Quagmire’s Hand Control

Sacramento Regionals

May 1st, 2004

$15 Entry Fee

Well, after a long await for about two months, I anxiously got up the morning of Sac Regionals ready to go and everything. After a 5-1 finish at Pleasanton and a disgusting DQ to finish it off, I was ready to take on the Valley, and see what Sac had to offer. It lived up to my expectations, and it was a truly great day. Just what happened that day, well read on to find out. What mistakes id I make to prevent Top 8 contention? Read on!! Just what happened that was so dramatic, read on!!

Well, I left my city at 7:45 in the morn, and I got at Cosumnes College at about 8:30. I hung with Kalani and waited for Ryan, Chris, and Tim to show up. They did, and we made decklists, and I was first in line to register. When I walked in, it was a lot better than Pleasanton was, and the atmosphere was just more welcoming. I was waiting to meet up with Edwin (Barret of Avalanche) and he said he would leave at 8:30. He arrived at 10:30. He got there, we talked, and t had turned out that the whole I would be chillin’ with the World of Books crew. That’s an honor, let me tell you. You will never meet a much better group of YGO players such as Avalanche. But more about them later. I registered my decklist, and sat down with my group, and played a little bit. Here’s the deck I ran for Regs:

3x D.D. Warrior Lady

1x Witch

1x Sangan

1x Magical Scientist

1x Yata

1x Tribe-Infecting Virus

1x Breaker the Magic Warrior

1x Sinister Serpent

1x Don Zaloog

2x Magician of Faith

1x Reflect Bounder

1x CED

1x BLS

8x Staples

3x Pre-Negaotrs

3x MST

4x Advantager’s

1x Nobleman of Crossout

1x Imperial Order

1x Call of the Haunted

1x Mirror Force

1x ring of Destruction

2x Waboku

Side Deck: Too lazy to post, just the regular stuff. TTs, Kycoo’s Fiber, Berserk, extra Don, Reaper.

Fusion: Too many to list, (like 120)

Well, I awaited for the first round, and when I looked at the sheet, I was seated at the 1st table. Wow, I thought, how fun! Well, I was ready for first round to start.

First Round: Julien vs. Bryant Conti

What more to say? He was 13 yrs old, and deaf, but he was a good player. I remembering blowing up with CED early both times, and beating down with a Sinister. I was afraid second game when he Delinquented, but he discarded a Dark and I a light, and he Pot, Graceful, Set, End. I put CED in play, nuke, then win with a Sinister. 2-0

Second Round: I check with Team members, and all of them won, except Ryan. The guy I Played next was his opponent, Jan Thao, someone from Stockton. I sit down at Table One again, and we start. I put CED into play early and he… HORN of heavens it….. I said okay. Then, he has 3 Spell set. I draw, he Drops off, I chain my MST to another, then he JAMMERS!! It was so funny!! I was like.. Hmm ok… But yeah, that game I won by a Ring on Skilled Dark. Then Second Game was hilarious. It was funny. I have 2 cards in hand. Tribe and Duo. He has 2 cards in hand. 2 Skilled Dark and a Mage of Faith on the field. I return SS. I say ooo… What life is he at?? He’s at 2400, Im at 4500. I say “Tribe”, name Spellcaster, Duo, atk for 1600, End. He draws…nothing. I atk for game!! 2-0

In between rounds, I chill with Edwin and Brandon from Avalanche, and we just sit and talk, have a good time. Then 3rd Round starts, and I am pumped up.

Third Round: Julien vs. Adam Vandertill

Hmmm. I won this round so quick. He seemed like a good player, but Turn 2 I duster and its Cylinder, 2 Wabokus, and a MST. I said okay. Dark Hole. It’s Fiber. Attack with Yata. Second Game just straight ownage. Painful, Pot, Graceful. Sadly enough, he got 0wned by a Reflect Bounder. 2-0

Fourth Round: Julien vs. Bryant Kongachandra (Galaxy)

Ya know, I have respect for these guys, cause I am friend with Eddy Ang and Curtis. So yeah I sit down to play and I win the first one. Second one, I swear I won but since I pumped with Lily he said I lost. Then, third game, First Major Mistake of the Day. Kay. He has ONE CARD IN HAND. I have FIVE. He is playing the SuperResoning deck with Chaos. He puts down Cannon Soldier, attacks, I take it. Then, with 20 people around, I SUMMON a DON, instead of setting, he knows what it is. Next turn, he calls Scientist, brings out TER, and sucks up, tribs it for Jinzo, attacks, sac for 1500, and Im left with –100. I lost. It is okay though, I have respect to him. And I give props for a kick deck and powerful finish. He got 9th I think.

Record: 3-1

So, standings are put up, and I am 11th out of 189. Not bad I guess. But I was so high up I was scared. I check with Avalanche. And Alex is 3-1, Kevin is 2-2, Brandon is 4-0, and Edwin is 4-0, and Donald is 4-0. So I guess I was doing fine. The fifth round was the downfall of my day. ONE mistake on my part prevented me from going into Second Place. Read on.

