Hi all,

Welcome to this week's edition of the tournament report.

For all of you who may have noticed, I haven't written up a report in a couple of weeks. I was in Nashville one weekend. The second weekend we were at Six Flags over Georgia and I did so poorly in the tournament Sunday, I didn't bother writing up a report.

Well, I am back and I have a new deck I am trying out! The Monarch deck is still alive and kicking but today, I wanted to try something new. Saturday, the Monarchs got kicked out in the second round. My daughter's Dragon deck totally thrashed me. King Dragun, Jinzo and Horus Lv8 is pretty hard to get rid of....gulp. Sunday, I decided I would fool around with this deck. I really didn't have a side deck so, I just took some cards from the Monarch's side deck and then filled it out with a bunch of Trap Hole and one more Bottomless. I couldn't side deck the Royal Oppression because this deck is all about special summons so, they really would have hurt.

Get ready to be shocked folks.....

I added a BLS to this deck! GASP! I know, I still hate BLS but I didn't want the deck to be all Fire and Pyro simply because of the Phoenix. Since I chose to use some MoF and Apprentice Magician to get Hand of Nephthys, I figured I'd toss him in. I also felt the deck was weaker than the Monarch deck so, I needed to toss in as much of the "staple" stuff as I could. I typically do not main deck Mirror Force nor Torrential but I thought the deck may need them.

So, here's the deck.

The side deck isn't important right now. I don't really think I will use this deck much, but it performed far better than my expectations so, I may tweak it a little and keep it around for a bit and see how it goes. I didn't have many opportunities to play test this before the tournament so, I didn't really know what to expect.

ROUND 1
PHOENIX VS NOOB

Games 1 and 2

Hmm. Nothing much to write here. He made the typical noob errors like trying to activate traps from his hand and summoning monsters in face up defense position. The first game was over in about three turns. The second game he Snatch Stole my TER and I ended up gaining 10,000LP from that! The final score was 17,200LP to negative 1100LP. I paid for Premature Burial. Oh well.

ROUND 2
PHOENIX VS ZOMBIE

This is only a zombie structure deck slightly modified.

Game 1

I have a strong opening hand and dominate from the start.

Game 2

Oops. This one was a little harder than the first. Unbelivably, a Wave Motion Cannon whacked me for 3000Lp damage and I could not get rid of his Call of the Mummy! He kept bringing out Despair from the Dark every time I would get rid of one! He brought out a Double Coston with and Axe on it and that was all it took! I Metamorphosis Sinster and suck up his Double Coston and kill him with it! Ha!

ROUND 3
PHOENIX VS MONARCHS

This match ticked me off. I have dueled this guy in the later rounds of the tournament many times and he has yet to defeat me. Each time we dueled, I would kill him with my Monarch deck and lo and behold, this week he shows up with a deck that is nearly identical to mine. I did not know it at the time, but after the first duel, I was more than a little annoyed. The only cards I saw different than my Monarch deck was Monster Reincarnation and Spear Dragon.
The rest of the deck was just like mine, right down to the Creature Swap and Nimble Momonga.

Game 1

He killed me. He MST's my Ring on his first turn and an early Zaborg
followed by a Mobius wipe me out. After the first duel, I tell him his deck looks
really familiar and he says, "I didn't copy yours." Hmmm. Yeah, right....

Game 2

Since I figured I was probably going to lose anyway, I go to my side deck
and end up with three Trap Hole and three Bottomless Trap Hole just for grins.
They work great. I LMAO when I Trap Hole and Bottomless nearly every thing he
brings out! I get BLS out and smack him around with that. He gets rid of with
something and manages to get a Spear Dragon out without me Trap Holeing it.
Well, I'm winning pretty good and he's top decking so, I Snatch his Spear
Dragon and Morph it into a Darkfire Dragon. He has exactly 1500LP left when he
top decks Heavy Storm and I win with a Darkfire Dragon! Hahahahahahah! That
was funny!

Game 3

Let's just say I kicked his copying booty out of the tournament. Yesssss!!!

SEMI - FINALS
PHOENIX VS CHAOS

Wow. I made it to the semi finals. That was a surprise. Cool.
I have to face Takashi though. Not cool. Ugh.This will be the real test of
the deck.

Game 1

Hmmm. I did pretty well. It was a lot closer than I thought. I NoC both our
MoF on my first turn. We trade damage back and forth for a while. His Royal
Decree stopped my Mirror Force (the one time I actually got to try to activate
it - that's why I usually don't main deck it). I am losing 650 to 1600 when
he RoD's his DD Warrior Lady for the win. That was close.

Game 2

This really irked me. I didn't stand a chance. First, MST takes out my
Bottomless, NoC takes out my face down and then next turn Heavy Storm takes out
the rest. Those three cards kill me. I didn't lose because the deck was weak, I
lost because he got the cards he needed early and I didn't. Oh well. Thems
the breaks...

Well, that's it for this week. I did trade for a few things. I got my second
Ultimate Thestalos and a second Gearfried the Swordmaster and another Toon
Gemini Elf. Yeah, Toon deck coming up.....ha.
