Deck Name: Lord of the Light

My Name: Andy J.W

Date of Tournament: Sunday, October 26, 2003

Location of Tournament: Dream Wizards Games, Bethesda, MD

Number of Participants: 48

Hey, everyone, I’m back again.  Today was another tournament (this time I actually had some Magician’s Force- hurrah!)  Anyway, today I was testing a deck that’s been a few weeks in the making (and still needs the Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon combo).  It’s my Light deck, and here’s the breakdown:

-Thunder Nyan-Nyan x3 (it’s a 1900, it’s easy beyond belief to get, and works well)

-Maha Vailo x3 (The core of this deck- you’ll see why)

-White Magical Hat x3 (a good discarder that gets under Gravity Bind)

-Soul of Purity and Light x1 (the Necrofear of Light decks, but doubles clog your hand)

-Airknight Parshath x1 (One of my all-time favorites, particularly good here)

-Jinzo x1

-Exiled Force x1 (I swapped it out for Tribe-Infecting Virus after the Tournament)

-Witch of the Black Forest x1

-Cyber Jar x1

-Fiber Jar x1

-Mirror Force x1

-Magic Cylinder x1

-Torrential Tribute x1

-Imperial Order x1

-Ring of Destruction x1

-Call of the Haunted x1

-Mystical Space Typhoon x3 (taking 6050 from a Cylinder-ed Maha Vailo is no fun- MST insures that this doesn’t happen.)

-Axe of Despair x2 (good power-ups are few and far between, so take what you can get)

-United We Stand x1

-Mage Power x1

-Luminous Spark x1 (powers up nearly everything in this deck, but usually not your opponents)

-Snatch Steal x1

-Change of Heart x1

-Premature Burial x1 (I’m not too fond of it, myself, but it gets a spot in this deck for bringing back Maha Vailo as a 2050)

-Monster Reborn x1

-Pot of Greed x1

-Graceful Charity x1

-Swords of Revealing Light x1

-Raigeki x1

-Harpie’s Featherduster x1

-Fairy Meteor Crush x1 (Vailo becomes a 2050 Crusher; works well with Jinzo, too)

Total Cards: 40

Anyway, today I played some interesting (and pretty fun) games.  I also traded a boatload of cards to get my hands on some Dark Magician-Based cards for my new Black (Dark) Paladin Deck.  I’ll be using that one next week.  In the meantime…

ROUND 1: ANDY V. STEPHEN

Duel 1:

ANDY: 8000-7200

STEPHEN: 8000-3850-300-0

Winner: Me

This one started off kinda’ slow, which got annoying.  I started with Thunder Nyan-Nyan and killed his monster (it was really weird- I don’t remember what it was, though).  Then, he set stuff (2 M/T and a monster), and I summoned White Magical Hat.  I attacked what turned out to be a Penguin Soldier.  Both monsters go back to my hand, Main Phase 2, play Swords of Revealing Light.  A few more turns pass, and I manage to build up an attack force of White Magical Hat, Thunder Nyan Nyan, and Maha Vailo.  I decided not to attack during this period of time because I had yet to realize that this guy wasn’t too experienced.  Well, after a while, I pulled United We Stand, and laid it down on Maha Vailo, killing his 2 monsters with my other attackers.  I then sicked Maha Vailo on him for 4150, taking more than half his Life Points.  I don’t remember much else, but at the end, I played Premature Burial (the only damage I took all game) on Maha Vailo for the final blow.

Duel 2:

ANDY: 8000-7200

STEPHEN: 8000-7500-6900-4750-300-0

Winner: Me

Very similar to the first duel, really, down to the damage I took and start-up time.  Early plays consisted of a second-turn Jinzo with Fairy Meteor Crush, and what do I hit?  A 1900-DEF Gravekeeper’s Guard, which puts Jinzo right back in my hand.  Main Phase 2, play Swords (that should look familiar, too).  Long story short, I just teamed up Jinzo and Maha Vailo with some power-ups to ultimately crush him.

ROUND 2: ANDY v. NICKY

I would first like to say that I almost got a Bye this round, but the pairing system screwed up, so I had to play this kid after all.

Duel 1:

ANDY: 8000

NICKY: 8000-4850-3300-250-1450-0

Winner: Me

Note that this duel was a shutout in my favor, first of all.  I got out a Maha Vailo with Axe and Mage Power pretty early in the game, and got out Jinzo soon after.  I kept killing his monsters (which weren’t that great- he had a Spear Dragon, but that was about the best it got).  The 1200 he gained was from the Kisetei that my Jinzo ran over.  But, the 1200 didn’t save him, obviously, as he lost the very next turn from my powered-up onslaught.

