Now, this deck made me champion at the local Duelist League the previous day, and through some very odd matches.  I was just as ready for more interesting games today.  Before the tournament, I made a few trades- I traded off a Harpie’s Pet Dragon and a Thunder Nyan Nyan for Magic Cylinder, Lava Golem (first edition), and Spear Dragon.  Not too shabby, I thought.  I also traded a Goblin Attack Force For Marauding Captain and the Sanga of the Thunder you see in my deck (before today I used Kazejin).  I made some other trades, but I don’t remember them too well, except I got Mystical Knight of Jackal and some other neat stuff.  Anyway, the pairings were announced and I saw I was to play someone named Ben P. (I got his last name, but for sake of privacy, I won’t divulge it).  I got to my seat, and a minute or two later, so did he.  Here’s how the match (2 out of 3, and it’s single elimination) went:

ROUND 1: ANDY (me) V. BEN

Game1

Life Points:

ANDY: 8000-6000-1900-2900

BEN: 8000-4600-2600-400-0

Winner: Me

Now, I’d tell you what kind of deck this guy had, but (not to brag) I beat him too fast to find out.  This game lasted approximately 4 turns.  Here’s the breakdown:  First turn, I played Lily in attack mode and Book of moon face down.  He played a Gemini Elf, but, surprise, surprise, it got booked.  He then ended his turn.  I got rid of the elf somehow, then hit him directly with a pumped-up Lily.  His turn, he played Snatch Steal and stole my Injection Fairy.  He played Horn of the Unicorn (?!) on it and attacked me directly(My LP: 1900), pumping it up (his LP: 2600).  My turn, I gained 1000 LP from Snatch steal, then played Raigeki.  I summoned Jirai Gumo and attacked him directly, losing no life points myself.  His turn, he couldn’t do anything, so I attacked him again for the win.

Game 2:

Life Points:

ANDY: 8000-7000-3500-1000-500-250

BEN: 8000-7900-5400-4800-4500-3500-900-0

Winner: Me

This one was close- REALLY close.  He went first, played Gemini Elf, and some M/T face-down.  I played Dark Elf (It’s taken me a year to learn how good that card can be) on my turn and set Ring of Destruction and Solemn Judgment, and attacked his Gemini Elf.  His turn, he played Opticlops with Horn of the Unicorn, but I used my ring.  He attempted to use Barrel Behind the Door to give it all to me.  Now, I would have taken less damage if I had let Barrel resolve, but I wanted him to get in on the damage, so I used Solemn Judgment on the Barrel.  On my turn, I summoned a Spirit Reaper and attacked him directly, discarding something stupid (I think it was Soul Exchange).  He couldn’t do anything, so on my next turn I hit him again, discarding Horn of the Unicorn.  He couldn’t do anything again, so I hit him again with the Reaper and set another monster- Jowgen the Spiritualist, I think.  On his turn, he used Delinquent Duo, and I ended up losing the two Metamorphosis I had in my hand.  On my turn, I sacrificed both my monsters for the Sanga of the Thunder I drew.  However, he had a M/T, so I decided not to attack.  On his turn, he played the Masked Beast ritual and sacrificed a Blue-Eyes Toon Dragon from his hand (?!) to bring out The Masked Beast.  He chose not to attack and ended his turn.  I passed my next turn.  On his turn, he attacked with Masked Beast, but I activated Sanga’s effect, forcing his Masked Beast to be destroyed, and my opponent to take 2600 damage.  He tried to activate Nutrient Z- his face-down card- but a judge said he couldn’t do it.  So, on my turn, I attacked, he tried to use Nutrient Z, but I used Solemn Judgment (which I had set a few turns before) to win.

ROUND 2: ANDY V. DAVID

Game 1:

Life Points:

ANDY: 8000-6300-7300-6300…4100-1400-0

DAVID: 8000-7000-6200

Winner: David

One thing I wanna’ say- the 6300-4100 jump was not one hit- it was a bunch of hits from a Yata-Garasu that I didn’t feel like typing out.  Anyway, David won this one, and pretty easily, too.  I went first, and played something relatively weak in attack mode (don’t remember what).  He played Snatch Steal on it and summoned something else, and hit me for a total of 1700 damage.  On my turn, I gained 1000 from Snatch Steal.  I don’t remember much after this, due to my sloppy record of moves for this duel.  We both lost a thousand from something, then he sicked his Yata on me, and that was about the end of it.  From there, he had me locked, the only card I had was my now-useless Last Turn set on the field.  He hit me with that bird eleven times before monster reborn-ing a Bazoo the Soul Eater and pumping it up to 2500.  He summoned Yata again and hit me down to 1400.  I had to end my turn immediately, for lack of cards to play.  On his turn, just to show off, I think, He used premature burial on a Gemini Elf and attacked with everything.

Game 2:

Life Points:

ANDY: 8000-6100-5900-2950-1550-50-0

DAVID: 8000-6100-5900-4400-2900-2100-600

Winner: David

Needless to say, this was an intense game, which you can tell based on the neck-and-neck scores.  I started with a Spirit Reaper in defense and a Ring of Destruction face-down.  He played Gemini, on which I used Ring.  He played Nobleman of Crossout on my Reaper, and used Monster Reborn on the Elf.  On my turn, I managed to get my hand down to Monster Reborn and Jowgen the Spiritualist.  I played Jowgen, and attempted to discard my Monster reborn in order to wipe out his Elf, but he used HIS Ring of Destruction on my Jowgen.  He didn’t do anything on his next turn, so on mine, I played Twin-Headed Behemoth and hit him directly with it.  On his turn, he tried to play Premature Burial, but I Solemn Judged it.  So, he played Don Zaloog and Change of Heart-ed my Behemoth, hitting me with both, and leaving me with a meager 50 life points.  I killed that Don Zaloog on my next turn, and attacked again with the Behemoth, leaving him at 600.  But, on his turn, he delivered the final blow: a snatch steal and a direct attack from my own monster.

I was a little disappointed that I got out so early, but I guess you can’t win ‘em all.  I got crap in my consolation PGD pack, so I traded some more and left.  Here are the Props and Slops:

Props:

-To my friend Tim for showing up and being someone to relieve my boredom between rounds

-To me for having the guts to use a ‘Last Turn’ deck and for doing that Harpie’s Pet Dragon Deal
