I hate beatdown, yet I use it. Mine is really outdated, but what can I say, I don't buy YGO cards. It's getting updated really slowly but very soon I'm about to stop using it. I'm sure a lot of you have heard about Necrovalley and the Gravekeeper's. I urge all of you newbies to go out there and attempt this deck. Not only is it easy to make (most of the mons are commons) but it's actually a pretty decent deck on its own. Please try and stay away from beatdown. Beatdown will get outdated very soon and it's very expensive. Yatalock is about the same. It's really mostly a beatdown with hand destruction cards in it for the most part. So do yourself a favor and explore other areas of the CCG. You may find it to be cheaper. Prizes 1st $40 worth of YGO packs 2nd $20 worth of YGO packs 3rd-4th $10 worth of YGO packs 5th-6th 2 YGO packs of your choice (except LOB) Comments: The prizes were horrible this time. They keep getting worse and worse. The prizes depend on how many are there and recently there haven't been many people showing up. Bummer. Setup Like normal, we go through three one hour rounds. The winner of the two out of three duels gets three points (as to why we don't just get one point and keep it simple is beyond me). The players with the best scores go to the finals (which in this tournament was the top 6). The finals consist of the best two out of three rounds of elimination. The setup has gotten worse and worse. We first started out with a pretty decent setup. You played three rounds normally and however many games you won, you got one point for them. It wasn't best two out of three in the first rounds but you would play three duels and for each one of those you won you got a point. This still has flaws (i.e. friends deciding to split points) but it's a lot better than the one at this tournament. Duels Duel #1 - Ventura vs Lufia22 R1: V: 8000-6000-5000-4000-1900-0 L: 8000-6000-3800-2700-2600 R2: V: 8000-7700-7000-6750 L: 8000-5400-2850-1750-0 R2: V: 8000-5900-3400-1900-0 L: 8000-5500-4800 Comments: I'm sitting here reporting this tournament almost two weeks after it took place. I don't remember much so bare with me. This is ventura, one of the only challenges at the tournament I go to. Is he good? No, not really. His deck sucks but so does mine, that is why he can beat me sometimes. As you can see, this duel was pretty close but I got through. 3 Points Duel #2 - Matt vs Lufia22 R1: M: 8000-6200-4400-2600-1300-0 L: 8000-6700 R2: M: 5700-3500-3000-1500-0 L: 8000-7500-7000 Comments: This guy was a little kid. He was actually a younger brother of one of my brother's old friends. I went easy on him by letting him do little things but he knew how to play pretty well for a little kid. One of the more fun games in this tournament. It's fun seeing cards you wouldn't normally see. I like freshness in a CCG. Course, I couldn't let him win because my two rivals were at this tournament (Ventura and Mitch). Not to sound cheesy or anything, but I also say this because the prizes were so horrible that I had to get 2nd or 1st to really get anything decent. 6 points Duel #3 - Mitch vs Lufia22 R1: M: 8000-4000 L: 8000-6200-5700-3200-2400-500-0 R2: M: 8000-6200-3700-1200-600-0 L: 8000-6200-5500-4700-2800-2550 R3: M: 8000-7000-3500-900-600-0 L: 8000-7000-6600 Comments: Wow, I'm so lucky. I get to go up against all the good players in the tournaments! I seriously thought I was going to lose this duel after that first round. Mitch (he lives down the street from me) had seriously powered up his deck since last time. His deck looks very close to those Yatalock Clones you see running everywhere. What was his flaw? He only had 11 monsters. How did I win? He didn't draw very many monsters in the last two duels. Ha! I also did alright in the first duel and stuck in there pretty well and I did 4000 in one attack. This is just one of those examples that skill is better than your deck's power. And all of you who have seen my deck above will know that it sucks horribly. 9 points Duel #4 - Ventura vs Lufia22 R1: V: 8000-4700-4500-0 L: 8000-6400-4800-4000-3400 R2: V: 8000-7100 L: 8000-5100-0 R3: V: 8000-6200-4200-1900-900 L: 8000-7900-6900-5900-4900-2400-850-0 Comments: Ok, I was seriously pissed and still am that I had to play Ventura YET AGAIN! I'm going to seriously consult the store owner about the flaws in this tournament. He's a nice guy and I've become sort of friends with him so I think he'll listen. He basically clobbered me in the second duel. I can't remember it much but the duel may have actually be longer than it looks. I thought I had the last duel in the bag. He had 900 LP when I had 4900 LP. He gets an SS out and I let him attack with it thinking I could take the damage and save my waboku for later, BIG MISTAKE. The next few turns I tried to finish off his 900 LP several times but every time he seemed to pop something out like a Waboku or something. Then what does he pop out next? A Skull Lair. What perfect timing for him! It's late game, he hast tons of cards to remove therefor meaning I can't summon anything without it getting blatantly destroyed! So I quickly went on the best defense I could make to try and get an m/t removal but to no avail...due to a stupid card I had put into the deck: Swarm of Scarabs. Only until this duel did I realize it said "Flip Summon" not a flip effect! What a stupid mistake. If I had kept my MEB in there instead of Scarabs I might have stalled longer if not won! Careless errors are crucial moments. Lady Luck is never on my side. 0 Life Points. *Buzzer* You're outta here! And so I lost the tournament in 5th place and I got two boosters of mostly crap. Unfortunately, I was the judge at this tournament so I had to stay and watch the rest of it (even though they usually never ask for my help). Ventura won. I was his best opponent. The funny thing is, Mitch told Ventura in my last duel with Ventura that if Ventura beat me then he would give Ventura a holo. What a big mistake. Mitch probably had a chance against me. Ventura's deck has a few cards I would never put into a deck but he also has cards like Magic Cylinders. These cards make his deck a step up from mine. Mitch thought he could beat Ventura. Oh boy was he wrong! He lost against ventura and got either 3rd or 4th AND he had to give up a holo card. He was a bit pissed after that. I just need to visit the card shop and pick up some cheap common Gravekeeper's. I got me a Gravekeeper's Chief ordered and on the way in the mail. All that is left is to get me a couple of Necrovalleys and one more Chief and I'm set. Necrovalley, here I come! Props: -I got to be the judge (rightly so) -Seeing Mitch get killed in his own game -Seeing a 19 year old with a 2 year old's deck (man was it horrible and then the 19 year old got pissed because he couldn't be a little kid! Good stuff.) Slops: -The tournament setup is very flawed -Crappy boosters -Beatdown still reigns supreme -I had to duel Ventura more than once AGAIN -Prizes sucked -My deck sucks -I had very little fun Overall Appeal: Bad Fin
