1st Round: Me vs. Alex(50ish card Mixed Deck)
This kid was new to our tournaments, so I had no clue whether he was good or bad. My opponent started with 2 cards face down and a monster in defense mode. I summoned a La Ginn and set Magic Cylinder. La Ginn attacked and it was a Harpie’s Brother. He used Change of Heart on La Ginn and attacked directly, activating Magic Cylinder. He didn’t summon a monster of his own. I summoned more monsters over the next two turns, 7 Colored Fish, La Ginn, and Bazoo dropped his life points dropped his life points down to 100. On his turn he activated Gravity Bind, from his hand!!! I told him you must set a trap before it could be activated, so he set it face down. Then when I attacked his life points directly, he didn’t activate it!!! I told him he could activate Gravity Bind(I wanted to give him a little confidence) so he did. He still didn’t summon any monsters over the next two turns! So on my second turn(after Gravity Bind) I drew Jinzo, summoned it, attacked LP and game over! On to the second round.

2nd Round: Me vs. Eric(Mixed 50ish card Harpie Deck)
I didn’t know this man either, he was also new to the tournament. I had seen him duel another rookie and he used some interesting cards (Amazon Archer and such), but he could have won about 8 times before he did win. Well, on turn one he summoned Harpie Lady and used two Elegant Egotists to bring out two Harpie’s Sisters. I summoned Harpie’s brother in attack mode, and laid down a Mirror Force. He fell into the trap and attacked with the Harpie Sisters, which ran into Mirror Force. But on Main Phase 2 he played Return of the Doomed, bringing back Harpie’s Sisters. I was able to Raigeki and summon Jinzo, and then attacked directly, but before I could he used Offerings to the Doomed to destroy it. He then couldn’t draw any monsters over the next 5 turns, which was more than enough time for me to win. After the duel, he complained that he wasn’t drawing anything, when he looked at his next 11 cards and they were all Magic and Traps. But, when looking at his deck later, he had 57 cards and only 11 were Level 4 and less monsters, that’s why you lost Eric!

3rd Round: Me vs. Steve(Exodia/Beatdown Deck)
Yes, you read it correctly, two words that never go with each other: Exodia and Beatdown. I brought out the side deck which was my biggest mistake, I put in the two Soul Releases, Card Destruction, and Confiscation. I took out Heavy Storm, Mystical Space Typhoon, and two Fissures. The first two I got rid of hurt. I drew Soul Release on turn one, now to get a piece of Exodia to the graveyard, he doesn’t have Miracle Dig, by the way. He set 3 cards face down and a monster in defense mode. I summoned a 7 Colored and attacked, Mirror Force. He simply set another monster, I summoned Harpie’s Brother and attacked Sangan. The card I was waiting for. He obviously searched his deck for a piece of Exodia. Next turn, CARD DESTRUCTION! This was my mistake of the game. I had six cards in my hand, he had four. I played it and he lost his Exodia Piece. Then I released Exodia’s soul. Now to beat the beatdown half. I just couldn’t get serious damage to his life points. Too many traps and flip effects! When I had ten cards left and he had eleven, he activated Umi and Tornado Wall, the finishing blow. I had already used my one Mystical Space Typhoon and Jinzo was in my grave. Twice I tried to get it back via Monster Reborn and Premature Burial, but he used Solemn Judgment and Magic Jammer. I lost due to running out of cards.

Steve won the tournament, beating the store owner for the $24. He won with the beatdown half once again.
