Hi all,

Welcome to my special "day before Hallowen" tournament report. Last week, I took the Monarch deck to victory at one tournament and got eliminated by a warrior deck at another. I had about 32 cards I was considering for my side deck, and since last week's defeat to a warrior deck, I finally decided to round out the side deck with 3 Kinetic Soldiers. I side decked them in a couple of times during the day and boy, they made a HUGE difference. There are still a few cards I need to rethink in my side deck because they aren't doing me any good. The Gilasarus and Mystic Tomato need to be replaced because I never use them. They just aren't necessary. Jinzo may go in the side deck or I may main deck him and run 5 tributes, I don't know.

Here's the deck and side deck as it stands today.

ROUND 1
Monarchs VS Skill Drain

I had to duel Chris in the first round. Chris is 7 (yes, that's right seven) years old. I am 42. Chris is a very good duelist for his age, but makes a few errors here and there. He's very careful and thinks about each move, and takes his time, which is good. He is a good opponent and will become much more formidable with age.

GAME 1

I go first and get a really crappy hand. Zaborg, NoE, Horn of Heaven, Magic Drain and Enemy Controller. I pick up Scapegoat. I set the Scapegoat and Horn of Heaven and have to end my turn.

Chris sets 2 M/T and a face down monster. I'm safe so far.

I draw Mobius. No! I have two tribute monsters in my hand and that's it! I activate Scapegoat and set Enemy Controller. I NoE his Waboku, which he activates, and end my turn.

He flips up Roulette Barrel and I activate Horn of Heaven, removing a Scapegoat token to negate his summon. He pays 800LP for Premature Burial and attacks a token with the Roulette Barrel.

On my turn, I activate Enemy Controller, removing a token to gain control of his Roulette Barrel. I tribute his Roulette Barrel for my
Mobius, destroying his 2 set M/T cards. One was a Waboku, which he activates. Stupid Waboku. I have to end my turn.

He summons Armor Exe., sets a card (I assume it is Skill Drain), and ends his turn.

He activates Skill Drain in my draw phase. He's already paid 1800LP for a Skill Drain and a Premature Burial. I go ahead and suicide my Mobius with his Armor Exe., set my Night Assailant and Magic Drain and end my turn. I know the Night Assailant's effect won't work but, what the heck. I need to set something for protection.

He MST's my Magic Drain. Oh well. He summons a Giant Orc and attacks my Night Assailant.

I draw a Dust Tornado and set it.

He draws and ends his turn, not attacking one of my tokens. Hmm. this is a mistake on his part.

I draw Fiber Jar and set it. I am going to Dust Tornado his Skill Drain and flip Fiber next turn if I can.

He draws, sets a M/T card and ends his turn again. He could have gotten rid of two tokens, but didn't.

I Dust Tornado his Skill Drain, flip Fiber Jar and get Berserk Gorilla, Night Assailant, Peten, Call of the Haunted and Creature Swap.
I summon Berserk Gorilla and attack. He Kuriboh's the attack. Stupid Kuriboh. I set Call of the Haunted and end my turn.

He activates SoRL, sets a M/T, summons Giant Orc and attacks my Gorilla for 200LP damage.

He pays another 1000LP to activate Skill Drain in my draw phase. I summon Peten and Creature Swap his Orc.

He summons a Dark Elf and ends his turn. Another mistake, I think.

I draw Premature Burial and end my turn. Turn 2 on SoRL.

He summons Armor Exe. and attacks the Orc. I take 200LP damage. He attacks with the Dark Elf but I Call a Gorilla back and he doesn't suicide.

I draw PoG and play it. I get Heavy Storm and Enemy Controller. I activate Heavy Storm, set Enemy Controller and Night Assailant. I attack my Peten with a Gorilla, remove him from play to special summon another Peten in defense position and end my turn.

His Armor Exe. is destroyed by it's own effect. He summons a Berserk Gorilla and I activate Enemy Controller, turning it into defense position and destroying it. He doesn't attack with Dark Elf.

I flip up the Night Assailant and eat his Dark Elf. He RoD's my Gorilla. I summon a Peten and attack for a HUGE 700LP damage!

He plays Giant Trunade and that's all he can do.

I tribute my Peten for Zaborg next turn and attack for the win.

GAME 2

I side deck in a NoC and Raigeki Break, taking out Magic Drain and Magic Jammer. His deck is all about traps. The Raigeki Break can help me get rid of any card and NoC will get rid of any facedown card he sets.

He goes first. I draw Heavy Storm, Creature Swap, Snatch Steal, Zaborg and Cyber Jar. Hmm. Not the best, but OK, I suppose.
He sets 3 M/T cards and a monster.

