Warriors in the Making by Peter Hovey at Center Ice, Billerica MA on 10-12-03.

Now as I said above, my warrior deck is incomplete, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a horrible deck.  Also I have no repeats in my deck, so I only have one of every card in my deck. I am trying to get rid of some cards and put in more Warrior-Appropriate cards or just better ones.  That doesn’t mean I’m trying to make every monster in my deck a warrior.

Monsters: 20

Buster Blader (Strongest warrior up to date)

Dark Ruler Ha Des (So it’s not a warrior but it still kicks ass)

Jinzo (Ha ha.  You can’t use mirror force)

Freed the Matchless General (YAY any low-level warrior I want during my draw phase)

The Fiend Megacyber (I might not even need to tribute)

Goblin Attack Force (Strong attack)

Zombyra the Dark (Monsters don’t last that long now anyways)

Gemini Elf (Highest non-effect level 4 monster out there)

Gearfried the Iron Knight (Um…there’s nothing much to say about this one)

The Rock Spirit (You can count the earth monsters yourself)

Celtic Guardian (Eh.  It’s a warrior)

Invader of the Throne (Permanent change of heart if I’m lucky)

Exiled Force (So long Jinzo or some other strong monster)

Hayabusa Knight (I’ll attack you twice)

Cyber Jar (No more monsters and 5 new cards)

Princess of Tsurugi (It’s ok damage)

Mask of Darkness (YAY!  Magic Cylinder AGAIN)

Sasuke Samurai (No flip effects for you)

Magician of Faith (Welcome back Raigeki)

Yata-Garasu (I LOCK YOU)

Magic: 14

Raigeki (You’re all dead)

Dark Hole (It’s pretty much Raigeki)

Mystical Space Typhoon (Field disruption)

Harpie’s Feather Duster (Figure it out for yourself)

Monster Reborn (This one too)

Pot of Greed (More cards)

Graceful Charity (Discard the strong and then revive them)

Change of Heart (My monster.  Not yours.  Mine)

Nobleman of Crossout (Stupid flip effects BE GONE!!!)

Reinforcement of the Army (YAY! Any low-level warrior I want)

Fusion Sword Murasame Blade (Perfect for a warrior)

Premature Burial (Do I want to pay 800 for my Jinzo.  Hell yeah)

United We Stand (Perfect for any monster)

Card Destruction (You don’t know how many friggin’ times I’ve faced an Exodia deck)

Traps: 6

Call of the Haunted (Perfect chain when Jinzo is in the graveyard)

Ceasefire (ANOTHER card that stops flip effects)

Seven Tools of the Bandit (Helps when I don’t have Jinzo yet)

Dust Tornado (Makes me wish I had Imperial Order)

Mirror Wall (Makes me wish I had Mirror Force.  But it’s still fine)

Magic Cylinder (Stop hitting yourself)

Side Deck: None

Fusion Deck: None

Total Cards: 40

This happened a couple weeks ago, but it was so funny that I thought I’d include it anyway.  Well when I got there, there was practically no one there.  There was one kid there who I faced for fun before the tournament started.  WOW that kid was a dumb ass.  He said that he had competed in a lot of tournaments before and had won a lot.  Wherever he went they never enforced the correct rules.  Some of these were, “I use Dust Tornado to stop your Raigeki, there’s nothing that says I can’t switch my spellbinding circle from your Goblins to your Buster Blader, after you destroy Invader of the Throne I get my monster back, I can discard any amount of cards and draw new ones whenever I want.”  I could keep going on but that would take up too much time.  I got him in a Yata-Lock and that shut him up.

All right, now about the actual tournament.  There were six people there, myself, my friend, Bryan, the guy about twice my age, Paul, and some other kids, Nick, Joe, and I forget the other kids name so I’m going to call him Bob.  The tournament was round-robin style (when everyone faces everyone and the most wins, wins).

1st match – Me vs. Paul (Light deck)

Paul actually had a choice between using his Light or Dragon deck before the tourney started.  I think he knew that I had Buster Blader so he chose his Light deck.