Fifth Round: Julien vs. Rob Boyd.

Great. A fellow team member. Not to mention a friend. Well 1st game he gets me, but judges order a reshuffle, and I win the first game with a CED nuke for 3900. Then, second game, he wins with the Top deck of the century. Snatch Steal BLS, rape you with your own BLS, ya know the usual. Then, 3rd game, I almost cried. Look at this

Rob: 0 in hand, 0 on field

Julien: 0 in hand, Reflect, Breaker, and Confiscation on field.

Rob: Draws. Painful. Im at 700. He searches CED, BLS, Ring, monster Reborn, and Call. I give Call to give me a turn to live. He sets and ends. I draw MST and keep it in hand. I said Attack, he calls Jinzo, and I switch to defense. Then, he Raigekis and wins. See where I messed up. I attacked, he Calls Jinzo. I did not know MST cold chain and kill Jinzo. So I gave it to him. I was so mad at myself, which made my record 3-2. I was 11th, and lost to 48th. Sad isn’t it.

6th Round: Kalani vs. Julien

It’s Kalani. Nothing-new there. I 2-0 him so quick its funny. I am 4-2. After Round 6, I am 16th, so I am doing okay…

7th Round: Julien vs. Irshad Hussein

Some guy from Hayward. He was nice, and I got the WORST HANDS both games. Not to mention, I looked over to the Top 8 table and Rob was there, he was 6-1. Knowing I should be there, I was hurt, but props to Rob. Good stuff. I horribly lost to Reflect both games. Don’t know what happened. I was 4-3. I was so disappointed in myself……thinking I should be 6-1. Rob is good, but he NEVER matches me at Slam Dunk or anything. I don’t know…

8th Round: Julien vs. Kevin Costandas.

Pretty quick. I snatched his Breaker, broke a limiter and attacked, and won. Second game, I lock him first turn. He sets and ends. I crossout, attack with Yata, set IO and Ring. He says that’s game. His hand was 2 limiters, Snatch, Raigeki, and Mst. Lol. I was 5-3. At the end of Round 8 I was 35th. Not bad.

I checked with Avalanche. Edwin and Alex were 5-3, Donald was 6-2, and Kevin was 6-2, Brandon was 7-1. He was second seed to that gay Greg guy. This is the most interesting part of the day coming up. I sit with Avalanche, talk just chill and then Top 8 starts. Oh yeah. Props to Galaxy of Daly City. 4 Top 8 players were Galaxy. Good stuff.

Watching Top 8: Brandon Pho (Cait Sith of Lanche) vs. Gay Greg Stoker

This guy. Greg. 8-0 All the rounds. He gave game losses to every opponent for minor stuff. He called judges on EVERYTHING!! Against Edmond, he atk with Yata, and he picks up to draw, doesn’t look, and sets it back. He forgot about Yata. Judge called. Game loss. This happened every round, for stuff like Tribe, Fusion Decks, Yata, CED. My god, Sac town people are fruits. He Dqed Edwin for some gay Fusion stuff. Now, we had pride in Brandon. He had to make Top 4. We had trust in him. Well, after the round. Greg 2-0’s Brandon. BUT. Kevin noticed the biggest event of the whole day. Greg NEVER said he had a fusion deck, and it was still in his box. THAT WAS automatic game loss right there. What a fruit. Kevin talked to the Head Judge. Nothing. Then me, Kevin, Donald, and Edwin talk to the Judge. I convinced him with 10 minutes of talking about how we got game losses for Fusion stuff, and how it wasn’t fair Brandon couldn’t get a win for the same thing, especially in Top 8. He worked all day, and he deserved it more than Gay Greg Stoker. So, the Judge talks to Greg, and he’s about to cry. OMG!!! Ava and me sat there laughing at him. Bad karma. So Brandon got another game. Brandon knows he messed up by setting Dark Hole. He lost. But it was okay. Brandon is a great guy, and I told him not to stress. He said it was cool, and after that, Ava and me did everything to get that Gay Greg Stoker guy Dqed. I even made fun of his decklist, and Alex was laughing so hard at it. In front of like 70 people, I go up and say, Hey *Will u trade that D.D. Warrior Lady?? And I said, That Swords looks pretty fake, oh wait, that’s an EVO swords… Lol, I owned at Regs. So yeah, Greg Stoker took it and got an XBOX. He was cocky about it too. Well, after that, Donald got his 3 packs, and gave me and Alex 2 of them. I got…. Dark Certops guy. Lol, dun know what Alex got. Soon after that, Brandon met my mom, and I said my farewells, and left. I shook Brandon’s hand, and he was strong about it. I felt he had something. Don’t worry Brandon. Avalanche said it cool I hang with yall at future events. Don’t Worry.  Frisco Regs, we’ll own that fruit so BAD!! So yeah, fun day overall.