I draw Painful Choice. I play Heavy Storm, getting rid of MST, Enchanted Javelin (?), and a Scapegoat which he fails to activate. Another mistake. I play Painful Choice and offer him 2 Peten, Sinister Serpent, Raigeki Break and a Night Assailant. He gives me a Peten. I remove the other Peten from play to special summon the third and tribute it for Zaborg, destroying his Roulette Barrel and attack. I set a Creature Swap as a bluff, really.

He draws and summons a Berserk Gorilla, ending his turn.

I get Sinister, summon it in attack position and Creature Swap it with his Gorilla. He Kuriboh's my Zaborg attack but takes the  damage from the Gorilla.

Next turn he summons GAF and attacks my Gorilla.

I draw Snatch Steal and get his GAF. I attack with Zaborg for the win.

RECORD 1-0

ROUND 2

Monarchs VS Chaos

GAME 1

Cody wins the die roll and choses to go first. I draw Premature Burial, Call, Peten, Breaker and a Dust Tornado. He sets 3 M/T and ends his turn without setting or summoning a monster. Bad opening hand.

I draw  TIV, set Peten and the Dust Tornado and end my turn.

He draws and ends his turn. Still not good for him. Those 3 M/T's he set are bothering me.

I draw Scapegoat, set it and a Night Assailant.

He draws and finally sets a monster.

I flip Night Assailant, destroy his now usless MoF (he had nothing to get from the graveyard anyway), and attack for a whopping 200LP damage! I end my turn.

He plays Card Destruction, sending his Jinzo to the graveyard. He pays 800LP to Premature Burial him, normal summons an Archfiend Soldier and attacks my face up Night Assailant with Jinzo. Ouch. He then attacks my set Peten with Jinzo. I remove the Peten from play to special summon another to the field. He ends his turn.

I draw Snatch Steal. I Snatch his Jinzo, tribute my Peten for Zaborg, destroy his Archfiend Soldier and attack for 4800LP damage. That was a good turn. I'm winning 5800 - 2200 now.

He plays Giant Trunade, Premature Burials his DMoC, oh no, special summons BLS and gets me down to 2200 in a hurry.

Jinzo gets removed from the field somehow, I forget exactly, and then he RoD's his DMoC for a draw.

GAME 1 (AGAIN)

We re-roll the die. He wins and choses to go first. I get 2 Gorilla, Peten, Dust Tornado and NoE. He sets 2 M/T and a monster.

I draw another Peten and NoE his Dust Tornado which he can't activate and he has to remove his other one from play. I have mine in my hand so, it doesn't get removed.

I summon a Gorilla and attack his Mask of Darkness. He gets nothing from it's effect because no traps are in his graveyard.

I set the Dust Tornado and end my turn.

He MST's my Tornado, activates SoRL and plays Painful Choice. He offers me Injection, TiV, 2 Reload and Change of Heart. I give him a Reload and he plays it. He sets a monster and ends his turn.

I draw Scapegoat and set it, ending my turn.

He flips up MoF and gets his Reload back and plays it. He must be desperate to get Relaod over Change of Heart. He sets another monster and ends his turn.

I draw Snatch Steal and end my turn. Second turn on SoRL.

He flips up ANOTHER MoF and gets Change of Heart this time, he tributes both MoF for DMoC and uses Change of Heart to get my Gorilla. He MST's my Scapegoat, which I activate and then he attacks two of my tokens. I get my Gorilla back at the end phase.

I Snatch Steal his DMoC, summon Breaker and attack with everything I got! It's 5200 - 4500 now, my favor.

He sets a monster card and ends his turn after gaining 1000LP from Snatch Steal.

I attack his facedown DD Warrior Lady with Berserk Gorilla, he removes both from play and I attack with DMoC and Breaker.

He draws and conceeds.

GAME 2

I get Painful Choice, PoG, Zaborg, Peten and Dust Tornado. He plays PoG, sets 2 M/T and a monster. I'm positive it's a MoF again.

I draw Fiber Jar, play PoG and get Horn of Heaven and Scapegoat. I set the Dust Tornado as a bluff to see if one of his set cards was a MST or Tornado. He doesn't respond. I activate Painful Choice and offer him Peten, Sinister, NoE, Heavy Storm and Magic Jammer. He gives me the Serpent. I set Fiber, Scapegoat and Horn of Heaven.

He flips up his MoF (wow, what a surprise), gets PoG back and plays it. He tributes MoF for Jinzo and I chain with Horn of Heaven and Scapegoat, negating the summoning of Jinzo. For those of you who doubt, this is legal because Horn of Heaven negates the summon, so Jinzo is never even on the field to negate my Horn. Since the chain resolves backwards, the Scapegoat tokens are on the field first, then Horn's effect is activated. He plays SoRL and it flips up my Fiber Jar. He sets 2 M/T and ends his turn. I get Gorilla, PoG, Snatch Steal, Bottomless Trap Hole and Scapegoat.

