E V O L U T I O N : Courageous AKA: Johnathan/Nate 60 Card Deck (located inside Eastridge Mall) San Jose, California November 9th, 2003 16 Person Tournament, 4 Rounds Unique Point System Used, In Computer Generated Pair Ups/Rankings 3 Points Per Win, Advantage Given If Round is Won 2-0 Entry: $3 Prize: First $20 Credit, Second $10 Credit Deck: 1 Yata-Garasu 1 Jinzo 1 Airknight 1 Ha Des 1 Magical Scientist 3 Hungry Burger 3 Mr Volcano 3 Karate Man 2 Sonic Duck 3 Swordsman of Lanstar 1 Left Arm Of The Forbidden One 3 Kuriboh 2 Aitsu 2 Koitsu 1 Pot Of Greed 1 Graceful 1 Mirage of Nightmare 3 Mystical Space Typhoon 1 Raigeki 1 Dark Hole 2 Second Coin Toss 1 Ring Of Destruction 1 Magic Cylinder 1 Mirror Force In my second week back in the Yu-Gi-Oh! scene, I decided to check out 60 Card Deck, located in the San Jose Eastridge Mall, venue of the mall tour last week. I wanted to go because I heard they did box tourneys every weekend but turns out its on Saturdays. I arrive right as they did last calls for their Sunday tourney and abruptly entered. First thing I noticed when I looked around was there was no custom picture card sleeves around. Must be more of a East Bay/Oakland trend. No one recognized the pics of Varon from my sleeves either. (New character, Seal Of the Oracle Series Of YGO, look it up) Round One : Courageous of Evolution VS Giovanni Giovanni also played Hand Disruption. We both put up good fights. Match 1: Courageous : 8000 > 5200 > 1800 > 0 Giovanni : 8000 > 6000 We fired back and forth with the discard magic. Early he cleared by field and hit me with a pumped Lily attack. I set a tomato next turn, he played change of heart and made this one a quick match. Match 2: Courageous : 8000 > 7000 > 6000 > 4700 > 3900 > 3100 Giovanni : 8000 > 7700 > 4100 > 900 > 0 I started off this one nicely with using Delinquent, Confiscation, and Forceful after playing a Pot. I set a Reaper then his turn he played set one monster too. I played crossout then that began his road to topdecking. I brought out Airknight and Tomato then it was the beginning of the end. He fought back a little bit taking a bits off my life with a Ring. But I took it in the end. Match 3: Courageous : 8000 > 6400 > 4200 > 2800 > 1800 > 2300 > 3800 Giovanni : 8000 > 7700 > 4100 > 900 > 0 This one was classic top deck excitement. Classic handless moves on both parts leading into top decking. My reaper saved me for awhile then I take the win. Round 2 : Courageous VS Ricardo Match 1: Courageous : 8000 > 7800 Locked Ricardo : 8000 > 7200 He used some discard magic on me early. Leaving me with nothing but a Jinzo in my hand. I set a reaper. It got discarded. My turn got dropped off and he hit me with Yata. Match 2: Courageous : 8000 > 6100 > 5300 > 3100 > 1500 Ricardo : 8000 > 5300 > 3100 > 2800 > 900 > 0 I got him with some good discards while we went back and forth with the attacks. I got him with drop offs and time seal to delay him. I got Airknight out and then Jinzo the turn after for the win. Match 3: Courageous : 8000 > 7000 > 6500 > 4600 > 3200 Ricardo : 8000 > 6600 > 5200 > 2150 > 0 I played a early confiscation to get rid of his Yata. We went back and forth with some tomatoes and reapers. I nailed him with some spears along the way. I played Mirage and after that hand it was over. Mirage gave me Pot and Graceful, and I already had mst down. Only monster he had was his sinister. I tossed out and reborned my Jinzo, Prematured Airknight, hit him down to 2150, then he top decked heavy and it was game. Round 3 : Courageous VS Hot Stuff Man this guy had been using my penny for coinflips and dubbed it his "lucky" penny. Only fitting that we duel. He was good and pretty hilarious. Later i found out he was calling the store owner Uncle! Oh well, its all good. Match 1: Courageous : 8000 > 6600 > 5800 > 3900 > 4900 > 3900 > 3700 > 0 Hot Stuff : 8000 > 6600 > 5600 > 2300 We started off with a coinflip battle. My last two rounds, I lost the coinflip, lost the first match, and took the rest. He wanted to end my streak and he did. Classic handless battle with him coming out on top after snatching my Jinzo. Match 2: Courageous : 8000 > 7000 > 5300 > 4600 > 2900 > 1200 > 0 Hot Stuff : 8000 > 7000 > 6900 This one was all in his favor. I thought I had a nice start with a Confiscation to his Yata. But looks like Hot Stuff was just too hot to handle. Round 4 : Courageous VS "OJ" When the calls for the final round came around, he didnt show up at first. So i was hoping to get a free advance. He shows up after a couple mins and we start. With the way the points were, this basically decides who gets second place. Match 1: Courageous : 8000 > 7000 > 5600 > 4200 > 2300 > 0 OJ : 8000 > 6100 > 5300 > 3900 > 4900 > 4400 Back to tradition where I lost the coinflip and first round then take the sweep. Midmatch I had to resort to snatching his Jinzo then i couldnt recover after that. Match 2: Courageous : 8000 > 6600 > 5200 > 4900 > 3200 > 1800 OJ : 8000 > 7200 > 5600 > 4600 > 3500 > 2700 > 1300 This match was niiiice. Killer tactics on both sides. We were both topdecking pretty early. The end was when I had Airknight And Don on the field. Airknights effect got me a dropoff and I dropped off his mirror force for the win. Match 3: Courageous : 8000 > 7200 OJ : 8000 > 6900 > 4850 > 2150 > 0 This one was DIRTY. He played Pot, Graceful in his early hand. He hit forceful on my Tomato. I had my eye on his Jinzo he tossed out since the beginning. I had raigeki and reborn in my hand waiting to steal his Jinzo and clear the field. I thought he had a call of the haunted down so i didnt wanna waste my Reborn incase he did. After a couple turns I drew my own Jinzo and snatch. He played defensively and on my turn I snatched one of his monsters and brought out my Jinzo. Then i reborned his Jinzo. The triggered the gasps/ooooohs from the crowd and shouts of "THATS DIRTY!" His turn he set a tomato. My turn i didnt even bother to draw. I turned my only card around ; Raigeki, then it was game. Post Tourney Results: First Place ($20 Credit) : Hot Stuff Second Place ($10 Credit) : Courageous The last win gave me enough points to be ranked as second place. I really like the way the tourney system works because its very innovative. 60 Card Deck is a great place to play ; offering cheaper entry and better prizes than other places. Only problem is that its about a 40 min drive. Oh well, my first time here at 60 Card Deck and second place. Not bad, not bad at all. I'll definately be back. I got 2 MFC Boosters and a Deck Box with the credit because there wasnt any singles I wanted. Pulled a yz cannon and traded to some kid for another drop off. Good stuff. Recognition -60 Card Deck, Store Owner, Aldwin, nice guy, great place -60 Card Deck Regulars, from the people I played, everyone is really good -Jeff, Evolution's Phoenix, for watching over the games, handling trades, holding my backpack and everything -Gas prices, for going down -The rain, for stopping Card of the Day Airknight Parshath. Somehow brought it out a lot and gave me killer draws. Play of the Day Having two Jinzos out on the field. Crowd reaction was crazy because we were the last duel going on and most people were watching.
