Pojo Killer Decks: A Tourney Report Location: Sentry Box, Calgary Alberta Entries: 40 Tourney Type: 3 Match Round Robin then Single Elimination, Unofficial Date: Sept 7, 2003 Entry Fee: $5 Canadian Prizes: 1st place gets 3 assorted boosters 2nd place gets 2 assorted boosters Nothing for all those people who don't get 1st or second... Only I entered this tourney out of me and my bro. Why? Because between us we have enough cards for 2 ok decks missing some cards, or one deck with everything we want... Now... I'm going to note the mistakes in my deck... I have two decks with the same colour sleeves... This lead to some problems in my matches... Here is the deck I played with. -=SkyLights=- 42 Cards... Well... Ok... Fine... It would be 44 with Witch and Nimble. ==================== 19 Monsters (21 if you include the Witch and last nimble that were supposed to be there...) ==================== 1 Lava Golem 3 Princess of Tsurugi 1 Penguin Soldier -------- to be replaced with Lava Golem 1 Mask of Darkness 3 Giant Germ 2 Nimble Momonga ---^@#% it got jacked between my 2-4 duel... 3 Troop Dragon 1 Sangan 1 Witch of the Black Forrest ------- Err... this one was also jacked, or mixed into my other deck 1 Cannon Soldier --------- I need to put the second back in.... 1 Sinister Serpent 1 Fiber Jar 1 Cyber Jar ==================== 9 Magic ==================== 1 Pot of Greed 1 Graceful Charity 1 Dark Hole 1 Raigeki 1 Harpie's Feather Duster 1 Change of Heart 1 Monster Reborn 1 Swords of Revealing Light 1 Scapegoat ------ Another useful card... I might want to put the second back in... ==================== 14 Traps ==================== 3 Just Desserts 1 Ceasefire 1 Ominous Fortunetelling 2 Waboku 3 Gravity Bind 1 Mirror Force 1 Magic Cylenders 1 Ring of Destruction 1 Imperial Order Looking over my deck in this format, I see what needs to be changed for next time. But I did do well this time. Let's check out the Pre-Tourney Scene. PRE-TOURNEY STUFF: Alright I thought as Rob, the trades booth owner said yes to a Injection Fairy Lilly for a Lava Golem... I'm going into this Tourney with style! Why? I traded Fiber Jar and my second Magical Hats for the Lilly, and a Kuriboh, Sujin, and Mask of the Accursed for the Fiber Jar... So for 4 worthless cards (mostly given to me for free because they were damaged or useless...) I got a Lava Golem... A Lava Golem FOR FREE!!! I stared at my deck for 15 minutes before deciding to take out Cannon Soldier. But now I see that was a bad move. On to the Tourney! TOURNEY: 1st Round! Slavik81 (me) Vs Daren (Beatdown with allsorts of things... 7-tools...Solemn Judgement...) I wasn't worried at first, but I soon realised that I should be... Well... Duel 1: Me 8000->6100 Him 8000->7500->6500->3500->2800->2100->0 Ok, in this duel he started out with some nice cards. I however did better. I go first and set Just Desserts and Scapegoat. Then set a Troop Dragon I was hoping he would use a Duster or Strom early, so I didn't set Gravity Bind. He then responds with a La Jinn. Sets 2 cards, plays Duster and attacks. I chain Scapegoat and Just Desserts and pull another troop from my deck. I then draw, set Gravity Bind then play Pot of Greed. I set a Princess of Tsurugi and he runs into it followed by Gravity Bind on his brand spankin' new Spear Dragon. I sacked both monsters for my Lava Golem and well... He just plain lost after a few more turns. The only highlight from later in the duel is where I activated a Ominous Fortunetelling and guessed right. Ring of Destruction, and various other cards were also used. Duel 2: Me 8000 Him 8000->7000->5500->5000->4000->2000->0 A very close duel... He comes at me with a very angry Spear Dragon, but he hits Gravity Bind and is stuck all duel. But after I summon Lava Golem, he gets back at me. He fills up his field with 2 Goblins, 1 Lava Golem, and 1 Mystic Tomato... And he MSTs my Gravity Bind... I think quick. I activate Waboku. He 7-Tools! I activate a second Gravity Bind (set because I had 7 cards in my hand). He Solemn Judgements!!!! I have no defence... Wait. I have a Just Desserts! YEA!!! 2nd Round! Slavik81 (me) Vs Strange Chinese/Oriental Kid with a beatdown. This duel was... ANNOYING!!! Duel 1: Me 8000->6100->4800->3000->1500->1300->0 Him 8000->6100->4100->3000->2000->1800 He is a bad man! He beat me! He beat me! And with a Yata Lock no less... I almost had him too... I had