I draw Zaborg and play PoG. I get Night Assailant and Creature Swap. I set the Bottomless, Scapegoat and Night Assailant.

He draws and sets a monster. Could it be a MoF? We shall see.

I draw Call of the Haunted. I activate Scapegoat, turn a token to attack position and activate Creature Swap. I give him the attack position token and take his Mask of Darkness. Hey, it wasn't a MoF this time! I tribute the Night Assailant without flipping it up for Zaborg and destroy the Scapegoat token on his side of the field. He RoD's Zaborg and we both take 2400LP damage. I set Call of the Haunted and end my turn. We're tied at 5600LP.

He sets another monster. Dang! Is it a MoF this time?

I draw Magic Jammer, set it and Call of the Haunted my Zaborg back. I attack his Mask of Darkness and he gets RoD back. Ugh.

He draws, sets the RoD I am sure, and summons Lily. He activates Snatch Steal and I Magic Jammer it. Whew. He plays Card Destruction. He attacks a token with Lily and ends his turn. I get a Mobius in the Card Destruction.

He RoD's my Zaborg again and we're both down to 3200LP. I flip the Mask of Darkness, get my Call of the Haunted back and tribute it for Mobius, destroying his set cards. I attack his Lily and he pays the 2000LP to boost her up. My Mobius is dead but, he can't pay for Lily again. I'm at 1000LP and he's at 1200LP. This is going to be close but, I'm pretty confident I will win on the next turn. I set Call of the Haunted and end my turn.

He draws, and turns Lily to defense position.

I Call Zaborg back and attack his Lily.

He draws and sets a monster and an M/T card.

I take a big chance and pay 800Lp to Premature Burial my Mobius and attack his face down card. It's a Thunder Nyan Nyan. Hooray! I attack with Zaborg for the win!

RECORD 2 - 0

ROUND 3
Monarchs VS A sort of disjointed deck

This time, I duel with someone I never met before. He has like a 60 card deck.

GAME 1

Nothing much to tell here. I dominated early and won 8000LP to 0.

GAME 2

Pretty much a repeat of game 1. He did manage to get me down to 7300LP this time. After the duel, I helped him thin his deck out a lot and give it a little more focus. It was sort of a Dark Magician/Dark Paladin theme, but had way too many cards in it. We thinned it down to 40, made a couple of changes and I traded him some stuff for another Skilled Dark and Double Coston. Later in the day he said it was running much better.

RECORD 3-0
ROUND 4 SEMI-FINALS
Monarchs VS a semi Chaos Beatdown thing. Not too sure. Lots of tributes.

GAME 1

This was a great series of duels. Very enjoyable except for BLS. I hate him.

He wins the die roll and choses to go first. I draw Snatch Steal (I seem to be getting that a lot today), Painful Choice, Sinister Serpent and 2 Creature Swap. Hmmm. Not as great as I'd like but, it's servicable.

He sets 2 M/T and a monster.

I draw Call of the Haunted. Grrr. I activate Painful Choice and offer Peten, Night Assailant, Breaker, NoE and Zaborg. He gives me Zaborg. I summon Sinister in attack position and activate Creature Swap. I give him Sinister and he throws his monster card in the graveyard. It's a Spirit Reaper. I asked him why he did that and he said Spirit Reaper was destroyed by Creature Swap. I told him it wasn't. Not only is the Reaper face down and can't be destroyed because of that, Creature Swap does not specifically designate and target anyway. He debated with me that his Reaper was destroyed and he checked the ruling and he use to play that combo and blah, blah, blah. Well, he was wrong anyway and I kept trying to explain and he finally said, whatever and I kept his Reaper.

He draws and plays Painful Choice. He offers Jinzo, End of Anubis, Horn of Heaven, Jowgan (?) and Sinister. I give him Jinzo because I can Creature Swap with him again next turn! He tributes my Serpent for Jinzo. He starts looking through his graveyard and then special summons BLS and removes his Spirit Reaper from play. Smeggin' heck! .

I draw Horn of Heaven. I Snatch Steal his BLS and remove it from play. I Creature Swap my Serpent for his Jinzo and he Book of Moon's Jinzo. Argh.

He tributes my Serpent for Zaborg and destroys his Jinzo. This goes back and forth for a long time. He RoD's my Zaborg, I Enemy Controller his, attack it with a Gorilla. We trade life points for a while and he gets me down to 500 late in the duel. He's at 2200LP. I attack his Cyber Jar, then Bottomless Trap Hole his TIV after the flip and he debates about that, too. Well, I managed to get him down to 600LP and he top decks a Spear Dragon to trample my Night Assailant for the win.

He handed me my first loss of the day. Grrr.

GAME 2

I side deck NoC and Raigeki Break for Magic Drain and NoE. I go first and draw Scapegoat, Creature Swap, Gorilla, Horn of Heaven, Peten and then Mobius. Pretty good I think. I set Peten, Horn and Scapegoat.

