He guys. This is my 1st tourney report. I play at 2D Sports Cards, located at the Park Place Mall in Tucson, Az. There are usually between 40-60 people there a week, and the metagame is pretty tough. Today, it was a Swiss style tourney and I played five total matches. Not bad for $5. Anyways, this is how my day of tense dueling unfolded:

1st round vs. Some Kid

This round wasn’t too tough and I don’t remember a lot from it. Basically, it was some kid with a plain beatdown. He played cards like 7 colored fish and Harpies brother, all just prey for my Slate Warriors and Archfiend Soldiers.  I won this match easily 2-0.

2nd round vs. Manny

Manny is a kid who is sometimes at 2D tournaments, but mostly just goes to another tourney. Anyways, he is only 12, but damn, he is good. He usually runs a good yata handcontrol deck, but the 1st duel he had an Exodia deck. It wasn’t too tough, and I had it beat in about 12 moves. But then came the trouble. He switched out his entire side deck with cards in his deck. What he had done is he went from Exodia to handcontrol. Even though I was expecting it, he had me yata-locked in 2 moves in the next duel! He started off playing Forceful Sentry returning my Mirror Force to my deck. He then summoned Witch of the Black Forest and set a card ending his turn. Well, I was feeling pretty good because ironically, the card I drew was Mirror Force. I set it, summoned my Giant Orc and he played Torrential Tribute and got what else, Yata Garasu. On his turn, he played Mystical Space Typhoon on my Mirror Force and attacked with Yata. He sets a card and ends his turn. On my turn, I play my remaining monster, Slate Warrior, in attack mode and he plays Ring of Destruction. Well, that was that. I was Yata-locked. However, in the 3rd duel, I managed to stay away from Yata as I did nothing but pulverize Manny’s life points in from the very 1st move. I managed to get Jinzo and Dark Ruler Ha Des on the field, and I escaped with the match.

3rd round vs. Tracy

Tracy is a friend of mine who is regularly at the tourney. She has been playing longer than me, but I know her deck pretty well. Her decks are very, how can I put it, varied. She plays with some field magic cards, some Gravity Binds, some Solemn Wishes(???), and God knows what else. Anyways, I pretty much had this one from the beginning. Not much to report on here, except that both times I got out a Jinzo on her and pounded the crud out of her life points. I won 2-0.

4th round vs. Chris

Chris is a duelist I have seen a few time before at 2D, but he’s not a regular. I want to say he’s about 16 or 17, and he looked ultra cool with his pimpin’ sunglasses on the back of his head nt really). Anyways, as he was playing some other guy, I managed to do a little spy work and get a glimpse of what kind of deck he was running. The 1st thing I see I Marauding Captain, and I think “Ok, no biggie, this guy’s just running a Warrior deck.” But the next card I see is Flute of Summoning Dragon! OK, a Warrior/Dragon deck, right… Anyways, the 1st duel began. It really sucked. I got total crap in my hand and he pounded away at me with Spear Dragon’s. I eventually managed to get a Jinzo out, but on his turn he just played Snatch Steal and continued raping me. 2nd duel, much better hand ( I actually got some monsters). I was just kinda’ a beatdown-fest. However, my continuous barrage of Archfiend Soldiers, Slate Warriors and Giant Orcs was too much for his dragons. So the 3rd duel began. I have to admit, I got a great hand. He went 1st, set a monster and set a spell/trap facedown. The 1st thing I did was I activated Painful Choice. I let him choose between four Fiends and a Pot of Greed. He gave me something like an Archfiend Soldier. So, that right there already gave me three Fiends to remove for Dark Necrofere. But first, I Mystical Space Typhoon his magic/trap and it turned out to be Magic Cylinder. I then play Nobleman of Crossout on his facedown card, special summon for Dark Necrofere, and on top of that summoned a Slate Warrior. I hit him for a devastating 4100 the 1st move. On his turn he sets a monster face down and ends his turn. On my turn, I didn’t draw anything to destroy the face down card, so I attacked it and it ended up being a Spirit Reaper. I end, his turn. He draws and sacs off the Spirit Reaper for Jinzo. Forgetting all about my little ole’ Dark Necrofere’s effect, he attacks it. End phase, he is shocked and stupefied to see me take his Jinzo (honestly, who doesn’t know what a Dark Necrofere does?). My turn, with his field completely empty except for a set magic/trap, I attacked and wiped out the remaining portion of his life doing 4300 direct damage.

Championship round vs. Yohan

Well, I don’t really know how to describe Yohan. He is a big crazy Asian guy and proud of it. This match was over quickly as Yohan, as crazy as he is, finished me off quickly. He managed to summon a Chaos Emperor Dragon with Witch of the Black Forest on his side of the field and raped me with it. To be honest with you, throughout our match, he used a lot of cards from the new Invasion of Chaos set that I am not too familiar with. Sorry, but if you want a better description, I think he is going to publish a deck report also, so read his and I’m sure he will give a lot more details. I lost 2-0. L

Well, that’s about it. Overall, I would say it was a fairly successful day as I went 4-1 overall, despite falling short of 1st. And after the tourney, there was a doubles tourney and me and my good friend Daniel won. Well thanks for reading. To give feedback, email me at rickymia_34@yahoo.com. Thx!
