror Force one Gorilla. Big deal. This was the only time Mirror Force hurt me toady. Breaker, Heavy, MST and Mobius took care of it every time but this once. I had LP, field and card advantage when he special summons BLS and attacks my Zaborg and one of my Gorilla. Next turn, I Snatch his BLS and attack his TIV and again with the BLS and the Gorilla for game. Get that guy out of here!



GAME 3
Early game, Bottomless Trap Hole takes care of his BLS. Hahaha! I Morph a token into TER and take his Sangan and keep attacking him for 1000LP a turn. He finally has to Cylinder once to keep from taking the thousand. TER stalled so well, I kept tributing other monsters for Mobius and Zaborg to take out any threats. I play Delinquent Duo on him and he is top decking and taking 1000LP a turn. I set a Magician of Faith, waiting for the right time to get my Delinquent Duo back. When he uses Phoenix Feather to put his Lightning Vortex back to the top of his deck when he had two cards in his hand, I decided the time was right for Duo again. I flip my MoF, get Delinquent back and play it, taking the last two cards from his hand. He draws a useless Lightning Vortex. I finall tribute TER for Zaborg and destroy his set monster and attack. He activates Widespread Ruin but, it's too little too late.



ROUND 2
MONARCHS VS EQUIP BEATDOWN



Oh man. Maha Vailo. Axe of Despair. Horn of the Unicorn. Pure Crap.



GAME 1
My Reapers and TER frustrate him to no end. He keeps having to use his equip cards to attach them to my Reapers just to get rid of them. LoL. I summon a Skull Servant and the look on his face was priceless. When I Morph it to TER and take his monster, I kill him. 8000 - 0. GG.



GAME 2
He summons a Gagagigo with an Axe on it and Serial Spell. Dude, this guy is desperate to power up everything. MST takes off his Axe. I laugh. My scapegoats are killing him because he has this monsters attack at a jillion and he can't touch me. TER comes out to play again and crushes him. Royal Decree negates his Draining Shields and Bottomless Trap Hole. Haha. 8000 - 0. GG. Again.



ROUND 3
MONARCHS VS SOME SORT OF STALL THING



GAME 1
Sakaretsu Armor and Torrential slow me down, but thats about all. Raging Flame Sprite attacks me once, but Zaborg takes care of her and another thakes out his set Cyber Jar. 7800 - 0. GG.



GAME 2
He stalls with Gravekeeper Guard, tossing my Gorilla back to my hand, but he has nothing else and eventually I get to attack him. After a Cyber Jar flip, he uses Special Hurricane (?)and destroys all our monsters. Duh. That was stupid. I get a Nimble and Sangan out on him. Later, I get a Reaper out, too. He keeps drawing nothing but Spell and Trap cards so, my Sangan, Nimble and Spirit Reaper finish him off. Too funny.



SEMI-FINAL
MONARCHS VS WATER/STALL



This guy was sitting close to me most of the day long and everytime I looked over, he had a field full of Spell/Trap Cards and monsters. Bugroths with ALO were hurting his opponents along with LLAB while Tornado Wall protected him. I kept wondering how in the world he kept all that out on the field.



GAME 1
LoL. I made fast work of him. An early Mobius took out all his S/T cards. A Zaborg takes out his monster and soon, a Reaper starts to take out his hand.



GAME 2
I side deck in a Jinzo, becasue he used a lot of traps. Curse of Royal especially was annoying. Once again, I dominate. Bugroth hits me directly a couple of times but, TER takes care of it and he can't get rid of it.



FINALS
MONARCHS VS FINAL ATTACK ORDERS



Wow! This fellows deck is absolutely AMAZING! I love it because it is so original and, if the right cards are drawn early enough in the duel, it can be game over in one or two turns. Ojama Trio, Final Attack Orders and Asura Priest is 6000 damage right there. I've witnessed this deck lock a field up with 5 tokens, turn them all to attack with Final Attack Orders, Giant Trunade and summon an Asura Priest for an OTK. 10,000LP damage in one turn. It's really good because I BUILT IT! I loaned it to this guy to play with today and it made it to the finals!! LOL. I was going to let him use the deck for Regionals but, since we didn't go, I let him use it anyway.



Oh BTW, It's never defeated the Monarch deck though.



GAME 1
A first turn Delinquent reduces my hand and he MST's my Ring before I can use it. He gets a Goblin out with a Final Attack Orders. I am losing 2300 - 8000 until he makes a fatal error. He tributes the Goblin for a Fiend Megacyber for some ridiculous reason (I about smacked him on the head) and I Bottomless it. I get a couple of Gorillas out and come from behind to win. If he hadn't tributed for that Fiend, he probably would have won.



GAME 2
I side deck in Jinzo. Man, it was over fast. Ring takes one monster out, Bottomless takes out another, Zaborg takes out the third. He is at 2500 LP when I Call of the Haunted my Magician of Faith back and attack him with Zaborg and the MOF for the win.



Hooray! The Monarchs have returned to the Throne! Two weeks in a row they are #1. It is a sort of hollow victory because, I have to admit, a lot of the best players were not at the tournament today. I really only had one person who gave me any sort of real threat. It was in the first round and he handed me the ONLY loss of the day.



I got my packs foir coming in first (and technically in second too). I got an Ultimate Brain Jacker and Shadow Slayer along with another Deck Destruction Virus. Pretty good.



Well, that's it for today! Tomorrow there is another tournament and of course, another tournament report!