Duel 2

ANDY: 8000

NICKY: 8000-6150-5150-4250-2350-800-0

Winner: Me

Another shutout- hurrah!  This game was hillarious. He went first, set Kisetei, which I Change-of-Heart’ed, also playing Maha Vailo, and attacking with both.  About a turn or two later (this is where it gets funny), he played exchange- I got his Tyrant Dragon and he took my Mirror Force.  I wasn’t too worried, though.  Anyway, I waited a turn, and summoned Tyrant, holding off my attack.  He couldn’t come up with a monster, so I changed Tyrant to defense, summoned Exiled Force, and attacked directly.  He wouldn’t dare blow that Mirror Force on such a wimpy monster, so now he would face the consequence of death by crappy monsters…!  Next, he set something, but I offered up Exiled Force to kill it.  I then summoned Cyber Jar (I told you- death by crappy monsters!) and attacked him directly.  His turn, he passes, then I played Axe on Cyber Jar, attacking directly.  He set something, I picked a Maha Vailo, killed his monster with the Jar, then hit him directly with Vailo.  On his next turn, he summoned his Spear Dragon, tried to attack my Vailo, but my Cylinder won me the game.  Side Note: Tyrant was in face-up Defense the whole time.

I was feeling pretty good- 2 rounds under my belt, making trades to spruce up my Black Paladin deck, and best of all, my 3 friends were all still in with me.  Next round was 12 people left- between the Octi- and Quarter- finals.

ROUND 3: ANDY v. AN

Duel 1:

ANDY: 8000-6000-2600-3600-500-0

AN: 8000-9000-6300-7300-5300

Winner: An

Before I report this one, I wanna’ say 2 things: One, this match was pretty cool; a Battle of the Elements- Light against Earth.  Second, I now wish to burn all cards named “Nimble Momonga.”  This guy had 3 and got them both games.  I somehow got hit directly by his 2 monsters after killing the first one with my Thunder Nyan-Nyan. I couldn’t come up with a monster next turn, so he played Giant Rat and hit me again.  At about this time I (somehow) pulled of a Soul of Purity and Light with, like, Axe or something, and ground his Giant Rat (he just got another one, though).  I tried hitting him, and I did alright, considering his LP advantage.  He later played Injection Fairy Lily, attacked, pumped, and left me at 500.  I couldn’t do anything, so next turn he pummeled me.

Duel 2:

ANDY: 8000-4000-1000-400-0

AN: 8000-9000-8700-9700-10700

Winner: An

Question- if you take damage during a duel, but win with more Life Points than you started with, is it still a shutout?  Well, I have no idea- all I know is that his Hayabusa Knight, Nimble Momongas, Gaia Power and United We Stand crushed me with little difficulty.  I tried to fight back- honest, I did- but, fat lot of good it did me.  He lost a total of 300 life points, and that was from bare overhead.  I really don’t feel like going into the details- do I even need to?

Oh, well- you can’t win ‘em all.  I was actually quite impressed with how well my new deck did.  I got my prize pack (a crappy pack of Pharaonic Guardian), and made some more trades, including getting some XYZ cards, which I gave to my friend to help with his XYZ deck.  Anyway, now for some props and slops:

PROPS:

-To my friend PJ’s Dad for giving me, PJ, and our other friend Kendell a ride to the tourney.

-To Toys R Us for selling me an MFC packs with a Black (or “Dark,” if you prefer) Paladin in it

-To the people who traded me cards for my Black paladin Deck

-To the guy I traded Last Turn for my 3rd Injection Fairy Lily

-To the guy I traded 2 Barrel Behind the Door for Diffusion Wave-Motion

-To the people I played for being fun opponents

-To An for being a challenge and complimenting my deck

-To that kid I don’t even know for following me around and cheering me on

-To Pojo’s for posting this report

-To you for reading it

SLOPS:

-To Dream Wizards for charging $6.30 admission, not having TP4 or MFC packs for consolation prizes, and giving me crap in what few packs they did give away

-To my dad for coming too early and forcing Kendell to forfeit the match just so we could get out of there

-To PJ for driving up the price of the Breaker The Magical Warrior I traded some kid for

-To Pyramid Turtle for existing

Well, thanks for reading my report!  If you wanna’ contact me with (reason-supported) comments, e-mail ‘em to duelistemporerandy@hotmail.com.  I can’t guarantee that I’ll reply to your messages immediately, but I’ll try my best.  Thanks again!