a Magic Cylinders down. He had Lava Golem. If he attacked with his 2 other monsters first before the lava golem I was dead.. But if he attacked with Lava Golem... I couldn't risk it. I Raigekied... And lost. I had Just Desserts down with a Magic Cylinders. Then he summoned Yata. I had to Magic Cylinder. Next turn I drew... Waboku... Then!!!! Dark Hole. Finally he wiped out my MTs and finished me. Duel 2: Me 8000 Him 8000->6100->3500->3000->2000->0 Well not too much to say. He didn't touch me. I just got him good with all my cards. Every time he tried to attack I blocked it. I even attacked him occasionally. Duel 3: Me 8000->7000->5100->3600 Him 8000->6100->5400->4200 I'm upset over this match... He got out Jinzo like second turn. Ouch. Jinzo hits my monster. Then I'm hit with Gemini. Next turn I set a Penguin Soldier. And I return Jinzo to where hence he came. But I was on the defensive. Nimble Momongas Then he played a Twin Headed Behemoth. I had Waboku and Scapegoat down, but I was going to use Waboku next turn to block Jinzo and Scapegoat for extra stall... So I took the 1500... I had 600 LP less then him. You know what happened? The ref then just walked over immediately after and said time... &%$#@! 3rd Round! Slavik81 (me) Vs Greg (Fiend/Spellcasters) I wasn't too worried about this one. Recently he has been loosing most duels he was in... Duel 1: Me 8000 Him 8000->5300->2200->0 This was one I don't remember well. I do remember that I slaughtered him... Duel 2: Me 8000->6500->4500 Him 8000->4000->2500->500->0 I took damage from a pumped up Gravekeepers Spear Soldier. And from a Ring of Destruction... My Ring of Destruction. Another slaughterfest, but better. I Cylinders his first attack with a 2000 Octaclops. Then I Ring it. His Ha Des posed a threat to me, but I Wabokued an attack on my Cyber Jar to kill it. I then got back Cylinders with MoD and kept pounding away. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We interrupt the scheduled tourney to bring you almost live coverage of me playing Rob. One of the best players there. Slavik81 (me) Vs Rob (Gravekeepers) One of the best players around... And I beat him! Duel 1: Me 8000->6100->4700 Him 8000->5500->4500->3600->2900->400->0 Very long and drawn out. Due to Necrovalley he couldn't get back his Heavy Storm, or MST, or Jinzo and so luckily my Gravity Bind and Ominous Fortunetelling stayed on the field. Some highlights were him playing Heavy Storm. I had 5 MTs. I then activated 1 Just desserts for 1000 damage, and 2 other traps. Then he chained IO so he wouldn't lose his MTs. Later I slaughtered him with a Cannon Soldier. But then he dared to sacrifice his last monster for Axe... I couldn't beat him with Just Desserts so I had to kill him with Ominous Fortunetelling. Now back to the regular scheduled tourney. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now starts the 1 Duel Single Elimination section of the tourney. 4th Round! Slavik81 (me) Vs Strange Chinese/Oriental Kid with a beatdown. Not again... Well... Hmmm... Duel 1: Me 8000->6100->5100->7100->8100->6600->4200->900->0 Him 8000->6500->5700->4700 You wouldn't believe how annoying he is... I was winning, then he summoned Jinzo... I'm not too worried yet. I remember that I have some defence. I blocked with Scapegoat, but Jinzo kept coming. I then proceeded to draw every trap left in my deck. All the while hoping that he would run out of cards. He used Mirage of Nightmares without destroying it for 2 turns. And brought it back and used it again. He had 2 cards left in his deck. When I drew Raigeki and killed his Jinzo, thereby making my Gravity Bind, Mirror Force, 2 Just Desserts, and Ceasefire useful again. But it was not to be. He played Monster Reborn. WRAPING UP: Good Tourney overall. I traded my Ring of Destruction after tourney for a Jinzo and a slightly damaged Mirror Force. I will be going tomorrow to trade the Jinzo and Mirror Force + $10 CDN for a Ring of Destruction and a Lava Golem or Injection Fairy Lilly. Now for the Props and Slops Props: To that little Chinese kid... To Tim for winning the tourney. To me for making such a sweet trade. To all the people I dueled. Slops: To Rob for losing in the 4th round... His gravekeepers couldn't stand up to Jinzo... And Ha Des together... He had some really bad luck… I saw his hand for his last match… To Jinzo... I hope you die a horrible death...
