Notes: Two weeks ago, I had traded some kid a Yata Garusa and $40 for the Exodia set. I looked around at a number of different decks and found that most were not up to date, so I built this one using new ideas for strategies and some old. The new cards released by Pharaonic Guardian are listed as such with PGD before them. I did not abuse the lack of restriction listed for this new set (Mirage of Nightmare in particular) so that the deck would be playable in the future for those who would like to use this deck as a reference. This is a popular tournament for a diverse set of duelers of all ages and gender (I am 40). Some of the experienced duelers such as Hypercoyote are in the top ten World Rankings by Upper Deck.

Round One: Me vs. A Good Beat Down Deck

I wasn’t sure how my Book of Moon (BoM) and Nobleman of Crossout (NoC) strategy would work, but it did just fine. I drew Mess. of Peace and Gravity, Tomato, BoM, and Raigeki Break. He went first with a Gemini Elf and set a bunch of M/T. I then drew Harpies and used it, then set Mess., Gravity, Book, and Tomato. He then set a monster and attacked my face down Tomato. I brought Sangan onto the field. I then went next and drew Monster Reborn and attacked his Elve to get Exodia’s head into my hand, then used Reborn to get Sangan back on the field in defense mode during my main 2. He then used MST on my Mess. and then tributed Jinzo. I then Booked Jinzo. I went next and drew NoC, which I used, on Jinzo. He wasn’t too happy to have Jinzo out of play. So far so good with my new strategy. He went next and set a Cyber Jar. I drew Backup Soldier and set it. He flip summoned his Cyber and I drew Painful, Penquin, SoL, Guardian, and Sinister. He brought out Kycoo and a bunch of useless magic and traps and didn’t attack my face down cards. I then drew WoBF. I set WoBF, used Painful and brought out 3 of Exodia’s limbs, and two cards at the top of my deck because Dark Hole would be my next draw card. I used Raigeki Break on my WoBF and got a limb into my hand. He went next and I tripped Backup, he couldn’t chain so I got the three limbs back and won the match.

The rest of the rounds went basically like the first, with me constantly struggling for Exodia pieces while trying to stall and stay alive. I only lost one hand to Hypercoyote in round 3, but still won the duel. Guardian Sphinx worked well with Book of Moon, SoL, and Mess. Of Peace, or Gravity. I kept sending monsters back into their hands, and it also came in handy when using a Sangan or WoBF on the field as a tribute in order to get another limb into my hand. The BoM/NoC strategy worked wonders against Yata, Jinzo, Don Zaloog, and Kycoo. Raigeki Break worked well against my monsters (Sangan and WoBF) and stopping my Mirage when needed as well as destroying my opponents field cards (like Kycoo, etc.) this card is great when used in combination with Sinister. Mess. held back those wicked Hayabusa’s equipped with Axes, United, and the like.

I like to collect Yu Gi Oh! Cards and build different decks and play to have fun! I basically just wanted to test out the deck against formidable players. I didn’t expect to win the tourney, but I did!!

Props:

The honest, good-natured/polite players in TN. (I also play in Ma. and they can be rude and cheat).

Winning my first tourney, even though I have been in the finals many other times.

All of those that participate at Pojo.

Pojo staff for your great ideas and excellent website.

Vijay/Someguy for your deck garage and email replies.

The kid at the tourney who ended up using Fiber Jar five times before I could use NoC on it, you had me laughing.

Slops:

Can’t think of any…(except for those who get too serious, shout, argue, and cheat).

The game is just good fun!