1st duel – Paul was one the one person I expected a decent battle from and I did get one.  Anyway, I started and I played Hayabusa in attack and Magic Cylinder down.  His turn he played two cards face down and Hysteric Fairy in attack but didn’t attack.  Next turn I drew Jinzo, summoned it, and attacked his fairy.  His turn he played a monster in defense.  My turn, I CoH-ed it and summoned Dark Ruler.  His turn he played another monster in defense.  My turn I PB-ed my Hayabusa and attacked an Unhappy Maiden.  That ended my turn.  He then played another Hysteric Fairy but used United We Stand on it.  Oh, I forgot to mention I had played MST down a couple turns ago.  He attacked my Jinzo and I MST-ed his UWS so he was dead.

2nd duel – He didn’t get any monsters on his first turn so it put him at a disadvantage.  All I got though was my Gemini so it was kind bad for me too.  He placed a monster in defense and I X-iled it.  I don’t remember most of it but I know that at one point he had 1600 life points left, he CoH-ed my only monster on the field at the moment to summon Airknight Parshath (I think that’s how you spell it) but when he attacked I Magic Cylindered it for the game.

2nd match – Me vs. Nick (A fiend deck with no Dark Ruler and it has an Injection)

Before the match I traded an Opticlops for a Bottomless Trap Hole.  You’re not supposed to add or remove cards into or from your deck but in my own defense, I didn’t use the BTH for the tourney.  He used the Opticlops but the judge didn’t know and I didn’t feel like telling him.  Not like it made a difference because he never drew it against me anyway and the BTH he traded was in his deck so that might have saved me.

1st duel – I started with Gearfried and he played La Jinn so it was an equal match at the beginning.  I was able to bring out Dark Ruler and dominated the field.  Before the duel was over I constantly heard, “I want that.” and, “What do you want for that?”  Despite the annoyances, I brought out some other monsters and negated his flip effects with Dark Ruler.

2nd duel – I got Freed out early and was able to add X-iled to my hand.  He destroyed Freed somehow, I forget.  Then there was an awkward pause after we both used Card Destruction where the only monster I had was a MoF and he had none.  He played a strong fiend monster but I Magic Cylindered his attack.  I used MoF to bring back Harpie’s Feather Duster and use it on his four face down cards.  Then I CotH-ed Freed and summoned Yata to get him in a lock and win.

Even though he had an Injection (it is appropriate in a fiend deck when you think about it [sarcasm]) he was never able to use it because the one time he had it I Card Destructioned it along with Monster Reborn.

3rd match – Me vs. Bob (Exodia deck)

1st duel – He got lucky and on his second turn he used Painful Choice to get rid of three of his Exodia pieces and then used Back-Up Soldier to bring them back for the win  (Now you know WHY I HATE EXODIA DECKS!!!).

2nd duel – this went much better.  I used Card Destruction near the beginning but he Solemn Judgmented it so he was at 4000 life points.  This is what screwed him because I used Invader of the Throne on his Sangan to prevent him from getting anymore Exodia pieces for a while.  I used Celtic Guardian to destroy IotT and later used HFD to destroy his face down cards.  I got Fiend Megacyber on the field and attacked his life points for the win.  CG and Sangan the first time – 1050 and Megacyber and Sangan the second time – 3200 and since already had only 4000 life points from SJ that was game.

3rd duel – He barely got monsters and whatever he got I used Sasuke Samurai to destroy.  I got Gearfried on the field but he used Gravity Bind to stop him.  I had to constantly attack him with the Samurai and Princess of Tsurugi.  I tried to Card Destruction again but he used Solemn Judgment on it again.  That screwed him because that 1400 damage each turn added up fast for the game.

BREAK TIME – This is when the last two people I had to face, Bryan and Joe, were facing each other so I had to wait until they were done.  In the mean time I made a nice profit.  There was some kid that knew I had all five pieces of the Destiny Board and he wanted to buy them.  I heard that the board itself was $30 and I through L was only about a dollar.  Ironically, the kid had exactly $34 on him so I accepted his offer (Like I was ever going to use the Destiny Board anyway).  So while waiting for Bryan’s match to finish, I decided to watch.  Bryan did beat him but he never noticed that he had Marie the Fallen One, Forgiving Maiden, and Polymerization on the field or in his hand.

