Just to clear up a few things, GK = Gravekeeper’s.  Also, I have a Dust Tornado because I don’t have 3 MST’s. so it is a replacement.  Same goes with Rivalry of Warlords as a replacement for Ring of Destruction, although that doesn’t necessarily fit as a good replacement for Ring, it works well anyway.  Before I start my reports, I have to explain the format of this tournament.  It is not single elimination, it’s a Round Robin, except that you only have 4 rounds of it.  The first round you get paired up randomly, and from then on it’s based on records, which is pretty fair to me.  Also, you never play the same person twice in the 4 rounds of round robin.  After the first 4 rounds are complete, the 8 players with the best record are put into a top 8, where it is single elimination from then on.  Now for my report =D

1st Round:  Me v A dad who entered with his son (Sorry, couldn’t remember his name)

Now, this man had a “left over” deck because his son had all the good cards.  He was actually telling me that he entered because his son wanted him to, he must be very patient, hehe.  Anyway, his deck was not good..at all, but I expected this.

1st Duel – I didn’t draw a very good hand, but it didn’t matter, this guy didn’t have anything threatening.  The first few turns I set the 2 GK Spy’s I had from my starting hand, and just let him attack them, taking damage from my defense.  I also had Raigeki from my starting hand, so I wasn’t worried about stalling.  I just waited a few turns for Necrovalley (Via Terraforming) and then swarmed him for a one-hit KO.  Yes, he couldn’t destroy any of my monsters.  I wanted to end this faster, but it took a while since I didn’t have the best of hands.  8000/0

2nd Duel – Believe it or not, I got pretty much the same hand (what luck..) and it ended in almost the same fashion. 7700/0

Duel Record: 2-0; Match Record: 1-0

2nd Round:  Me v Dale Lin

Dale is my friend, actually, most people that go to this tournament are my friends.  I talk to most of them.  Anyway, he is really good.  He plays a beatdown with equips and Hayabusa Knight, everyone got rid of that, but he still uses it.  Actually, its what makes his deck good.

1st Duel – I went first in this one.  I started out with a decent hand, Necrovalley AND Magic Reflector, plus 1 GK Spy and 1 GK Assailant, I can’t remember the other cards in my hand though.  Apparently Dale got a good hand too.  He set 2 traps (1 of which was Imperial Order and the other Mirror Force) then played MST to get rid of my Magic Reflector counter on Necrovalley.  He then summoned Goblin Attack Force and hit my set GK Spy.  I got GK Assailant from the Spy effect, and began my turn.  I kinda forget what happened in the next few turns, but that it came out that he got rid of my Necrovalley and took control of the field.  Once he did that, he pulled out Injection Fairy Lily and finished me off, but I did get in a hit or two.  0/4200

2nd Duel – I went first in this one too.  I play Necrovalley, set 1 trap (Rite of Spirit), set 1 monster (GK Spy), and then play Royal Tribute, and then ended my turn.  I was pretty happy with myself because it was the first time since making my GK deck a week before that I had gotten the Royal Tribute combo early in the game.  I got rid of his Yata-Garasu, Don Zaloog, and 1 of his Goblin Attack Force’s.  On his turn he plays Pot of Greed, Heavy Storm which I chain Rite of Spirit to, to get my GK Spear Soldier I discarded with Royal Tribute earlier in def mode, sets 1 trap (Torrential Tribute) and plays a Spear Dragon that he top decked.  Then he NoC’s my set GK Spy.  This REALLY annoyed me because it’s the main swarming monster I have and really helps my deck out.  Anyway, he attacked my GK Spear Soldier with his Spear Dragon.  But after that, he had no hand left, and left himself wide open for a GK swarming attack.  On my next turn I MST his face down Torrential, set another Rite of Spirit, play my Pot of Greed, and then summon a GK Spear Soldier, and play Necrovalley.  From then on, it was up to his top decking, which he couldn’t do this duel.  He sets a fd mt (United We Stand) and ends.  I then top deck a GK Assailant and summon it, and then hit him for 4000.  I had him in a lock, for I had NoC in my hand, and there wasn’t much he could do.  He did top deck Dark Hole, but then on my turn I use Rite of Spirit, that was fd from earlier, to get back my GK Assailant, and end it.  8000/0

