I’m not using my real name, because I would rather not have a whole bunch of people I don’t know know my name. I purchased a meal at McDonalds, as there’s one just across the street from The Game. After I registered (which normally gives you the option of paying $5.00 to get a tournament pack along with you registration, but they were out today) I ate inside, so if the tournament started, I wouldn’t miss it. Anyway, someone comes up and offers me his Tribute to the Doomed for my fries. I think “I don’t need them” and accept his offer. Sooner or later, the Judge posts the first round, so I find my opponent. Round One: Me vs. Evan (Control Beatdown) I’ve seen this guy duel before. One time he used an Exodia deck and came in second place. another he was using some sort of control deck. But this is the first time I’ve actually dueled him. Duel One: It was a close game, but he won this one. I remember at one point in the game he summoned Gemini Elf and attacked my Injection Fairy Lily with it, I paid 2000 and at first he tried to activate Ring of Destruction during the damage step in chain to me paying life points, and then get direct damage with Gemini Elf, but you can’t activate most traps during the damage step, and Ring of Destruction is no exception. So in the end he attacked with Gemini Elf, I paid 2000, Gemini Elf was destroyed and he took 1500. Then on my turn, I summoned Goblin Attack Force, and after I declared battle, he used Ring of Destruction on it, so we both took 2300, then I attacked with Injection Fairy Lily for 400, and in main phase two, equipped it with Mage Power. I think he set a monster in defense mode, and on my turn, I switched Injection Fairy Lily to defense and I summoned Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer to attack it his face-down monster, which was Sinister Serpent. Sooner or later he used Giant Trunade which returned my Mage Power and both of his face-down M/T’s and then summoned Goblin Attack Force and attacked Kycoo for Game. Duel Two: Another close game, but I won this one. I remember at the end him having taken around 3000 points of damage, but then I did around 6000 damage with a combination of Bazoo the Soul Eater (powered up by removing three cards), Spear Dragon (or Gemini Elf, one of the two), and Jinzo. Duel Three: A close game, but I won the final duel. All that I can remember as of now was Me having Jinzo on the field, him with a monster in defense mode, and then me using Raigeki to destroy his face-down monster (which was Sinister Serpent) and attacking for game. Round Two: Me vs. James (Beatdown) I had never dueled him or watched him duel (and if I had I couldn’t remember), so I didn’t know what to expect. Duel One: I won this one. He started by placing a monster face-down, and on my turn, I used Raigeki, destroying his Troop Dragon, allowing him to place another one on the field, and then summoned something and destroyed it, allowing him to place another one on the field. The only other thing I can remember about the duel is him having a clear field except for one face-down M/T and me concerned that it was a Magic Cylinder (I only had about 1600 life left) and then I think I summoned Gemini Elf, he activated his face-down card, which was Call of the Haunted, and then I got it off his field somehow and attacked for game. His big mistake there was activating Call of the Haunted before I entered battle. Duel Two: He won this one. He got out a Dark Ruler Ha Des, then I used Snatch Steal on it, then on his next turn he used Mystical Space Typhoon on it, and it just went downhill for me from there on. Duel Three: I won this one. All I remember about this duel was that he was controlling me with his Injection Fairy Lily, and had a monster in defense mode with no cards in his hand, I drew Raigeki at the last moment, so I first used Nobleman of Crossout on his face-down monster (which was Troop Dragon), used Raigeki, and then Summoned Yata-Garasu and attacked, and since he had no cards in hand or on the field, and I wasn’t going to not use Yata-Garasu until I could drop his life to zero with something else, he conceded the duel to save time. Round Three- Semifinals: Me vs. Steve(Control) I though that I had dueled him before at an invitational The Game had once when Pharaoh’s Servant was the newest expansion, but he claimed that I hadn’t, so I either dueled someone that looked like him and mistook him for that person, or I didn’t hit the right spot in his memory. Duel One: I won this one. I can’t really remember how the duel went, but I know in the finish I got a Jinzo onto the field and I think a Spear Dragon and did enough damage for game. Duel Two: I won this one. Again, I can’t remember how the duel went, except for the finish, when I had Spear Dragon and Goblin Attack Force and he summoned Mechanicalchaser and attacked Spear Dragon, along with setting an M/T face-down. I activated Change of Heart on Mechanicalchaser, and I might have summoned another monster, I’m not sure, but I did enough damage for game. Round 4- Finals: Me vs. Brianna (Light Beatdown. I’m not exactly sure, but I did see Airknight Parshath, Maha Vailo, Asura Priest and Thunder Nyan Nyan played frequently. I did also see Nimble Momanga used and no Hoshinigans or Shining Sparks played, but I guess they don’t have to be in every Attribute-based deck. Maybe it was one of those “I’m bored and