My Name: Andy J.W

Location of Tournament: Dream Wizards Games

Location of Tournament Site: Bethesda, Maryland

Date of Tournament: Sunday, October 19, 2003

Number of Participants: 42

Hello again, everyone.  I haven’t been to a tourney in a while, so it was refreshing to go back to some more competitive play… where everyone but you has Magician’s Force cards… Anyway, this time I was playing with my new and admittedly cliché control deck:

-Spirit Reaper x2 (Defends and discards- fits the bill perfectly)

-White Magical Hat x2 (good in general- fits under both Messenger and Bind)

-Don Zaloog x2 (This one’s pretty self-explanitory)

-Yata-Garasu x1 (See above)

-Jinzo x1 (See “Don Zaloog”)

-Mystical Knight of Jackal x1 (Once a Yata/Jackal deck, but 2 Jackal was too much)

-Exiled Force x1 (just a sub ‘till I can land a Tribe-Infecting Virus)

-Sangan x1 (Gets nearly anything in this deck)

-Witch of the Black Forest x1 (Same, except she can get Jackal, too)

-Mystic Tomato x1 (thins deck, gets out good monsters- sounds good to me)

-Cyber Jar x1 (the original table turner- adds a twist of excitement to the game, too)

-Fiber Jar x1 (No matter what, you always need a reset button)

-Mirror Force x1

-Magic Cylinder x1

-Call of the Haunted x1

-Torrential Tribute x1

-Imperial Order x1 (everything that doesn’t have an explanation shouldn’t need one)

-Drop Off x3 (Lock’s best friend- play it and love it)

-Mystical Space Typhoon x3 (Lack of control sucks- I dare you to tell me I’m wrong)

-Confiscation x1 (Duh)

-Delinquent Duo x1 (Duh again)

-The Forceful Sentry x1 (Duh, but you don’t have to pay 1000 life points)

-Mirage of Nightmares x1 (Drawing, works with 3 MST)

-United We Stand x1 (Why NOT?)

-Snatch Steal x1 (take their monster for as long as you need it, and at a small cost)

-Harpie's Featherduster x1 (MST, Advanced)

-Monster Reborn x1 (Speaks for itself)

-Change of Heart x1 (See above)

-Swords of Revealing Light x1 (Because you can’t control everything…)

-Pot of Greed x1 (card advantage is important… especially here)

-Graceful Charity x1 (See above)

-Raigeki x1 (If I need to explain this one, see to it that someone slaps you)

-Messenger of Peace x1 (protects my monsters while letting most of them attack)

Total Cards: 40

In case you haven’t read any of my previous reports, Dream Wizards is single elimination, $6.30 entry fee, prizes are 3 packs (PGD until further notice) for the winner, 2 for the other finalist, and 1 for everyone else, and anything not made by Upper Deck is banned.  Anyway, here was my Sunday:

ROUND 1: Andy v. John

Duel 1:

ANDY: 8000-7000

JOHN: 8000-7000-6000-2600-0

Winner: Me

In a word, “obliteration.”  All I took was 1000 from my own Delinquent Duo (that’s a shutout in my book, but not everyone would say that), and I got him on the ropes early.  I got out White Magical Hat and started discarding all of his best cards (a few well-timed Drop Off’s helped with this, too).  Then, when he got the Magician of Faith he was lusting after, I stole it with change of heart, used it myself, and sacrificed it for Jinzo.  It pretty much went downhill for him from there.

Duel 2:

ANDY: 8000-7200

JOHN: 8000-6600-2800-300-0

Winner: Me

Nearly identical to the first game, really- I started discarding like a fiend with my Don Zaloog, then I got out Jinzo again by taking one of his monsters (I didn’t get so lucky as to steal a Magician of Faith, though).  At some point before that, though, he used some common from Magician’s Force called “Secret Barrel” to hit me for 800.  I think it does 200 to your opponent for every card on their field and in their hand, but don’t quote me on that.  Bottom line, I took 800, and not long after my Jinzo and Witch of the Black Forest hit the field, he hit the showers.

ROUND 2: Andy J.W (Me) v. Andy (him)

Duel 1:

ANDY J.W (me): 8000

ANDY (him): 8000-7200-2100-0

Jackal won me this game, but not because of its effect.  I did some overhead by attacking his Gemini Elf with Jackal, but I didn’t put it back on top of his deck.  On my next move, I summoned Don Zaloog and cleared the way for both of them to lay siege to his life points, bringing him down to 2100.  He couldn’t do anything but throw something in defense mode, so on my next turn, I summoned White Magical Hat, attacked the monster with Jackal, and I attacked directly with Don and the Hat for the win.

Duel 2:

ANDY J.W (me): 8000

ANDY (him): 8000-5800-1700-0

Winner: Me

First chance I had to attack, I laid Don Zaloog down with United we stand and smacked him directly for 2200 and a discarded Raigeki (“No!” he cries).  After that, I played Don and Witch and hit him directly again (don’t quite remember how I did that, though…).  Next turn, he couldn’t touch me, then I crushed his monster with something I summoned, then I attacked with Don for the win.

ROUND 3: Andy v. Paul

Duel 1:

ANDY: 8000-7000-5900-3400-2000

PAUL: 8000-7900-7100-5800-3500-4500-0

Winner: Me

Now, if there was one person I had a challenge playing, it was Paul.  My memory of this game is pretty foggy, though.  All I wrote down was that we swapped blows for a while, and that late game, I used Snatch Steal to take his Mystic Tomato and hit him directly with it and my Jinzo for the win.

Duel 2:

ANDY: 8000-5700-4700-3800-0

PAUL: 8000-6600-6300-5300-2900-900-300

Winner: Paul

This duel was the embodiment of the phrase “close game.”  He hit me directly with a goblin, but I got rid of it and hit him directly with Don Zaloog.  I then hit him with Spirit reaper, White Magical Hat, and Jinzo.  He played Injection Fairy Lily, though, and killed Jinzo, dishing Paul 2000 and me 1000.  Over the next few turns, he took 600 overhead somehow, but I took more, and that killed me.

Duel 3:

ANDY: 8000-6700-4400-1000-400-0

PAUL: 8000-7200-7100-5100-2700-1700

Winner: Paul

First, I got hit with a Spear Dragon while my Sangan was in defense, dropping my score by 1300.  Then, I got rid of it, but he got it back with Premature Burial.  He also Played Goblin Attack force, and for some reason, I only took direct damage from that.  Then, later, He hit me directly with a pumped-up Lily.  Somehow, I got in a direct hit with Jinzo, then after that at some point I took 600 more from some other overhead.  I got in one last direct shot with a White Magical Hat before he beat me, but I still lost.

All in all, it was good.  I didn’t make too many trades, but I did do a crappy-condition Exodia piece and a rare Magician of Faith for a Torrential Tribute.  I also traded Painful choice for the new “Spell Shield Type-8.”  But other than that… I didn’t make too many trades because people were too pressed over keeping their Magician’s Force cards.  Anyway, I got Barrel Behind the Door in my consolation pack (My favorite…!) No props and slops I can really think of- just Props to people I played who were good sports, and Slops to Dream Wizards for not having either MFC or TP4.  Comments?  Supported ones are welcomed by duelistemporerandy@hotmail.com.  Thanks for reading!