3rd Duel – This time I went second, and got a good and again.  However, Dale’s hand was just amazing.  He plays Delinquent Duo, getting rid of my Necrovalley, and then I discard my GK Chief.  Then he sets an Imperial Order fd, and Summons Goblin attack force.  What I did here is just a blur, because he just Imperialed me and I defended with what I think was GK Spear Soldier.  Next turn he doesn’t pay for Imperial, plays Feather Duster, Change of Heart on my monster, Tributes it for Jinzo, plays Graceful Charity, discards Hayabusa Knight and Injection Fairy Lily, Reborn’s the Lily, Premature’s the Hayabusa, equips United We Stand on Hayabusa, and just slaughters me.  Yeah, it was that bad.  He got a great hand..  0/8000

Duel Record: 3-2; Match Record: 1-1

3rd Round:  Me v William (Cant remember his last name)

From here on out, I couldn’t lose a match or else I wouldn’t be able to make it into the top 8.

This guy played a Dark Magician deck, but was missing some staple cards and then many support cards for a Dark Magician deck, so it wasn’t too much of a contest to beat this guy.  The one thing though was that he took a very long time to make each move, so even though there weren’t many turns in this match, it still took a long time to finish.  The bad apart about dueling this guy was that he was full of himself..but he wasn’t any good.

1st Duel – This was, surprisingly, almost like the 1st duel I had with the dad I dueled in the 1st Round, so wouldn’t you know it, I stalled for a little, then swarmed him for a 1 hit KO. He did get me once with a Breaker the Magical Warrior however. 6100/0

2nd Duel – Instead of my stalling, it was he who stalled in this one.  I did eventually break through though when I finally drew a Necrovalley.  I was over very soon after I drew Necrovalley.  8000/0

Duel Record: 5-2; Match Record: 2-1

4th Round:  Me v David Ramsey

He played a beatdown, like most of the people at this store do.  He had most of the staples for a beatdown, except he didn’t have a Gemini Elf, he did have 1 Luster, and had to replace the Gemini’s with Giant Orc’s.  He also had Goblin Attack Force’s in here, you know, just your average beatdown.

1st Duel – You know, I hadn’t appreciated how much Necrovalley helped me until this duel.  I knew that it negated quite a few things that my opponent could use for recursion, but it really changed the way this duel was played.  I got 2 Nerovalley’s in my first hand, I was somewhat surprised.  So, I play the 1st Necrovalley and set a GK Spy.  I forgot exactly what he did, but he MSTed my Necrovalley, then hit my GK Spy with a Spear Dragon.  I got GK Spear Soldier from it, then I am pretty sure he set a fd mt, but I cant remember exactly what it was.  I know, I know, not so great a memory, but I draw Magic Reflector, play Necrovalley, then Magic Reflector on Necrovalley.  I hit his Spear Dragon, and then a few turns later I was extremely lucky because I had a Cyber Jar set, and he had taken my other two monsters via Change of Heart and Snatch Steal, and tributed 1 of them for his Jinzo, but he couldn’t get rid of my Cyber.  After this he got rid of my Necrovalley, and we both wasted our hands somehow, and I ended up having to top deck monsters, setting them and lining them up for his Luster Dragon (4 star one) to destroy, since they weren’t any good effect monsters that I could use.  Then, I top deck Spirit Reaper and set that.  He stalled for at least 4 turns, while I could replenish my hand some.  Then, I drew my Final Necrovalley, and by now he had used up every means to destroy mt’s, so I was very happy.  I used Raigeki, switched Spirit Reaper to attack, attacked, then used Mirror Force on me, then I set a GK Assailant, since I was expecting a Mirror Force, good judgment on my part.  The LP’s were low at this point, 1650/2000.  He set a monster, which turned out to be Fiber Jar.  I drew Rite of Spirit and set it.  Then, he didn’t know that Fiber Jar’s effect was negated because of Necrovalley, he was top decking at this point too.  So he flips Fiber Jar and says “Looks like I win.”  I then told him this, and he went into shock.  So then he frantically plays an Axe of Despair on his Fiber Jar and attacks me, but I chain Rite of Spirit to get back my GK Assailant.  He then ends, I draw GK Chief, and its over.  Necrovalley saved me, because it would have been over if that Fiber Jar would have worked. 1650/0

2nd Duel – I just owned him this game, so I won’t go into explaining this one. 3600/0 (He hit me once with Jinzo, I pumped once with Injection)

Duel Record: 7-2; Match Record: 3-1  Hooray, I made it into the top 8! xD

Quarter Finals:  Me v An Phan

I hadn’t seen An in a long time, he was one of my best friends at The Lucky Frog, but he moved away and couldn’t come here very often.  He plays a beatdown too.

