This is my
first tourney report… because it’s the first one I’ve been to! The tournament
started at
The format
of the tournament was simple… since there were exactly 16 ppl
at the tourney, it allowed the tournament to go 16>8>4>2>1… it
always broke down evenly so no one got a bye and it eventually came down to 1
winner. It was a 2 of 3 match. If you win you move on
to the next round and if you lose, you are out of the tourney and you can then
claim your participation prize. Anyways… on with the tournament…
Round 1: Me vs. Daniel (good water
deck)
I was a
little nervous since it was my first duel in my first tourney. I went first… I
cannot remember exactly what happened but I slowly beat him down until he had
no monsters and I won the duel.

This duel
stayed in my memory a little more because he beat me badly. He chose to go
first and I think he set a witch. I played dark hole and then attacked him with
Gemini. I don’t remember what he chose with his witch. He played dark hole and
then attacked me with fisherman, I countered with cylinder. I put a sangan in def and set a MST (no use). He played a high tide
gyojin and attacked my sangan
with fisherman. He attacked my life points with high tide gyojin.
I get fiber with sangan. I play fiber and use MST on
one of his face down m/t. It was a mirror force. I set imperial order. He plays
raigeki and I play IO then he chains MST…NO!!! FIBER
IS GONE!!! He reborns my sangan
and play another high tide gyojin and attacked for
the win.

This duel
was really easy. He only had one monster in his opening 6 cards. I used raigeki to take care of dat and
attacked with my reborned Jinzo
(graceful charity) and my Gemini for 4300 damage. He finally got a monster and
placed it in def. My turn… I draw EXILED FORCE!!! I tribute exiled to destroy
his face-down monster (sangan) and attack him Jinzo and Gemini for the win.
Winner: Me
I had to
wait for the other duel to finish to know who my
competitor was… and it was Steven, a regular at the store. His dad is so into
the game also that when a new set comes out, he buys boxes until he has every
card in the series. Basically… he has every card in the game…
Round 2: Me vs. Steven (beatdown/hand disruption/ultra rare cards)
His deck
wasn’t really focused on anything from what I had seen in his first duel but I was
nervous nonetheless…
I went
first and was lucky enough to get some drawing power cards (pot of greed &
graceful). I used pot of greed and got a sinister (coincidence) and a spear
dragon. I used graceful charity and discarded sinister (duh) and sangan. I played spear in atk and
set a cylinder. He played Gemini and attacked. I used cylinder. My turn. I draw change of heart! Use change of heart, sac
his Gemini for Jinzo. And I attack with spear and jinzo. He has 1800 lp
left and I have 8000. He plays dark hole and prematures
his Gemini elf… I use RING!!! 1800 –
1900= -100!!!
Me: 1 Him: 0
This match
was sad. His only attack came from his byser shock
when he returned my witch and mirror force to my hand… I destroyed him with geminis and summoned skull.
Winner: Me
I was so
happy that I beat Steven because he has like every card. I wasted no time and
got to my next duel.
Semi-Finals: Me vs. Matthew (beatdown)
I was
completely dominated in this duel. At one point he summoned his Jinzo AND reborned mine. Then he
used premature burial on his hayabusa! Talk about one
shot KO! I was at 5200 when he did this and he attacked me for 6800! Ouch!

I sidedecked 2 TttD for his Jinzo… just incase.
I started.
This was a very patient duel. We only had 1 monster, maybe 2, on the field at
any time always exchanging blows waiting for that move. He had equips like mage
and united which was what hurt me. After about 20-25 turns, I drew snatch
steal! Then I unleashed! I reborned my Jinzo first and then used premature on a gemi. I normal summoned another Gemini and snatch steal-ed
his 7 colored fish with mage and united attached to it and attacked for the win.

This duel was
the tightest duel in my tournament. We both had strong beatdowns
and it was simply luck of the draw I guess? My opening hand sucked compared to
what he played. He went first and set a m/t and played
banner of courage. He set a monster and ended his turn. I had only 1 monster
and useless magics/traps at this point so I played my
spear dragon hoping to do some damage but he activated mirror force… Then I used
premature on my spear to get a monster out and I set a waboku.
He drew and played raigeki. He then reborned my spear and saced for
his jinzo… there goes my waboku…
he flipped his face down monster which was a gearfried
and since he had banner he attacked me for 4600. I drew… DARK HOLE! I played it
and set another waboku… no monsters! His turn, he
played a few cards and I think he set a monster face down. I draw a jinzo… GREAT!!! No monsters to tribute. His turn he played
7 colored and attacked. I used waboku. It went back
and forth for a while until I drew…. SNATCH STEAL… yet
again!!! I snatch stole his Jinzo and played Gemini and
attacked… He couldn’t do anything and I eventually won!!!
Winner: Me
I was
going to the finals… The guy I was gonna duel was the
father that buys so many cards. He asked me if it was okay if he went outside
and took a smoke first and I said sure. After about five minutes he came back
in…
Finals: Me vs. Sam (???)
I didn’t
really know what his deck was because, besides the fact that he changes decks
every day, the duel didn’t last long enough for me to see his deck. I remember
playing first and using a pot of greed. My opening hand was awesome. If I remember... I had a change of heart, 2 geminis, a raigeki
and other stuff??? I also remember countering everything he had. He played a
monster face-down, I used exiled and attacked. He set a monster, I played raigeki and attacked. He got a fiber with his sangan, and I use my change of heart and attack with 2 geminis and used ring on Gemini to
win.

This match
was almost exactly like the first except he combo-ed dice jar and barrel behind
the door to inflict 2500 pts of damage and he used a ring on my spear once.
Besides that I beat him down real badly. He even admitted that I beat him
quickly. Both duels were over in less than 10 minutes and I was crowned
champion of the store!!!
Winner: Me!!!
I was
unbelievably happy!!! I let Sam pick his 4 packs first… there were only 10
packs left. I picked 5 out of the remaining 6 packs and the judge got one pack.
Sam got a guardian sphinx and rares. I opened my
first pack… LAVA GOLEMN!!! I couldn’t believe it. It isn’t better than ring but
its still a secret!!! My second pack was moisture
creature and my third pack was a ROPE OF LIFE!!! A secret and an ultra!!! For only
10$ entrance fee and the right to call myself champion!!! I also got gora turtle and king tiger wangchu…