He draws, sets 3 M/T and summons a Spear Dragon which I negate by chaining Horn and Scapegaot. He Premature Burial's it and attacks a token. OUCH!

I draw Heavy Storm and play it. He chains Waboku and RoD and destroys his Spear Dragon. I'm at 4200LP now and he's at 6100LP. Not looking good. He has one card in his hand so, I'm feeling pretty confident. I go ahead and end my turn. I'll save my big monsters for later.

He draws PoG! Crap! He summons Exiled and gets rid of my Peten without attacking a token first. Mistake. I remove Peten to get another to the field. He sets one M/T card.

I draw and tribute Peten for Mobius, destroying his set BBtD. Bluff City. I remove the Peten for another one. I attack him for 2400.

He draws and sets a card.

I draw another Mobius, tribute it and destroy his set Skill Drain and attack with both for 4800LP and the win. Yeah!

GAME 3

He chose to go first. He sets a M/T card and summons something, I think it was a Gorilla. I could be wrong.

I get a Night Assailant, Call of the Haunted, Premature Burial, Mobius, TiV and another Mobius. Hmmm. I summon TIV and he activates his Horn of Heaven. Blegh. I go ahead and Premature Burial my TIV and attack him for 1600LP damage. Then I set Call.

He draws, sets 1 M/T, plays Cost Down and gets Zaborg out, destroying my TIV. Hmmm. wait a minute. Now that I'm typing this, Zaborg was not tribute summoned so he couldn't have destroyed my TIV with Zaborg's effect. Oh well. Live and learn. He attacks with Zaborg. I'm losing. Bad.

I draw Peten, Call TIV back and discard Peten for TIV's effect, destroying his Zaborg. I remove the Peten to get another, then tribute it for Mobius, destroy his set M/T card and attack with both.

He removes a light and a dark for that retarded should be banned BLS and attacks me twice. That sucks. I forget to get the third Peten. My bad.

I set a Night Assailant, knowing he will simply remove it from play with BLS and attack with something else.

He sets a monster and actually ATTACKS my Night Assailant! I destroy his BLS with it's effect. Oh man, that was lucky! What a huge mistake!

I draw Creature Swap and Swap my set Sinister Serpent for his Spirit Reaper again. He doesn't argue about it this time.

He sets 2 M/T cards and ends his turn.

I draw Heavy Storm! What a break! I play it, tribute his Reaper for Zaborg, destroy my Serpent and attack fo the win!

RECORD 4-0,

FINALS
Monarchs VS Chaos

Hooray! I'm in the finals. For some reason I get paired up with someone I already defeated once today. He said he would go ahead and forfeit and I said no. Even if he wins, it really wouldn't be fair to me because I had beaten him once already but I didn't care. He agrees to duel me and I win the die roll and go first.

GAME 1

I draw Peten, Horn of Heaven, Gorilla, Mobius, MST amd Creature Swap. I set Peten and Horn of Heaven.

He draws and plays Giant Trunade. Darn. He actvates Change of Heart on my Peten. Summons DD Warrior Lady and attacks with both.

I draw and Creature Swap my Peten with his DD Warrior Lady, tribute DD for Mobius, destroy his Negate Attack and attack my Peten. I remove the Peten for another. I set MST and Horn of Heaven.

He sets a monster and ends his turn.

I draw NoC and get rid of our Cyber Jar. I summon A Gorilla and attack with it and Mobius for 4400LP damage. OUCH.

He summons TIV and I negate it by offering my Gorilla for Horn of Heaven. He plays Reload for one card and draws Jinzo and conceeds.

GAME 2.

There is no game two because he forfeits and I win the match! Horray! The Monarchs RULE Absolutely! I lost only ONE game the entire tournament. Good deal!

I get three packs of Soul of the Duelist and get nothing in one pack but pull an Ultimate Armored Dragon LV7 and a Prenumbral Soldier Lady. I also made some killer trades today.

After the sanctioned tournament, we had another unofficial tournament. Sometimes we do this and have an entry fee of two dollars. The 1st and 2nd place get two thirds and one third respectively of the winnings and have to use the money to buy stuff in the store.
I won that one, too! This second tournament is where the Kinetic Soldiers were side decked in a couple of times. I dueled 2 Warrior decks and owned both of them with the Kinetic Soldiers and took out a BLS with one! That was a thing of beauty. I got an Ultimate Rare Spirit Barrier and another Mobius from 2 of the packs I won. Not a bad haul for the day! I may try putting some Limiter Removal in the side deck to beef up the Kinetic Soldiers. Maybe not, that seems a little risky. I don't know. Something to think about.

Well, that'll wrap it up for this report. Until next time, keep on dueling and keep on winning!