Duel 1 – Well, as much as I like An, and as good as he used to be, I guess it was just my new deck, but I beat him pretty easily.  He got through some early attacks, but then I got him in what I call a “GK Lock” with GK Spear Soldier, GK Assailant, and Necrovalley.  3500/0

Duel 2 – This time it was more even.  I mean last duel the LP weren’t too out of proportion, but I pretty much controlled the duel.  This time the control shifted many times, but I ended up swarming with my recursions just enough to edge him out.  2100/0

Duel Record: 9-2; Match Record: 4-1

My best friend at Lucky Frog, Ernest, is very good, actually he wins very often.  He was playing the same deck he played last week, which was a Fiend/Necrofear deck, which he considered a fun deck.  He actually won with it the previous week, but this week he got knocked out in the Quarter Finals.

Semi Finals:  Me v Sean King

He was the guy who beat Ernest, who insisted that it was luck (he tends to be full of himself too, but he is good so I don’t mind much).  Sean played a regular beatdown.

Duel 1 – During this duel we swapped blows, while I seemed to have a psychological advantage on him for some reason.  I would play a Necrovalley, he would get rid of it.  On the next turn, the same thing happened.  Then on the third turn, I played my final Necrovalley, and that demoralized him.  He had used up most of his hand getting rid of the previous two Necrovalley’s that he didn’t have much left.  However, he was able to keep his monsters on the field for long enough to hold me swarming off.  He in that time replenished his hand and almost had it won, but I was lucky enough that my Necrovalley was still there, and I used Assailant to victory but killing his Jinzo with Assailant’s effect.  After that, I drew Raigeki and finished him off.  1200/0

Duel 2 -  This happened pretty much the same way as the first one, expect he ended up gaining control at the end instead of me. 0/2300

Duel 3 – As close as the first two were, this one was very fast.  When I first drew my starting hand, I didn’t find it being very good, but I did have Imperial Order.  And just my luck, he had only Spell cards in his hand, so as you can imagine, I paid for Imperial several times, and he never drew a monster, so this duel was easy.  4500/0

Duel Record: 11-3; Match Record: 5-1

Finals:  Me v Sat

Before I say anything, I have to say this.  Before this week, I had gone 5 consecutive weeks without getting past the Quarter Finals.  I would always get there, but lose in there every time, even if I was dueling somebody who I would normally beat.  I figured I was cursed, but today I guess I broke it.  And since I got to the finals, I was happy because I at least won $10 in store credit.

Sat had a Hand Control hybrid deck, the first one of the day amazingly that I had gone up against.  For this match though, I don’t remember much at all, but  Ernest kept score and gave me the report for this one, so I will give that and add what I remember.

Duel 1 – 8000/8000, 2800/7400  Here is when we ended up both just countering moves until he could open it up on me with Jinzo and a few other monsters..I was shocked, because he also cleared my field, and my hand was nearly depleted.  He beat me on his next turn.

Duel 2 – 8000/8000, 7600/5000.  Here I hit him with a GK Assailant and a GK Spear Soldier that came from Rite of Spirit, no Necrovalley however.  8600/2000.  He snatch stole my GK Assailant, I used Mirror Force, and then summoned another GK Assailant and hit him for another 3000.  8600/0.  Somehow it ended, but I don’t remember how..I hate memory loss o.o;

Duel 3 – I got him down early to low LP, and that was a huge factor on how this played out.  I gave him 6000 in the first 4 turns, and gave him another 1100 later on.  I then Cyber Jared him a few turns later, and he was able to hang on with 400 LP for another 5 or 6 turns before I finally got him.  However, I gotta give him props here because he almost staged a comeback, but once again Necrovalley’s effect saved me.

Duel Record 13-4; Match Record: 6-1

I had FINALLY won a tournament, after being cursed for 4-5 weeks (can’t remember how long exactly).  Anyway, I got the $20 store credit and used it to get a Spell Canceller and a soda.  I love Barq's Root Beer, its got bites.  Lol

Props

-          To me for breaking the curse and winning, first time in a while and for getting Spell Canceller, I love that card

-          For having a fun time

-          To Ernest and Sat for giving me the GK cards I needed to make this deck

Slops

-          To Ernest for losing before facing me

-          To me for being really dumb and forgetting Ernest’s CD and for almost losing my NoC

-          To An for having to face me so early..I really had a tough time dueling him, I don’t like beating him for some reason..just doesn’t feel right

-          To this one guy who entered who needs to stop spending money on cards and needs to TAKE A SHOWER!  Man he smelled bad..I mean REAKED
