I also have a side deck but did not feel the need to use it so it will not be posted. Today was the "Big Box Tournament" that they hold every few months. The entry fee was $75 which includes a box of 24 and participation in the tournament. I was feeling pretty good about it coming into the tournament.

Round 1- Drizzt vs Lary and his faries

Duel 1

I started off with a good hand. I used ring of destruction on his Agido(?) to bring us both down to 6500. I used heavy storm and took out his Sanctuary in the Sky and 3 other m/t cards. Once I had his field cleared, I set TT and scapegoat. He summoned one of the Agents and I activated TT. I chained scapegoat to his entrance to main phase 2. Next turn I activated vortex discarding serpent. I then summoned my Don Zaloog and activated United We Stand on it. I attacked for 5400 leaving him at 1100. He had nothing and I finished him off next turn

Me- 8000-6500-6300

Lary- 8000-6500-1100-0

Duel 2

I don't remember much about this duel early on. He hit me for some minor damage early but I finished him off with BLS

Me-8000-6100

Lary-8000-4900-2600-0

Round 2-Drizzt vs Jessie (Phoenix/Horus)

Duel 1

I was a little nervous at first, because I knew Jessie was good from what I had heard about him. This one was close. We traded blows for a while until I got rid of his phoenix with my DDWL. Then after a cyber flip he destroyed one of my monsters with one of the 2 horus lv 4s he had on the field. He got lvl 6 and ended. Then he got out lvl 8 and I was a bit worried. Then I drew my tribe and summoned discarding for dragons. From there it was downhill for him and I won.

Me-8000-6800-5300-4800

Jessie-8000-7200-5700-3300-0

Duel 2

This duel was much easier than the first. He did not have a good opening hand and never drew the cards he needed. I started with a duo that hurt him a lot. I got him down to 500 with my Breaker, Tribe, and Blade Knight. He drew and said that's game.

Me-8000-7000-5600-4900

Jessie-8000-6300-2600-1200-900-500-Scoop

Round 3 Drizzt vs Glen (balanced but powerful deck)

My spirits were high at this point and I was feeling very confident when I heard the pairings for the next round. When I heard I had to play Glen, my heart sunk. I haven't played him in about two years but I remember him being one of the best then and from what I heard, he still was. He is one of those guys that live for the game. A game that he is very good at, I might add.

Duel 1

I got murdered. He got me with Jinzo early and then I finally top-decked a Snatch Steal that gave me field advantage, but I couldn't get rid of it so as soon as I started whittling him down, his lp went right back up. Finally, it was destroyed and I was on the verge of making a huge comeback when he ringed his Jinzo that he got back from call of the haunted for game.

Me-8000-6900-6400-6100-4500-2700-2300-0

Glen-8000-7900-6100-7100-8100-9100-7500-5500-5200

Duel 2

This was closer but a lot quicker. He got out injection fairy lily and got me down to 2400 within a few turns. I got rid of all his monsters and started my comeback. I hit him for 5600 in one turn with Mataza and Bls. But it was all in vain because of a top-decked Tribe. He discarded for warrior and attacked leaving me at 1400. I set a MoF and my monster reincarnation as a bluff. I think he fell for it because sure enough, he didn't attack. I flipped my MoF and got lightning vortex back. Though with no cards in my hand, it didn't really help me. At the beginning of his next turn he checked the lp and noticed I was at 1400 and said that he didn't realize I was that low. He set a m/t and ended. Well, he had just enough to take me out by ringing his tribe.

Me-8000-7000-3000-1400-0

Glen-8000-2400-2300-700

Well it was single elimination so that was it. I congratulated Glen for defeating me in a great duel. I had an extremely fun time playing against him. He went on to win the tournament defeating a younger kid that I creamed afterwards. I don't think the kid deserved the 2nd place, but all the younger kids got a bye in the 1st round which I guess is fair b/c they pay just as much money and play people older than them that have more money than they do but in a tournament where the prizes are high, it kind of upsets me that I beat him so easily in free duel afterwards and he walks away with 2nd and $80 dollars while I get 5th and nothing but the entrance box(don't get me wrong it was a great deal on the box and tourney and I had a great time it just kind of makes me upset). Oh well, congratulations to him for making it that far.

Afterwards people were battling for an extra half of a box from SoD. People that had been eliminated in the first round already had around 20 points and I just played around that I had very little chance of catching up. In free duels I went undefeated losing only one duel (not match) to this one kid running zombies. I had fun though I didn't even come close to getting the half of box lol. It worked out well though because Alex ended up getting it and finally got the Horus lvl 8 that he needed. Since I already have one I am glad he got it. After opening my box and I got some very successful pulls, I talked with Brandon, Marcus, and Alex down in the food court. They decided that I should be part of their team for the Shonen Jump tourney in June at Charlotte, NC. Since I have access to most of the cards ever printed through my friends, I told them that I would try to get the necessary cards they needed to add to their decks to prepare for the competition. I had a great time today and can't wait until the next time I can come. I can't come very often b/c I live about an hour away from the mall due to traffic (in actuality its only about 30 miles but it goes through downtown). After the tourney I decided to add my Silent Swordsman lvl 5 in for a total of 42 cards. Props and Slops time!