I want to use some different cards” decks that just happened to involve several light monsters) Ok. This girl has beaten me in several past tournament. With a beatdown deck, a control deck, a harpy deck (it was either her or one of her sisters, but my deck, while decent, was nowhere as good as it is now). There’s been the occasional me winning one duel in the match, but I have never won a match against her. But today was going to be different. I had made it this far, and I wasn’t going to lose this time. Duel One: I won this one. The only detail I remember is me having four sheep tokens on the field along with a Gemini Elf or something, and her summoning Asura Priest and attacking my sheep tokens, and then me asking the Judge if she could just attack the sheep tokens or if she had to attack all of my monsters, the Judge ruled that if you attack multiple monsters with it you don’t have to attack all of them, and that’s about it. Duel Two: She won this one. The only detail I remember was me having Jinzo on the field and her using Premature Burial on Maha Vailo and then equipping it with either Axe of Despair or Mage Power, but I’m not entirely sure that happened this duel. I think at one point I flipped Fiber Jar, but she activated Waboku in response to me flipping it, but then again, that may not have happened this duel either. Although I am pretty sure that she won by flipping two Nimble Momongas into attack mode, possibly summoning something else, and attacked for game. Duel Three: I think I’ll save the duel results for the end this time. I can’t remember everything, but I remember more about this duel than any other one. I remember her summoning Airknight Parshath with Axe of Despair at one point, then on my turn, she activated Waboku at the beginning, I activated Snatch Steal on Airknight, placed Call of the Haunted face down, I think I summoned something, and ended my turn. On her turn she used Heavy Storm, I activated Call of the Haunted bringing back Jinzo, and then I think she activated Dark Hole some point in the turn. Then later she dropped my life points down to 2000 by suiciding her monsters into my Injection Fairy Lily. At another point in the duel, I placed Fiber Jar face-down, she had two monsters on the field, attacked Fiber Jar with one, and after the reset, summoned Thunder Nyan Nyan in Main phase two, and I think placed a card face-down at this point. Then on my turn, I placed Imperial Order, Ring of Destruction, Call of the Haunted, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Scapegoat face-down, and Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer in defense. On her turn, she activated Change of Heart, and I chained it with Imperial Order, chained that with Mystical Space Typhoon, and at this point, they were saying that it wouldn’t work, so I asked the judge, and after much decision, he said that it would work according to the rule book because of chain priority (the cards resolve outward-in), so I finished my chain with scapegoat. She attacked Kycoo, I activated Ring of Destruction, but everyone (except me and the judge, we didn’t ask him on this decision) said that the attack would go through first, so Kycoo got destroyed, and then thunder Nyan Nyan was destroyed after that with my Ring of Destruction, taking me down to 100 life points. On my turn, I activated Call of the Haunted to bring back Kycoo, and then sacrificed it for Jinzo, and attacked directly for 2400, bringing her down to 1550. On her turn, she placed a monster face-down and ended her turn. On my turn, I’m not sure if I already had it or if I just drew it, but I had an Exiled Force which I summoned and then sacrificed to destroy her defense, which was a Sangan, which I didn’t notice until I attacked with Jinzo, when the people watching said “hold on” and then I realized I destroyed Sangan and she was getting a Kuriboh, which she discarded to nullify my attack. On her turn, she placed a monster in defense and ended. I had my hand on my deck (ready to draw, not to forfeit) hoping for Raigeki, and the card I drew was just what I was hoping for. I used Raigeki, destroying her face-down Asura Priest, and then attacked with Jinzo for game. Even if I didn’t draw Raigeki, I had Yata-Garasu in my hand, which I could’ve attacked with, and if she couldn’t turn the tables on the previous turn, she probably wouldn’t have been able to with one less card. I won $17.00 store credit, and used it to buy two Packs of Pharaonic Guardian, two packs of first edition Legacy of Darkness, a ten-sided dice, and two Magic: the Gathering commons. In the the PGDs I got Gravekeeper’s Watcher and Dark Room of Nightmare, and in the LODs I got Magic Reflector and Yata-Garasu (the secret foil pattern covered the whole card, not just the picture on this one). Nice. Props- -Coming in first -Pulling a 1st edition Yata-Garasu and a Dark Room of Nightmare -The Game for hosting such great tournaments -Pojo.com for having this tournament report function Slops- -Me for not taking notes or writing down life points (I could have made a much better report that way) My online name is Omega Star and my e-mail address is zinth8@yahoo.com for anything that you might want to tell me. I’ll probably be writing more tournament reports, and hopefully I’ll take notes on the duels so I can write them with more detail. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
