This year’s report is written about an Advanced Format Tournament with 16 participants. The entrance fee is, as always $3.50.You get a pack for playing, no matter what happens. It’s kinda lame, but it’s a great way to kill time on a Saturday morning. ---Pre-Tournament--- I got to the shop at about 8:30, and there were only three people lined up outside. A girl named Alaina, her brother Corey, and a kid people call Bremlet. We entertained ourselves by tossing half- &-half creamer containers at passing cars. This went on for about 15 minutes, until the Second judge, Will, showed up. Cory’s dad showed up right after Will. One of the store workers let Will and Alaina (today’s judges) in early, but felt sorry for us, and let us in too. We sat around 15 minutes before the rest of the players showed up for the tournament. One of my better friends, Brent, showed up pretty close to the tournament start time. Way to go, dude! ---Tournament--- I was kinda disappointed with my first match. I was going up against a kid, whose last name was Rodriguez. He was maybe 8 or 9 years old. He had no idea what he was doing. He was playing traps like magic cards, setting special summons face down, and wasn’t real high in confidence. I felt bad beating him like I did but thems the brakes. =Round #1= Starscream v. Rodriguez Win: Starscream I let Rodriguez go first. He set 3 magic/trap cards, and summoned a Sonic Bird in face up defense mode. He retrieved a Black Illusion Ritual from his deck. On my turn, I summoned an Archfiend Soldier and destroyed his Sonic Bird. I then ended my turn. On his next turn, he played DARK HOLE, and than RITE OF SPIRIT to summon his Sonic Bird back onto the field in FACE DOWN defense position. Back to me, I Pre-matured my Jinzo, and summoned a Giant Orc. I used Jinzo to destroy the Sonic Bird, and hit Direct with my Giant Orc. On his next go, he used MONSTER REBORN to bring his Sonic Bird back, again, and ended his turn. On my turn, Jinzo killed the SB once again, and the Giant Orc hit him Direct. Right now, the life point count is at 8000:1000 with me in the lead. This time around Rodriguez place a card face down, used Change of Heart on Jinzo, and killed my Orc. Back in my corner, I had nothing in my hand but A Cylinder, Return form the Different Dimension, Waboku, and a Dimension Fusion. So I attack the face down, and it’s a Magician of Faith. He takes back Dark Hole. On his turn, he uses dark hole, and hit’s me with another Sonic bird Direct. Back, to me, I hit him with a freshly drawn Archfiend Soldier, and Win. Match 2 is much more anti-Climactic. I go first, and play an Orc and set a Waboku. On his turn, he set 3 magic/trap, and ended his turn. Turn 2; I have 2 tributes, a Waboku, a Swords, and a Necrofear. I attack direct with my Orc and end. Turn 3 he summons nothing, Turn 4, I summon Dark Ruler, and attack Direct. Turn 5; he still has no summon. 6 comes, I summon an Archfiend Soldier, and hit direct with both of them. Game. I’m sure many of you were wondering why I let Rodriguez do a lot of the things I let him do. I have some reasons. The biggest reason is that I would have felt like an ass if I had said anything. That feeling would have been worse because his dad was watching him play. Number two is because, He should have been disqualified because of the banned cards he was playing. Number three was because I wanted him to have fun, not listen to instruction after instruction. =Round #2= Starscream v. Myers Win: Myers This was a much different match. This kid ran a stereotypical Solar Flare burn deck. A lot of people in my area play these damn decks. I hate them. Match 1 was nifty enough. I was unable to touch him at all. By turn 6 I had taken 7100 points of damage. My side of the field had 1 face down card, and a Lava Golem Myers had summoned earlier in the duel. During his next turn, I activated my Last Turn, he summoned a Lava Golem from his deck, and it ended in a draw. At the time, the judges were unanimous in the decision that hew was allowed to Special Summon his Lava Golem, but I have found out that, since it wasn’t summoned right the first time, it was an illegal move, Not like it would have mattered. Match 2 and 3 ended with me losing both matches. ---Post-Tournament--- After my loss second Round, I took my pack, a 1st Edition pack of Rise of Destiny, and pulled a Mokey Mokey King, Lighten the Load, Bokoichi the Frightful Car, Invasion of Flame, Malice Dispersion, Fox Fire, Back to Square One, Creeping Doom Manta, and for my rare, and Ultimate version of Triangle Ecstasy Spark. I ended up trading it for a Hallowed Life Barrier. That’s all for this week folks. If I’m up to it, I’ll write one for the 18th, if not, I’ll have a fresh one ready for on the 1st of January, because the following Saturday is Christmas. Hope you enjoyed reading this report.