4th match – Me vs. Bryan (Yet another light deck)

Now I found out Bryan just started playing some weeks ago but he was still a good duelist.  I had sold him some light cards before the tourney such as Wingweaver, Moisture Creature, Soul of Purity and Light, Hysteric Fairies, etc.

1st duel – This was pretty easy because I lucked out.  I played Gearfried in attack and Mirror Wall down.  He had this smile on his face that he knew he had a good hand.  He played three cards face down and I figured they must have been things such as Trap Hole.  It didn’t matter because I sacrificed Gearfried and before I placed the monster down I knew he was ready to activate Trap Hole so I summoned JINZO!  That pretty much screwed his plans.  There were only four turns left after that.  1st – I attacked with Jinzo – 5600 lps remain.  2nd – He played a defense monster. I used Raigeki and attacked again – 3200 lps remain.  3rd – He played another defense monster and I used NoC and attacked with Jinzo again – 800 lps remain.  4th he had no monsters and no magic cards to play so that was game.

2nd duel – I got an attack or two with Gearfried before he got a monster.  He used CoH on Gearfried and summoned his Hysteric Fairy and attacked me with both but I cut both of their attack powers in half with Mirror Wall.  I used Dark Hole summoned Celtic Guardian and equipped it with FSMB to bring him to 2200 attack and he couldn’t use his MST on it.  I special summoned The Rock Spirit and used UWS but he was able to MST that.  He played Soul of Purity and Light but my monsters either equaled or surpassed his attack power.  I got the Dark Ruler on the field and won the duel.

5th match – What 5th match?

I was supposed to play Joe but for some reason he had lost twice so there was no way he could have won the tournament.  So in the end I guess I won the tournament…or something.

I came in first and got one of each pack except for MRL and PSV.  These are the rare cards I got.  LOB – Flower Wolf, MRD – White Magical Hat, PGD – Winged Sage Falcos, LOD – Drop Off, LON – GEMINI ELF.  So the real triumph of the tourney was the LON pack, but I also got a good common warrior card in the PGD pack.  It’s called the Dark Scorpion Burglars and for those of you who don’t know this is the effect.  When this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points, your opponent selects 1 Magic Card from his/her Deck and sends it to the Graveyard. The Deck is then shuffled. ATK/1000 DEF/1000.  I also used 15 of the 34 dollars to buy a Marauding Captain.  I also bought a PGD and a LOD pack from the winner of the beginner tourney and saved 49 cents.  Unfortunately I only got Wandering Mummy and The A. Forces.  I also traded an extra Soul Exchange, Book of Moon, and Shallow Grave to Bryan for the Summoned Skull he got today from the one MRD pack he bought (damn he’s lucky).  I know that the Skull isn’t a warrior but he’s cool and he could be used for trade material later.  I replaced Yata for Marauding and The Rock Spirit for the Burglars.  Now for Props and Slops.

Props

-Winning the tournament

-Getting Gemini Elf and the Dark Scorpion Burglars in a pack

-Buying Marauding Captain

-Trading for Summoned Skull

-Knowing that my friend is getting better

-Knowing that Scuba (He was the one who originally set up the tournaments but he got fired because he is an idiot.  “Oh there are four people in the advanced group so we’d better make it a double elimination tournament.”  I could keep going on but I wouldn’t have enough time, energy, or patience to finish.) was fired and replaced with someone named Joe (Not the one that I didn’t face.  A different one) who actually knew what he was doing.

-Mark didn’t play in the tournament (He’s another kid with an Exodia deck but it is much harder to beat)

-Bryan for trading me Jinzo in the last tourney

-My mom for brining me and my dad for picking me up

Slops

-…I don’t think there were any!  We don’t have thieves, I got good cards from my packs, and my warrior deck is closer to completion.
