Control in traditional format Location: Eindhoven, Beurshal, The Netherlands Date: friday Nov. 29th 2004 Event: Qualifier for Benelux Tournament Participants: 114 My day started around 7:30 in the morning. I tried very hard to get out of my bed, but it was just a bit too early to me. Luckly I woke up gently. My younger brother came to me saying that I should better use a second creature swap instead of snatch steal. I told him that I was going to play a advanced format tournament. Which I know that there wouldn't be any big trap/magic removals in the game. I made my point I borrowed his blade knight, don zaloog and snatch steal. My snatch steal was snatched by somebody.. sigh!!! After a delightful breakfast made by my mum, I headed to the trainstation. I put up some music to get relaxed. After a while one of my friends, Danny joined me and both of us were talking about what would dominate at this tournament. Danny already qualified for the Benelux Tournament, so he decided to test his new made Deckdestruction deck. I gave him some book of taiyou's to support his deck destruction. His deckvalue must be around 1000 euro's. I said that I wouldn't want to play against that deck during the tournament. Okay, when we arrived at the mall. We had to wait about 2 hours to get in. After a few hours the tournament finally begun. This was the first time I played traditional format with the new restrictions. So, it's going to be a challenge for me and a lot of people. Here's my deck: 17 monsters: BLS-envoy of the beginning Jinzo Mobius the frost Monarch 3x dd warrior lady 2x kycoo 2x blade knight 2x don zaloog breaker magical shining angel exiled force magical scientist tribe infecting virus 16 magic: forceful sentry confiscation 2x smashing ground nobleman of crossout reinforcements of the army scapegoat change of heart creature swap snatch steal pot of greed painful choice heavy storm Mstyphoon warrior returning alive premature burial 7 traps: 2x sakuretsu armor call of the haunted magic drain torrential tribute ring of destruction waboku Fusions: all the staple fusions ofcourse! restrict, balter and senshi sidedeck: mobius the frost monarch horus the black flame dragon lv6 airknight parshath exchange nobleman of crossout 2x book of moon creature swap fiber jar penguin knight compulsory evacuation device mystic tomato spirit reaper magician of faith 2x kinetic soldier My sidedeck is the most important tool. I just didn't know what the metagame will be. That's why I sidedecked cards against, exodia, burn and deckdestruction. I had to play against all those different types of decks I just told you respectively.... We played a swish system. Which means: DO NOT LOSE IN THE FIRST ROUND!!!! 1st Round: Control vs. Exodia 1st duel I flipped heads and I could start the game. I opened with a confiscation. I immediately saw his exodiapiece. I discarded his change of heart, put angel in attack mode and put some traps and ended my turn. I played painful choice in the next turn.. after the 4th turn i dominated the field with jinzo, bls, mobius and don zaloog on the field. 1-0 2nd duel He started his game with messenger of peace. I couldn't go through with my dd warrior ladies and blade knights. Until I drew don zaloog. This game was a stall at the end, but when I tribute summoned Mobius on the field it was all ownage for my monsters. 2-0 2nd round: Control vs. Burn 1st duel This kid couldn't really do much when I cut into his hand with my forceful sentry. I returned his swords of revealing light back into his deck. Knowing he could stall with that card for three turns. I put my dd warrior lady attack and ended my turn. After a few turns he didn't draw any monsters. I won because of his bad hand. 1-0 2nd duel He had a early stall with messenger of peace, but I blew it away with my mobius, and he returned with scapegoats. He then summoned cannon soldier using the scapegoatshooting combo. :) I like this combo a lot! I use it in my burn deck aswell. Anyways, after while I used my jinzo to negate his gravity bind and attacked for the win 2-0 3rd round: Control vs. Deckdestruction 1st duel I had to face somebody that I didn't want to match up to. Danny runned a needleworm, morphing jar deckdestruction deck. This deck was very well balanced with the correct deck destruction cards. I luckly could go first, cutting through his hand with a confiscation. Discarded his shallow grave. Basicly he didn't draw any good monsters, he stalled with messenger of peace, but I kept attacking him with my don zaloog's!!!.. 1-0 2nd duel I knew I would face a hard second duel, so I decided to put some anti deckdestruction cards into my deck. Like fiber jar, penguin knight, nobleman of crossout, another mobius, compulsory and horus lvl 6. I knew I had to break through his stallage. It started very slow, because he could stall with his messenger of peace again. Finally he flipped his needle worm killing a nobleman of crossout, 2x mobius, heavy storm and change of heart. I thought oh my god!! there goes my holiness. I unfortunatly drew a penguin knight :(.... how sad!!! Anyways, I didn't know that BLS and penguin knight could go through his gravity bind and messenger of peace. I never knew that penguin knight could win for me because of his amazing attacking abilities. hahaha after a while I summoned Jinzo with call of the haunted and normal summon don zaloog and attacke for the win. 2-0 4th round: control vs. horus/chaos 1st duel Vincent is a very skilled duelist and he has his mind focussed on this game. This game ended up topdecking for him. He never really could get out his horus. Allthough I know that Horus was in his deck. But I controlled the board with my dd warrior ladies He played cards like enemy controller. So he ended up wasting cards for one turn defense. Which kinda give me the chance to gain cardadvantage. This is one of the main things to aim in my controldeck. I want more cards than you. I won bringing out BLS with warrior returning alive with the combo of painful choice dumping BLS into the grave. I gained fieldcontrol and attacked for the win. 1-0 2nd duel He started to hit me with a few a attacks, I had a green/red hand. NOT GOOD!!!... but I searched my exiled force with reinforcements of the army and gained field advantage again. Slowly I drew a army of monsters and summoned them on the field. He countered with book of moons, and trapcards, like ring of destruction, magic cylinder. But again he was wasting cards. He needs to some heavy monsterremoval. So he set his torrential, and I summoned my donzaloog.. he torrentialed me. I didn't care He torrentialed my only dark into the grave, which I needed for BLS!!.. so I attacked for the win with it. After 4 wins I qualified myself for the beneluxtournament. But Upperdeck wanted us to play one more game. They wanted to have the three best of this tournament. So I faced the father of Thom Klaveris from Belgium. Thom is very skilled. His father is also very skilled. Finals: 1st duel control vs. beatdown/control He played with book of moons and enemy controllers. So he ended up wasting cards to remove monsters again. But somehow we ended up topdecking. We both were summoning and removing the next turn. I ended up winning with BLS, because he raigeki breaked my summoned kycoo. 1-0 2nd duel he fiber jarred twice. I had a great hand first and a bad hand and a normal thand after the third fiber jar. We ended up topdecking again. Amazingly we both topdecked very bad. He drew traps/magics and set them. I drew BLS without any dark in my grave. And Jinzo He luckly drew nothing but that. I drew a dd. warrior lady and set her facedown. He drew again nothing harmful, but he set his dd warrior lady down aswel. I drew a exiled force. So I summoned my jinzo and attacked in deedee. So he gets removed. I somehow won again because of BLS at the end. 2-0 Positive remarks: Get to trade a lot of good promocards, yata and interdimensional matter transporter. I always wanted IMT. I won 20 boosterpacks of SOD. Getting out a ULTRA lv6 and some other good cards. I promised my younger brother to get Mystic swordsman lv 4 for him and amazingly I got one for DMOC. Winning all games with 2-love!!!! Knowing that control can do a lot!!! Mobius being my anti-stallage leader!!!!!! Penguin soldier killing instead of saving my deckdestruction??!?! Negative remarks: I ended up 3rd, because the number 1 and 2 have a better UDE ranking than I do. Penguin soldier not doing his real job.
